We need to concentrate on players playing in their best position, although I understand last season we had no choice due to all the injuries. We should at least start the season that way, so I think that just leaves Balmer to partner Gordon and I believe we need to improve on that. I can see McGinn and Koutroumbis sharing playing time at right back as it is going to be hard for either of them to give 100% for 90 mins. I think O'Donnell and McGinn were right backs at one point in their career. But whether a manager plays a three or a four, your full/wing backs are asked to do a lot of attacking as well as defending. Are McGinn and O'Donnell really that capable of that these days? I think we have a glut of defenders, some of whom used to be full backs and a probably better suited to centre back, some centre backs of varying quality and one left back who may be only seen as good enough for backup. Problem is all of these players are under contract (renewing both O'Donnell and McGinn is borderline insanity) so to sign too manyvmore defenders again leads to a large squad with people not contributing as we had last season. Can we move a couple of them on? Time will tell...

Questionmarks also remain about McGinn's fitness now. As Weeyin has said, on a few occasions, our defence needs an overhaul and that should start in the middle. That's kind of my point. Many on here rightly point out that our squad was huge last season full of players not contributing. To sign another defender before moving someone else on risks the same situation...
Spiderpig
We are allegedly interested in a striker from Crystal Palace, Ademola Adebomi https://www.glasgowworld.com/sport/football/motherwell-fc/crystal-palace-talent-motherwell-transfer-radar-interested-in-forward-5176400 The article says he has other options so we probably can't afford him. wellfan
No point cramming the squad now. Like clockwork, the recruitment team will be back at it in January, dishing out contracts to anyone with a pulse to paper over the annual injury crisis. So, at what time will the the recruitment team start "dishing out" contracts? I certainly have a pulse and could do with some extra cash, so would like to get in early to join the queue. We just need to get the Miller money in and bring in some quality over the next couple of weeks.

Exactly. 3 or 4 quality signings to sprinkle some stardust on what is, on the face of it, a mostly solid if unremarkable squad. More Spittal's less Paton's & Davor's. Not sure signing a 31 year old defensive midfielder from that same team is guaranteed to help our defensive solidity...

Eventually got him sacked maybe ift was managers fault.
weeyin
Lennon Miller played in a team that shipped goals for fun and struggled to create last season. So it's possible to be a good player in an average (or worse) team.

I can only go with what the Dundee fans say about him and the general consensus is that he was one of their best players in a poor team and they're gutted to lose him. Must admit any time Ive seen him he's looked steady if unspectacular which is probably what we're looking for, unless our new man has his eyes on something better. joewarkfanclub
We definitely need a solid DMF. Whether thats Sylla or someone else, Im not overly bothered. But he has always looked a bit of a "unit" whenever we played them. Always thought that would end up being Wee Al's settled position. Not sure why he was always seen as a box to box player. With the players due back in today, hopefully we will get some more movement on contracts soon.

As with Casey, and given they weren't detailed in the GTF list, I can only assume we've also offered contracts to Paton, Davor, Moses, Thompson and Seddon. Of that lot, Seddon is the only one worthy of an offer. Today’s update states: “The club remains in dialogue with the remaining players who are out of contract.” Surely that’s only Thompson now? Or am I forgetting anyone else?
mio
There’s something about Moses that makes me think we could regret letting him go. He’s got such a weird running style, he’s quite awkward and he’s not my ideal type of striker ,,,,, but he can score goals. I think he’ll do ok wherever he ends up. im not overly fussed about seddon going, I always felt he was average. Both Paton and Davor give their all but I can live with them going. lets hope we see some new faces soon.
weeyin
I liked Moses, but remain unconvinced he could have been a starter for us. Most of the goals he scored were when we were in "throw the kitchen sink to grab an equaliser" mode. He was less effective in the starting line-up. wellgirl
Connelly is the other player we are negotiating with.
wellfan
According to the official website, these are our forward options: Robinson, Stama, Stuparević, Nicholson, Ross, and Maswanhise. Four of them are injured, so reinforcements in attack are urgently needed and ideally before the squad travels to Delden next week. I really hope the new manager has some good contacts. grizzlyg
Sorry to see Seddon go, would be worried if Wilson and Thompson are our left back options next year
