There's a player in Koutroumbis after his long injury he looked good in his limited game time in the last few games, so I'd be keeping him.

The same old managers being recycled from club to club, making a good living from failure year after year. I hope we don't do the same, another appointment like Wimmer would be good

Every Motherwell fan still alive has only ever seen us win at most 3 cups, league cup in 1950 and Scottish cup in 1952, & 1991, and for the vast majority it will only be 1. Is that record vastly different for any other club in the league apart from The ugly sisters and Aberdeen. In Scotland only the uglies win trophies on a regular basis, the rest of us have to wait for a win every 35 to 40 years etc for a special season. We've had 4 major finals since 1991, 2 league cup in 2005, 2018 and 2 Scottish cup in 2011 and 2018 and faced Celtic 3 tines and lost them all and Rangers once again losing. All this chat about other clubs winning cups etc is nonsense, it took Hibs over 100 years to win one ffs, St J had a special season won 2 trophies but never played either of the ugly sisters in doing so, as is the case for most of the other winners. So in my lifetime I've been at 5 cup finals supporting Motherwell, 4 of them defeats against the best teams in the country, and 1 win our special season in 1991. So for a club of our size our record in major trophies is is decent. And I suspect if a comparison was done against the other teams, uglies excepted re finals reached, games won etc we would be high on the list.

In theory you need cover for every position and a bit of extra leeway so as a minimum a squad size of at least 22 should be the starting point. The main problem we have is whoever takes over from MW has not seen us play, formed their opinion of do we currently have the players to play whatever style of football they prefer etc so recruitment is difficult. That's why we need a new manager in ASAP, and I suspect it will be a rebuild over the summer and winter transfer windows to get anywhere near a settled team.
-
For me that's a big worry as whoever comes in will have a very short window with no idea of what the team needs re new players and probably be listening to Clarkson, Foster or Obika for advice which gives me the fear.
-
Get Stevie G on the phone, he needs a job the uproar and seethe from the blue uglies would be worth it.
-
Of course he's had the new job lined up for maybe a few weeks and Motherwell obviously knew about it as we've agreed a compensation package. Nobody was going to announce it while we were still not safe from relegation were they. So why not ditch the conspiracy theories and accept he put his family 1st in a far more dignified and respectful way than Kettlewell did.
-
Aye the standard list of failed managers will be getting rolled out as we speak, Naismith, Docherty, Valakari, Kettlewell, Lennon, McGlynn, Ketsbaia, probably Ferguson will be on there as well. The optics for the club are not good but it was fun while it lasted, and I hope his family problems are resolved, all the best Michael.

Or maybe at the first Killie away trip to Fir park next season 🤔

No survey or debate required, VAR needs binned ASAP its ruining the game, especially the pound shop version we have in Scotland and the incompetent clowns running it.

2024/25 players vote for their players player of the year
Spiderpig replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
Hard to argue with, he hardly missed a game all season, scored a few goals, so a decent choice among a distinct lack of contenders tbh. -
The Usual list of failed managers that gets rolled out every time there is a vacancy. We bucked the trend a bit by bringing Wimmer in, more clubs should do the same.

As much as people think we had a shit season, I keep saying judge the season in May, not before, we achieved an 8th place finish 17 points clear of the relegation spot, 12 clear of the playoff and secured a 41st consecutive season in the top league, so for me that's a decent season. Room for improvement yes there is but all told given the constraints we had re injuries etc we had a decent season.
-
I think the 31st of May is the official contract end date for the players.
-
Another wrong prediction, Groundhog day indeed.
-
I think EK will do well Dave, a lot of money to be invested in them now they are an SPFL team apparently. They are also talking about a new stadium as the K park is not really suitable for bigger crowds.

Mika Biereth is the most prolific goal scorer in Europe at the moment, pity we never got to see him at Fir park longer, thanks to Charles Dunne https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c8d19961m33o

At the level we operate at re transfers, and given our limited finances those type of players are well outwith our budget. We have seen what can happen when when you take a punt on a player, Higdon, and Bair being two good examples, so why not Armstrong, 4 goals already from limited game time, why he could not get a game for Carlisle is irrelevant. Its what he has done already and potentially could do for Motherwell that's important.
-
A great cross in from the right, that's his natural and best position, right back / wingback due to our mega injury list he's been playing centre half which he is feckin hopeless at so for me he deserves a bit of praise.
-
Bored or just older and more moaning faced like a lot of us 😀
-
Carlisle are now National League so I don't think they would be too difficult to deal with, I hope we would at least make an enquiry.
-
We had 80% possession 2nd half according to MW, the killie keeper had at least 3 great saves , they were offering feck all with 10 men behind the ball all the time. We played some great football and eventually scored 3 great goals and got what our play deserved.. A clean sheet, 3 great goals, a pumping and some payback for killie and McInnes for their tactics, so all in all I would say it was a great performance.
-
After tonights performance I'd be offering Armstrong a contract, Big strong target man, puts himself about etc and has scored a few goals exactly what we have missed all season, him up top with Stamatelopoulos might be a good pairing.
-
Slattery for me he was excellent, great finish for his goal, special mention for Armstrong.
