I had Davie Whiteford for PE teacher at Dalziel and Wilson Humphries for English. He was also BB officer for company 2 and then 2/4, along with George Cummings who played for St Mirren and Thistle before going into refereeing.

George Cumming was also my Geography teacher at Earnock. Not a fan of the OF or their supporters.

Me and my dad often talk about going to the Cowdenbeath game. The 3-2 comeback against Celtic in the 3rd round probably fired everyone up, and that team could easily have beaten anyone on their day - losing those 2 semis was an education on being a Motherwell fan.

My education was also very much delivered in the 1975 Airdrie cup semi. I still have the scarf I bought for that game in case I ever forget.

Cowdenbeath were our 4th round opponents. Half of Lanarkshire descended on Fife that day.

I remember that well. Was surprised walking to the ground just how many 'Well fans turned up.

  4. The first game I ever went to was, I think, in the 70-71 season. From 1970 - 1984 (very much my formative Motherwell years) we only had a hoop on the shirt for part of one season, which is no doubt why I'm not as attached to it as some.

Wulie P and Bobby Graham etc. will always be the claret diagonal for me.

That clown Shaw's miss not only cost us another two points but potentially some much needed cash as well .

You can't distill our lack of points down to one incident in one game. We've given away many goals that have cost us points and missed many chances that would have potentially earned us points over the course of the season. Just like every other team.

That's why the league table is a good reflection of form over the season.

  6. Most of the defensive mistakes I've seen this season have been in the middle. Casey, Blaney and Butcher have all been culpable with some horrendous lapses in concentration when marking or just giving the ball away.

There was a long stretch this season when all Casey did was run about and give away fouls in dangerous areas.

SOD has his faults too - every player does - but when he's on his game he can at least pick out a pass and a cross. I've given up now on seeing full backs that can defend well, because that requirement has been eliminated from the modern game.

Well done to Ross County, but that's not good news for us.

Has almost no impact on us, but I'd be worried if I was a St Johnstone fan.

We had 4 wins and a draw post-split last season. 2 wins this season would mean County have to win all 5 to overhaul us (or 4 wins, a draw and make up 19 goals).

BTW. This is another reason I don't like the split. Top 6 teams having to take on teams fighting for survival is a huge part of the game and often throws up a shock result or two.

Was talking to some Celtic supporters this week about Theo Bair and said he must be the biggest player in the league.

Well I wanted to know for sure....so I did the research.

Top Ten Units in the Scottish Premier League (height x weight, goalkeepers excluded).

    7. James Scott (St Mirren)

I remember Robinson saying James Scott didn't make good use of his size when he was with us, and still seems to be the case these days. It was only when I saw him standing beside guys like McHugh, Aldred and Hartley I could see he was a unit.

  9. The Netflix thing is just a hook that journos love to use. Same as "ex-Ranger" or "former Miss Kirkcaldy" (depending on the publication). It's a shorthand way of providing a background most readers are familiar with.

If they used "current Wild Sheep Content CEO" we'd all have to look it up.

  10. I'm just looking forward to leaning in to the corporate synergy that leverages KPIs of the verticals in the intersectional market segments funnel as we disrupt the traditional leather based sphere projectile space.

Given that wee (john boyle or Nevin i think) were trotting out the 'fir park micro-climate' excuse. I dont think we can be too critical of Dundee bringing out their own crazy statements

Most of us were critical of those excuses too - I know I was.

And if Motherwell Utd had a playable pitch across the street I doubt even Boyle would have tried that excuse.

  12. Never been a huge fan of Rangers and their statements, but hard to argue with this one:

    Quote

"The negligence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by Dundee Football Club, where they have repeatedly breached SPFL rules, continues to have a damaging effect on the top professional league in the country," Rangers commented in a club statement.

"In a week where record TV viewing figures were recorded for a match in the same competition, and this evening's game due to be televised again by Sky Sports, this episode is deeply embarrassing and has also been eminently avoidable.

"Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make representations to them in the strongest possible manner."

    Of course!

You could add, not try and wind up our fans on your return to Fir Park having left for no transfer fee and bending international rules to ensure the development fee doesnt get paid!

It did get paid, though. Just took longer than usual because it was the first year MLS teams were in the scheme and their federation were trying to claim they were Tier 4 for the purposes of compensation pay outs. So it had to go through all the UEFA and FIFA bureaucracy until it was settled.

In the end, when Cadden signed for Hibs, the fee had to be paid before he got his clearance.

'Flow talked about this on a couple of occasions including confirming that it was paid.

Also, anybody who gives a footballer any credit for the brains to come up with a scheme like that hasn't met many footballers.

  14. Looking through my old Society emails, I did receive one from Craig Hughes back in 2015 about the monthly subs. I think, however, that was aimed at international members as it also talked about making it easier for us to donate with the new Paypal option.

One fly in the ointment could be the Dundee Rangers game being off this midweek which going by the weather forecast is a distinct possibility.

Looking forward to that one being played at Airdire behind closed doors.

I doubt anything that doesn't guarantee the WS retaining 51% would succeed

I thought that too, but the last vote showed the members were very much of the the opposite view indicating they would be willing to give up an overall majority; and by quite some margin.

  17. That was the main reason I didn't think SK should be punted during our bad spell.

The players obviously wanted to play for him and each other. That is always the best chance you have of turning things around.

When a manager loses the dressing room, or when players start infighting, then it's pretty much over.
