I know what you mean, but the hoop and/or band has only been used on about 50% of our kits in our history. Even when I started watching us around 1970, we only had one hoop season until 1984.

Our kit in the 1925-26 season looked like this:

I'd be OK if we did that as a tribute 100 years later.

I should have bought a lottery ticket the day I posted this.

Looks to me like they’ve tried to cram two different designs onto the same shirt.

I just don’t get why we can’t stick with the amber shirt and claret band. It’s distinctive and people recognise it as ours. Do other clubs mess about with their traditional look as much as we do? Take Celtic, for instance – they keep their hoops. You don’t see Manchester United randomly switching to stripes, do you? Maybe one shirt in the last twenty years had a “V” on it, but they mostly stick to their main design and colours.

There are still two other kits each season where you can be as creative as you like.

Not for me.

Too fussy.

Band or pinstripes. Not both.

Just looks a bit of a rehash of the one from a few seasons back.

And G4 Claims is just a shit sponsor

In fact that one was smarter.....

Agree with the first comment. Saying that I like the new strip.... except for the sledgehammer of a sponsor across the front of course.

Regarding your second point, personally I like the fact we've mixed it up a bit recently, switching between something traditional and something different every other season... keeps things interesting if nothing else.

Looking forward to the away kit. Would love to see claret with amber band. Not done that since early 00s if im not mistaken? 🤔

I don’t and never have agreed with this idea that we need to “mix it up” when it comes to our home kit. I’m not expecting or demanding a claret hoop every season but our home kit, in my opinion, should consist of a predominantly Amber jersey with the Claret worked into it in some form. I know the shorts colour splits opinion as many prefer white but for me it should always be mostly Claret shorts.

That keeps it simple and true to our classic home colours. Why stray from that? Someone said the other week that we have two home colours so that’s why we don’t stick with tradition like other clubs do, but the same could be said for Newcastle with their Black and White….do they ever release home kits that are miles out from their tradition just so they can be a “bit different”? No chance.

We’ve done well with this new one. Band/hoop or not and that is largely how a Motherwell FC home kit should look as it properly embraces our colours.

Agree completely and with MJC's comments above. It's far too fussy and busy and a horizontal band  and verical pinstripe just don't work, even before we get on to The Shorts Question.

Our "Theo Bair" year jersey was fine imo and should be our basic template. If the likes of Newcastle United can keep their stripes for a century without needless experiment why not us? We can do that with the other two strips each year.

The hoop is such a distinctive feature it's a pity the club don't seem to value it as a "brand". It was used for sixty years until about 1968 and we won the league, cup and league cup  wearing it.

Oh, well, maybe next year, if I'm still around.

Thats a far superior kit in every way

I'd say it was also too fussy. Doesn't need all those extra fine pinstripes.

Designers these days can't help themselves these days. Just because technology makes it easy and possible to keep adding things, doesn't mean you should.

Totally agree, I've never understood why we need to change the strip every season or two, its unecessary nonsense. Why can't we just find a design, in the club colours and keep it as do Celtic, Newcastle, etc who had had the same basic design forever.

For me if I had a choice between the hoop or the stripes, I'd pick stripes as per the shirt we wore in the mid 1920's that was a cracker.

I don’t know why likes of Newcastle keep getting referenced as not changing their kit.
the number of black stripes on home kit changed every year from 2020 as has the extra trim, inc colour variants.
Celtic also have wild variety of bizarre takes on hoops in recent years.
Whether we agree or not it’s the nature of commercial income these days. I just wish we’d keep the same manager for at least the length of time a kit is on sale :)
