Thats my take. A poor game due in no small part to weak and inconsistent officials. County were fired up, as expected, and took a very robust, but negative, approach to the game and were fortunate not to pick up a good few yellow cards. County had plenty of pressure but didn't trouble Kelly. Our midfield seemed to be a bit off it today and lost too many 50/50 challenges. We were dangerous on the break but things just didn't run for us. KVV and Spittal were unlucky to be booked. Not sure about their penalty claim and will have to watch it on TV. I thought we too had a reasonable penalty shout in the first half - Spittal (?) dragged to the deck, but the ref wasn't interested. One thing I would say though is that players should not be allowed to surround and harass the ref at the VAR screen. Our penalty was a penalty as Baldwin moves his arm to palm the ball away. Despite the drawbacks of VAR, it did demonstrate that the ref got both of the penalty claims wrong. A flat end of season game for us but we won, held onto 7th place, and KVV scored. Some concerning injuries though. Furlong looked to have taken a bad one and Casey looked to have damaged his arm or shoulder. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I didn't enjoy the game until the final whistle. Too tense. I had cause to go down to the concourse under the stand during extra time and it was crammed full of Well fans who couldn't bear to watch the game.

Matty Connelly has just signed a new deal. Details scant as yet.
-
It did. It brought about the delayed, but inevitable, demise of Graham Alexander. The Board then made a blunder by appointing Stevie Hammell and Brian Kerr. They redeemed themselves a bit by firing Stevie, albeit almost too late, and appointing Ketts. A dramatic and strange season of extremes.

I thought he was out of contract at the end of this season. Is he carrying a serious injury?

Well done to her.

I wouldn't quite say "certainties for relegation", but we weren't far off being them at the end of Stevie Hammell's reign. I certainly would not have fancied us in the dogfight we're seeing right now. Had that run continued I'd have rated us as being certainties for the bottom two.

An important 3 points in Perth yesterday. We're now mathematically safe and it was satisfying to pick up a win there after years of poor results. Over the piece we deserved the win, although credit to St Johnstone for working hard and partly nullifying us. We had dominance in terms of possession but we played what little football was on display and created the chances. They enjoyed the majority of possession but were toothless up front. Kelly had almost nothing to do. We looked sluggish and jaded in the first 45 and sat off St Johnstone whilst they buzzed about the park and got wired in. Probably quite rightly, SK decided this was a day for the long ball. Total supposition on my part, but it seemed to me that SK judged before hand that we weren't able to compete with Saints in the engine room in the usual midfield grind in Perth. We certainly lacked energy, aggression, drive and composure in midfield. Whilst Saints worked damned hard, they failed to dent our defence, which was excellently marshalled by Butcher and Casey in the middle. The second half, although not great, was definitely better and we created a few chances and could have scored a couple more. The long ball again worked well for us. Saints again huffed and puffed but ultimately did nothing. My only concern was that we semed vulnerable on the flanks where were frequently caught 2 on 1. But who am I to criticise when SK produced the goods? Unfortunate that Johnston missed out, as we missed his attacking runs. SOD did ok defensively but I get the impression he's finished at this level. I thought the referee was very poor and inconsistent. Saints, as usual were streetwise and conned him a good few times. Fortunately his red card stayed in his pocket - you always have the fear about officials like him. He pulled us up twice in the first 10 minutes for stealing maybe 3/4 metres at free kicks but let worse offenders off for the remaining 80 odd. Some interesting VAR decisions. KVV did the business again today at the second time of asking but overall looked a bit off peak fitness, as confirmed by SK. A soft penalty, but Saints have benefitted more than most against us from them in the past. It seems the Saints keeper was penalised, rightly, for being about 20/30 cms off his line when the kick was taken. Overall a good day at the office.

Anyone know what happened to Max Johnston? Apparently he travelled in the team bus.

Shocking pitch. Apart from lumps and bumps it has several slopes that need levelled.

I suspect the SPFL will try to railroad this proposl through, despite only being a voice for the membership. I'm totally against this and have contacted the Society. Its a trojan horse to allow the gruesome twosome entry to the senior leagues, and eventually the Championship. There will of course be "sweeteners" to get the lower league clubs onside.

That's an interesting way of saying "Come and get me."

Are you saying there's a wider issue of concern here? Anyone should feel free to post.
-
WOW, where did that come from? You do know that the vast majority of posters on here, including me, will know nothing about this. Sad and unacceptable, if true.

Fair summing up. A big game for us and we came good when it mattered. We deservedly won and 2-0 was the right scoreline. We had the better chances and Kelly was hardly troubled at all. Killie were fired up, as expected, and outbattled us in midfield but that was it. They created virtually nothing. I got a bit nervous at 1-0 when we seemed content to sit back and let them have the ball but who am I to argue against our gameplan when we won 2-0. Only real point of concern for me was that Furlong was left a bit exposed late on. King Kev was my MOTM and he showed some sublime touches. His second goal was wordly - amazing ball control and finish. He wasn't in any way intimidated by man mountain, Sam Walker in goal - I know I would have been. What a size of a keeper! I was disappoined by Killie's tactics - a very streetwise team. From start to finish they went down at the slightest hint of a touch and conned a weak Kevin Clancy repeatedly. The ref was totally inconsistent and carded Slattery for almost nothing. He was totally disinterested when Goss was poleaxed. Any ref will make mistakes but he was overly fussy. I don't know what the VAR 7 minute delay was all about - possible red card? Offside? A combination of both? VAR operators need to keep the fans informed. Finally a well deserved compliment to our club. They treated the visiting Killie fans with total respect by opening up the both tiers of the away stand when many clubs would simply have refused to do so. Thats a real bugbear of mine at stadia like Livingston where our fans are crammed into 2 or 3 sections with hardly a spare seat, when neighbouring vacant sections are cordoned off. All in all a great day at the office for what was a tricky game. The Kettle is still boiling.

Unlucky given what the referee let Killie players away with.
-
Didn't think he made any contact at all.

I can see Dundee having a clear out and splashing the cash. Maybe Maguire will be surplus to requirement and they won't want to extend his loan. Will Queens Park want to retain Shields?
-
1-1? We're on a very good run of form and Killie will have their tails up after Paisley and be fired up to boot. We haven't bested them in 3 attempts so far this season and another close game is in prospect. A draw wouldn't be the worst result in the world for us against a team 6 points below us and running out of games, but it won't suit Killie.

Not much of a jump for me, but I sympathise with others, for whom the increase is more substantial. I can recall in years gone, with a young family, agonising about whether I could afford a season ticket. I always did though. Cinemas now costing £14.50 for an adult and £10.50 for a child. Concerts at the Hydro for bigger names costing on average £60 - £200 for 2-3 hours. The club's energy bill will have surged; staff will rightly ask for increased wages. As you say its a sign of the times.
-
Although none of us alive today saw him play, he's an all time legend, and top of my personal Hall of fame List. My late father, as a young boy, did see him in action though. Hughie could do nothing for 89 minutes but give him a sniff of goal and the ball would be in the net. As others say, his is a tragic story and one that deserves to be more widely publicised. Thanks to Yabba for bringing it up. Great stats.
-
That's my understanding too; it's only fair. I think we were the only club in the Premiership to start concessions at 60.
-
Exactly. Its vital and only right that the club treats its employees with respect and looks after them. There's been a modest but noticeable tendency in recent years for some fans to side slightly more with the player than the club when push comes to shove. But, the club must also look after itself.
-
Maybe, for a club of our status. Had he shown the exact same level of form with say Dundee United, Hibs or Aberdeen that would be a different matter entirely.
-
Not impossible, but can't see Ross County picking up 4 wins. Very unlikely. However I'm of the view we give 100% and assume nothing until we're mathematically safe.
