Andy P was a central figure to this forum and today marks 5 years since his passing, its ironic that the World Cup starts today. I had the pleasure of getting to Andy P well by doing the MFC Podcast with him and Andy Ross, he always found positives even during sone shit times. I would love to hear Andy P thoughts on the season just passed and his views on Jens and Co and I guarantee he would be on his way to America. 5 years passed so quick and I still think of him often. Gone but he will always be part of my thoughts.25 points

Heard from an Arbroath fan in Antalya airport last night that we're apparently in discussions with Dunfermline over Neil Lennon...4 points

I remember we beat AGF Aarhus 1-0 in a pre-season friendly before the 1974/75 season. It was part of a 5-game pre-season tour in Germany and Denmark. We also beat St. Pauli, Hamburg and Aalborg.4 points

So suspended punishment of a reduction of 100 tickets for Celtic which lasts until 30th June 2027 and a £2500 fine. And the same fine for us with a suspended closure of Block E for the same timescale. And five of our fans and five Celtic fans referred to the SPFL Trusts pyrotechnics awareness course. So there you have it, a slap on the wrist for Celtic and us lumped in with them to dilute the blame. That’s not to say that ‘Block E’ are blameless and indeed they gave the authorities the open goal they needed to drag us into what happened, but this non punishment for the true culprits is as predictable as it is laughable.4 points

Can only echo the other comments relating to Andy, one of the good guys who's opinions on Motherwell and fitba in general were always worth listening to3 points

Yes, I think we all knew this would happen but I fear the conduct of the aggressive and unruly Celtic fans in particular will only get worse, further emboldened by the feeling they can act with virtual impunity. Also, they now have the sainted Martin confirmed in charge, who clearly does not want to upset the apple-cart by calling them out for their thuggish behaviour. What's it going to take for the "authorities" to grow a pair? Do we have to have a death or two from this kind of disorder before anything is done? I still feel absolutely disgusted about the events at FP last month in particular. Askou looked livid after the game and I'm sure he was glad to be getting out of Scotland given the level of corruption and intimidation he had witnessed during the season.3 points

And the Daily Record headline on this subject is “Motherwell and Hamilton Accies fined and reprimanded by SPFL amid pyro use and pitch invasions” and that is the main story of the article with the fact that Celtic were also involved and hit with similar sounding like a mere side story. We all saw what happened but that is how it is reported. Anyone who seriously doubts the influence and clout that Celtic have over football, the media and more in this country these days needs to wake up.2 points

IIRC the Ancell babes played Aarhus in a floodlight friendly around the time we were whacking Flamengo and Bahia but i can't remember the score.2 points

We had similar vids for JT and Watt recently, and I'm sure we'll get Ibi's highlights along to the Benny Hill theme soon enough.2 points

In answer to your question I played professional table tennis (recently retired) I had family in Rome so moved here as at that time was easier to get around continental Europe and to travel to SE Asia than being based in Scotland. All of your points are very valid. Udine is a beautiful city but can be very cold and wet in the Winter. Very different than being in Bologna for example. Next year is a big season for him - probably a make or break season in terms of pushing on at Udinese.2 points

Might as well be, based on tomorrows likely headlines of "Celtic target Elijah Just scores in the world cup!" Followed by 100 words of AI bollocks then, ...currently plays for Motherwell.1 point

You might be right Dave, i think if we had a target in mind and the deal suitable to all parties had been done etc then for me the club would have announced it, so there may well be issues. The Euro draw is in two days, we know nothing about any potential new players coming in or current players leaving, the competitive games start in just over a month from now, so i hope we will be ready in time.1 point

It will be a cold day in Hell before that ever happens Dave, the Government, police , football authorities and the ugly sisters have done feck all since football started over 150 years ago, and that approach wont change.1 point

A totally unsatisfactory, but unsurprising turn of events. I agree about the pyros, but am baffled as to how the 5 or more fans will be chosen for corrective training. Are they 5 unnamed culprits, or 5 of us chosen totally at random? The pitch invasions!! A scattergun approach to deflect blame away from Celtic. We are being fined the same amount per game as they are despite the massive disparity in budgets. If thats the case, why are Accies only being fined £1K per game. There's little attempt, to consider the number of pitch incursions (in Celtic's case 3 to our 1), the numbers of fans involved or their nature i.e. the invasion after the Hearts game. In terms of suspended punishments, I'd like to know how they define "significant pitch incursions". Also, no mention of Rangers fans invading the pitch at Ibrox. Totally unsatisfactory punishments which will only expose the authorities to all manner of allegations, not in the media of course. Are they now going to impose strict liability on sectarian activities at the games involving the gruesome twosome?1 point

Of course but that would indicate that they recognise Celtic and their fans as being more culpable than anyone else for this type of behaviour. But that is never going to happen in 2026 where Scottish football is run by Celtic, for Celtic.1 point

Maybe this can be a pattern, where the departing manager sets up a friendly with a team from their home country, and leaves us a nice parting gift in a Fadinger like signing.1 point

Given that's Ranger or Celtic on telly every week, I doubt that would change if those games were televised in June or July.1 point

Unfortunately, it's the Sky effect of obscene amounts of money thrown at the English game bolstered by huge revenue from its relentless advertising of gambling firms on TV. Even the trickle down from the English Premiership to the Championship puts us completely in the shade. In any case, I wouldn't think the likes of Doncaster would be capable of negotiating a deal which would be to the general advantage of Scottish clubs (i.e. beyond simply the OF) .1 point

The club manage to keep information in-house these days as opposed to the Burrows-era where everyone in Lanarkshire knew what the gossip at the club was. Appointing a new manager, specifically a new manager who fits the club, isnt always straightforward1 point

I share your frustration with this incident and it does highlight a wider problem in Scottish Football but you can't objectively frame this as a Celtic only problem. It is an OF problem and has been for decades. I agree that John Beaton was put in an impossible situation. I thought he refereed the game really well and was literally a couple of seconds away from being able to say job done. I thought the Maeda penalty call, he got right, the Slattery penalty call was also right. His onfield decision at the end was also spot on. I have no doubts that as he was walking to the monitor he would have either consciously or subconsciously been thinking about the personal implications for him and his family of overturning the decision. Unfortunately for him in this particular instance, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Had it been Rangers we were playing and Rangers were going for the title the outcome would have been EXACTLY the same. Both OF's clubs have used intimidation and the weight of numbers to get what they want for as long as I have been watching football. To frame it as a Celtic only problem (or a Rangers only problem) dilutes the argument. It is based on a predudice that favours one club or the other. They both use power and influence to get what they want and have both been very successful at getting what they want. It is why they keep doing it. Jim Traynor was hired as the Rangers communications man to use his knowledge of the press in Scotland to do exactly this, spin the narrative, put pressure on the authorities in Rangers favour. Rangers and Celtic are a collective. They are both a cancer on Scottish Football.1 point
