  1. Its not a MUST win but we do NEED a win, and if we get the luck that deserted us last night we'll pump that lot easily. Here's hoping!

My vote went to O'Brien who was our most potent attacking threat last night, although Jenno had another good game I felt.
  3. Despite the unjust defeat I'm sure all Well fans present will have been impressed with the level of passion, commitment and spirit shown by the team last night. Tacticaly a lot better as we mixed it up a bit more, and for me did more than enough to warrant at least a point. Saunders was a bit exposed at times at right back, so maybe worth considering Hateley to play there against Accies with Las in mdfield. Forbes wasn't too hot either but he has missed a few games so he could be excused that. I'd definitely start Sutty with The Duke too as they linked up well last night. Gutted with the defeat as it was a complete travesty, but at least we seen a more 'sleeves rolled up' Motherwell last night which gives hope for the rest of the season. Bring on Accies, we are due to hammer someone.
  4. The fact that they are leaving it until as late as possible is a good thing.....I hope! Fingers crossed the game is on. If it is I expect to see one or two changes from Saturday, with probably a more cautions look to the team. ------------------Ruddy------------------ Moutouakil---Craigan--Reynolds----Hammell --------Lasley----Hateley----Jennings----- Murphy----------------------------O'Brien -----------------Jutkiewitz---------------- I'd take a draw right now, but hoping that the new management thing works in our favour and we can pinch it.
  5. Hopefully Brown and Know can stay in charge for longer than three games to allow us time to stabilise and bring in a long term gaffer. To be honest we'll have about enough in the playing squad fopr the rest of the season if we keep the loanees, so not much is required in terms of transfers. Welcome aboard Craig and Archie, and good luck.
  6. Can't believe its two years since Uncle Phil passed away. My thoughts are with his nearest and dearest today. # 10
  7. Mainly yes for me. There have been some things I haven't fully agreed with, but by and large he's got most things right.
  8. If this comes off then fine by me, should steady the ship and get the players playing again.

    New Manager

Whoever we get in it has to be done quickly for me. If it takes a few weeks we'll be approaching the end of the transfer window, probably having lost Ruddy, Jutkiewitz and Moutouakil already with no sign of new faces arriving. If that happens we'll have a very tough second half of the season. That of course is worst case scenario, the one most of us on here usually expect!! I'm not sure we'll have anyone lined up to replace Gannon and hope we can attract someone of calibre and experience, no matter who it is.
  10. I'm sure that Boyle, Gannon and perhaps some players will have their say over the next few days, and that much more will surface about this story. What we need to do is back the team 100% on Wednesday and against Accies next weekend, the rest will take care of itself.
  11. Never seen this one coming to be honest, and I suspect there a LOT more to this than we will ever be told. He did rub folk up the wrong way in his six months here but it shouldn't be forgotten that he did many good things too. I now hope we bring in a good long-term appointment and that Gannon's departure doesn't screw us over for the January transfer window, especially with the loanees. Good luck Jim.
  12. Wonder if the rumours of player unrest are true, and also played a part in Gannon's departure? A real shock and could have a negative efect on our transfers in January, especially the loan signings like Ruddy, who were attracted here by Gannon.
  13. That was an unspeakably poor second half today, as another poster said its the fourth successive half time lead we've blown after the interval. Why is that? Too much tinkering by Gannon? Very possibly? Tiring players? Maybe. Whatever it is we need to arrest this slump pronto. We did take a while to get going, but we finished the first half strongly and our lead should've been greater. After the break? Car crash viewing for us Well fans. True we are missing Hutchinson, Coke and Forbes with injury but we had enough available to perfomr far better that we did today. The huge disappointment for me was how meekly we surrendered under St Johnstone's pressure. They got it forward quickly and linked well from midfield to front, but as a team we were too easily brushed aside. We don't have many options to change it for Wednesday, but I feel that young Saunders could do with a rest as his confidence looks shot right now. He's been superb but is suffering just now. I wouldn't tinker too much and I hope Gannon resists that urge. The next few days will show what he and the team are made of.
  14. I can fully understand why some fans would be frustrated and angry after the very poor second half today. Its now seven games without a win and four defeats on the bounce. with our recent defensive efforts being nothing short of dreadful. However, we do have a lot of youngsters in the squad who need some confidence, so too much abuse is without question counter-productive to their performances and development. Even many of the more experienced players like Crags and Las haven't featured much and will be a tad rusty, so our support is needed at this tough time. I can see what the bigger picture is, but short term we do need to show an improvement as the teams below are closing in and I don't believe we're equipped to deal with a scrap at the bottom. Still, I'm still behind Jim and the lads, bring on the Tarts!
  15. It was cracking wasn't it?!!! Chuffed when he hit the bar!
  16. Must have been those professional lads helping out eh?!!!
  17. A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to Well fans the world over.
  18. No-one seems to have mentioned Richard Offiong when we had him on loan from Newcastle. A complete headless chicken with pace but sod all else! What about the big Aussie Steve McDonald that Butcher brought in? Nae good at all. Also, mind we had Neil Tarrant on loan in Davies's last few months as Well gaffer? A lazy lump if ever I saw one.
  19. The game will be on if the only concern is the pitch, as we know we have fully functioning undersoil heating and also a cover on top I believe. In terms of the team I feel we need to get back to what we did well early in the season. We need to pass the ball well but not be brushed off the ball so easily. We also need to mix it up a bit more and go direct if the occasion merits it. I would set the team out in a 4-4-2 formation with the following personnel: Ruddy Moutouakil Hutchinson Reynolds Hammell Murphy Hateley Jennings O'Brien Jutkiewitz Sutton With that team and a decent performace I'll say 3-1 to us.
  20. My dad took me to my first game in April 1982 against Clydebank at Fir Park. Older members will know we clinched the First Division title that day after a 0-0 draw, so it was a confusing start for me! Mind you, the Motherwell roller-coaster had had us all scratching our heads many a time, so I suppose it was a sign of things to come! The old fella was a Clyde fan in his day, as his dad was, and instilled in me that you support your local team. Wise words indeed!
  21. It was a real going over, no doubt about that. Never seen it coming at half time though, as for all they lead 1-0 they hadn't done much since the goal. Not that we were any great shakes, but at 1-0 you still have a chance and they weren't looking too dangerous. The second forty five was nightmarish at times. We were overrun in midfield and under real pressure at the back. We simply couldn't cope with their pace and movement and allowed them too much space to play. They worked harder than us to win the ball back which is hugely disappointing, perhaps we need to press and harry a bit more? We seem happy to play the ball across the defence, but this only serves to allow the opposition to play a higher line and press the ball near our goal. If we keep conceding possession in our own half the pressure will ultimately tell, and this certainly happened in this game. Now is not the time for knee-jerk reactions, and even though we've not won in six we're still fifth! I'm looking for a reaction from the lads at the St Johnstone game, we really could do with a win and an improved showing to give us fans a boost and raise the confidence in the team. This game is in the past, bring on boxing day!
  22. Aye it was a very good night, and a big well done to all ther guys involved. Here's to more in the future.
  23. In fairness most teams usually get the thin end of the wedge in Glasgow, and when you add to the mix Gannon's criticism of Thomson in the press, you can surely see my point!! I'm not saying he's biased but I'll be very pleasantly surprised if we are the beneficiaries of most decisions on Saturday. Years of experience says we won't be!
  24. I will also be in attendance. I wonder if Meechan and McHugh will recover from their injuries in time? Even if they do I'd be tempted to restore the likes of Coke, Forbes, O'Brien and Hutchinson to the starting line-up. This is a place to get the ball down and pass it, so I'm sure the team will reflect this. I approach this in a cautiously optimistic frame of mind. We are capable of taking something from this game, but we need to keep Boyd quiet and control the midfield in order for that to happen.
