  1. Initially I thought Spittal was off, but on the replay noticed there was a defender on the nearside playing him on. I'll like VAR now for the next 5 minutes.
  2. It's even better than that at Fir Park. The last time they beat us there was 2002. Of course the downside of playing them is the sore neck you get from watching the ball in the air.
  3. Of course, it's equally possible the reason Johnston is able to push for the first team now is due to the first team playing time he got at Cove. That will have made him much more competitve than watching us from the bench on a Saturday.
  4. Only one winner in the Kelly family on Saturday night and it won't be Sean.
  5. You have to go back to the season we were in the playoff to find the last time 33 points wasn't sufficient to avoid relegation/playoff spots. Even 3 points out the next 9 should be plenty, but would be good to keep things going with another 2 home wins.
  6. Manager brings in player he's worked with for a few years at his previous club. Hardly unique to us. I'm sure steelboy's scouting network contains a long list of superstars looking to play for us on Fir Park wages, but until he shares it with the club we'll just have to rely on Kettlewell's list.
  7. Keepers get away with that every week. High studs, high knees, flying elbows, flattening players (and if you're a Rangers keeper, punching players) - it's annoying, but it's not going to change in my lifetime. I can't even remember the last time I saw a keeper sent off for a reckless challenge.
  8. Not in the current laws. (IFAB Law 12 for anorak inclined) Even if the player prevents an obvious goal scoring opportunity, if the ref believes they attempted to play the ball it's just a yellow card and a penalty.
  9. My internet dropped in the 95th minute, but I'm assuming we held on.
  10. Once you've swapped Motherwell and St Johnstone on your Shoot! League Ladders, take your pick...
  11. This game looks like it has a few more goals in it.
  12. We're just full of free kick maestros.
  13. Seems to be playing well after his brief stint on the bench. Looks like Luton have been playing a 3-4-1-2 recently with Al playing in the advanced midfield role. That has always been his best position for me.
  14. Search ongoing was the least thing I read. TBH, I was more concerned about filling the coaching staff vacancies first, so not too worried about a new CEO taking longer.
  15. It's not about limiting anything. It's about what the clubs can support. If you're averaging 1000 people at a game (like Gateshead) at £10 or £15 quid top price, then it's a bit of a stretch to pay all the squad a wage that will let them support a family. There are some exceptions of course for the teams that are trying to bankroll their way into the top flight.
  16. I see the non-league players are quoted as "Football is our livelihood and the sole mechanism for financially supporting our families." While I'm all for anyone getting a livable wage, the fact that players can support themselves and their families on a non-league salary shows how much some of these clubs are spending in an effort to make it into the senior divisions. Non-league wages used to be a nice wee supplement to your day job. I'm guessing more and more clubs are digging themselves into financial holes.
  17. I have no issue with McBurnie being Scottish. I do have issue with him being regarded an international class striker.
  18. Now Hibs have a slight sniff of third place there's a good chance they will Hibs it. It might not be in this game, but put a bit of pressure on them early on and we'll find out. Biggest factor will be how many players we injure during the international break. (Special mention to Lee Johnson who is the only manager I've heard be vocal about how terrible plastic pitches are and how they should be nowhere near the top division).
  19. Fair enough (although I'd hesitate to hand over money to a group that didn't run a spell checker on a document they paid to print). The initiative itself sounds like a plan to split the support and oppose the club (and the safety officer they hate) as a reaction to the "Heavy Hands" complaint, and that seems like a bad thing to me. I'm all for better atmosphere at games, but I don't think this is the way.
  20. The grocer's apostrophe must have pushed you over the edge.
  21. You weren't irked by "intiative" in the first line?
  22. I'm not convinced. I have lost count of the number of players I have seen collapse to the ground clutching their face when their opponent has caught them on the shoulder. The incident I saw at the weekend, the ref saw it was no foul and let the opponent take the ball away, but no action was taking against the faker.
  23. I'm not seeing anything from the teams below us right now that makes me think they'll be overhauling us. Livi and St MIrren are no great shakes either, and we have a chance to put some pressure on St Johnstone and keep them in the mix. As long as we don't pull our usual trick of injuring a few key players during international break it looks like we'll be enter this critical stage with our strongest squad of the season. The biggest thing for us will be the belief we've picked up over the past few games. We've picked up 10 points in our last 5 games. The three teams below us have picked up 7 points in total in their last 15 games combined, including just 1 win. 10 points from our remaining games shouldn't be too big of an ask.
