A good win today in difficult circumstances. Saints are flying high in the Championship and, according to a BBC pundit, would be expecting to score a few goals today. Another clean sheet for us and we progress. Young Zander McAllister also made his debut.

On the debit side we really do need to beef up our attack,  but the manager knows that.

Thought we were totally dominant today. Again nice football to watch too powder puff the first half but in the second we improved in the final 3rd. Should have been more comfortable than the score suggests. Said needs to sharpen up on his decision making for the pass however more than compensated for with effort and dig to win second balls. Osong  looks like he could have something about him. When its 1-0 or 0-0 its always nervy but we really were in total control for 90% of the game.

Was it just me or did anyone else think St J were unlucky not to get a penalty with the last kick of the ball?

Aberdeen away

Not too unhappy, when you get to the Quarters you need to be very lucky to get one of the lessers lights. Aberdeen are beatable , both teams will fancy their chances. the quarters are where we should expect to get to most seasons , anything beyond that is a bonus.

Great result today and there is a growing sense that JBA could be the real deal.

Tough draw at Aberdeen but I suppose they all are now.

As an aside, I remember around the late 2010's when Rangers were making their way up through the divisions again I noticed that they got home ties at Ibrox in the vast majority of cup draws.

I kept a tab on it for a while and eventually lost interest but the trend has continued. It would be interesting to do the analysis over the last 7/8 years but it must run at about 80/90% home draws in all cup competition, very often against lower league opposition.

We have not been nearly as fortunate in that same time frame.

The vagaries of chance.

Can I just say the football we are playing right now is an absolute joy to watch.

We are totally dominating teams in terms of possession and are brave in all areas of the park.

We need to be more clinical but that will come.

All I can say is I was really struggling the last few years watching Motherwell - it was a real chore at times, but now it’s fantastic to see us play actual football and get the rewards for being brave.

Completely agree.

Agree on style of play , I don’t remember ever having a team that can retain the ball , find one another . Some of the midfield play has been superb .

we need to learn to be ruthless , up front the final ball and decisions haven’t been great .  The exception was the goal , we did the simple thing and took the goal well .

With a bit more confidence and composure we could have many handsome wins.

final point is the ball retention has made us damn hard to score against . Can’t see many teams thumping us

Didn't see the game today, but have to say I quite enjoyed getting the fishel WhatsApp updates instead, they're not a bad replacement for the matchday Tweets of yore. (But yes, I know it's an app owned by Zuck, which isn't much better than one owned by Space Karen.)

The official stream was pretty ropey today, so you didn’t miss too much in that respect.

I think they were using a low res webcam and a dial-up connection. I’m guessing there wasn’t a Premiersports stream they could use.

We didn’t win either. And today we can’t really draw as it is a knockout tie which is played to a finish. We don’t have goals in us so I can’t see us winning so as I said another draw is the most likely outcome, with a penalty shootout defeat to follow.

And let me be as clear as possible here, if that is what happens and we exit the Cup today then that will be unacceptable. This game is a must win game so if we play well and show promise but ultimately fail to reach the next round then it’s not good enough. It won’t necessarily be an indicator of how the season will pan out but Cup runs are important to us as a club and as a support.

The premise of your post is that every time we have a big crowd we are shite and lose. Its a trope on here that fly's in the face of actual facts.

We played well last week at a difficult away venue and didnt lose.

We did the same today and are in the next round of the cup. So maybe we need to put this nonsense to bed.

Thought we played very well again today.

St Johnstone started really well but tonce we figured them out we basically dominated the ball.

We do need to be better with out decision making and delivery in the final third, that way, we might allow our only striker to have some shots at goal that he can be fairly judged on!

We are still a little weak at the back and gifting some unecessary chances, and a mixture of those two weaknesses could have seen us in trouble today, but we managed to keep the clean sheet and get the goal required to see us over the line, so all good.

Osong didnt really show me too much today to suggest he will be the answer to our striking problems, but he was played out wide, so I will wait until we see him thru the middle before passing judgement. I did think he would be quicker than he showed however.

Overall, another solid team perdormance and you can see ethe players are all having fun and buying into the managers philosophy. Most of them were absolutely burst by the end.

Also nice to see young Xander McAllister get a start. Both he and Luca  Ross provided a fresh energy to proceedings when they camae on.

Big couple of weeks for the management team now. We clearly need some bodies in the door. Hopefully they will be of the quality required for us to have a successful season. We are so close to having a really good team.

Played really well - my nerves were shattered by the end though. Nice to see the Motherwell fans have a clap in the 38th minute for Miller

I've not been to McDiarmid Park in decades (the shame) but I was completely transfixed by the fact there was a screen showing the game as well

(And they sell vegan pies).
