I think what hasn't helped the perception of Vogt's start with us for some people is the unusually high early hit rate of the other new signings, i.e. most, if not all of the rest, seem to have settled straight away and have at worst impressed to some degree or even looked real finds.

Probably be a few months into the season before things look a bit clearer, for all of them.

It is far too early to judge Vogt.

Higdon is the obvious example but I could name two more at least who had very uninspiring debuts butwent on to do well with us.

Lukas Jutkiewitz ( excuse spelling)

Debuted at Aberdeen under Gannon. He was slow looked unfit, the ball kept bouncing off him. Remember how he turned out?

Louis Moult

Debut at Inverness under Baraclough and looked completely lost. Bullied off the ball, lacking a physical presence. H just looked out his depth. The other debut striker that day impressed more. Was it Wesley Fletcher ? Remember how the two of them turned out?

Can`t believe you missed out Stevie Cowan!!!😁

I think we held our own in the first half against a very physical big german 11 players. I was so glad we scored even scf players were like calm down its early, it made them actually be like right this isnt going to be a walk in the park for us.

Even their coach said he credited our bravery and the way we played, i just wish we could go back to the jens way play it out from back break teams down lets hope joe H can be the watt replacement and control the midfield for us

This.

I've seen flashes of real class from him and am confident that he has ability. Whether or not he comes good only time will tell. Perhaps, given his background, he's just taking time to settle. Just to be clear he was a "JBA" signing.

Vogt was a tough watch at Ochilview but there has been enough to suggest that his raw attributes could be developed and used to good effect out wide. I think he may benefit from having the likes of SoDs playing behind him and talking him through the game.

More often than not, pace will cause damage in this league and he has it in abundance. The positional sense and knowing when to press will hopefully come over the next few months.

He has the look of another stamatelopolous about him, from the game time hes had he never seems to be where he should be, a rabbit in the headlights at times.

I agree its a bit too soon to judge him, but the early signs are not encouraging.

The goal v hibs and goal on Thursday? If that's not playing out from the back, what is?

I think , even with Slatts,Just and Watt, we would have lost on Thursday.

You got to have the ball to keep it , Freiburg just different level.

For Vogt I really hope the fans don't start getting on his back as that doesn't solve anything. If we get right behind him then hopefully the confidence builds though granted he needs to be showing us more.

I hated the abuse SOD got a few years back from some and now look at him, he's that confident he has a new floppy hairdo! 🤣🤣

So remember Vogt is wearing the well top so he is.........Oor Willy.....Your Willy.....Abody's Willy 😁😁

Nobody will convince me Vogt is a player, out of all players mentioned above, Higdon, moult, Cowan etc etc ….. they’d all proved themselves prior to coming to us. I’d never boo any of our players though, absolutely never. I will however put my head in my hands and say nothing or mutter quietly to myself “for fks sake”!!!
I would love it if he proved my initial take as wrong but I do see Willy moving on loan as soon as we get players back fit or another attacking player is added.

and I think the players don’t rate him either…. The general looks and moaning at him when he’s on doesn’t fill me with our players having much confidence in him.

My mates at every home game have head in hands muttering FFS.  Due to me cracking another joke 🤣🤣

A lot of it is down to fitness, gym work and sports science. When Lennon Miller went to Udinese, they had to work on his physicality. I suppose genetics also play a part. You can't turn a 5'6 player into one who is 6'3.

Spot on. Footballers in general have very well developed thigh and calf muscles but not all of them have a good upper body strength - the central core.

I’m not suggesting that players get ripped and have six-packs but they do need to do some serious gym work to build-up their core and upper body strength.
