Motherwell Seagull
Has there been any news on whether the Gannon will be allowed to spend any of the capital we have brought in of late, or will it be frees and loans only for us? Believe the official position is that there is a budget that can be used to bring players in. Whether the budget is used on small fees, signing on bonuses, wages or all of the above is up to the manager.
gullane
Given their age and health, I don't think Webster and Kennedy fit the Gannon model - and quite right too. Both players were quality - but too big a gamble now. By all means dig up this post six months on if Webster pops up for a corner and headers in a late winner for the Bairns tho. Players will come in to Fir Park over next few weeks. Like Jennings, most of us will never have heard of them.
MearnsWell
In todays Evening Times that we are challenging the Dons for Stepover on loan a year. The Jim Paterson versus Stevie Hammell East Stand touchline challenge starts here.... (Wee Stevie would win but would obviously cut inside in doing so )
colsa
We could do a lot worse that get Steven MacLean on loan as well. Has a good record in the lower leagues in England and the added bonus is that it may well p*ss off MM who is apparently trying to sign him on loan for the sheep scarers. TAM
This guy was mentioned in previous thread as a possibility, but reading this I think we can assume not - http://www.givemefootball.com/league-one/g...art-for-outcast

Haggischomper
Never understood the press's obsession with hyping Andy Webster. Guy was just a jersey puller - we've seen MANY better centre halves than him at Fir Park.
davkel
Todays Daily Mail say that Patty wants to return to Motherwell ...it will be a loan deal . Sturrock said .." we are just waiting to hear from Motherwell "
Bop
I'd like that. I'd definitely be more confident looking at a team with Jim Paterson in it.

jo.mcr
I've said this before, but the type of football we played with patty at left back was far far better than the football played with Hammy. With hammy everytime the ball is at left back its a case of head down and chip the ball over the right backs head into the channel, whereas with patty it was a bit more adventurous. Both are class players, i just prefer Patty.

carlukemurray
i don't know if there are official stats, but the number of goals hammell set up last season was considerable. granted he loves to chip the ball forward and we lose possession a lot, but when he gets forward his crosses and ability from dead balls is better than patersons

EastStandWellFan
Would be delighted if we got JP back. I had felt Hammell had gone stale for about a season before he left us, and while I was happy to get him back when we lost JP I still don't think that he has been anything other than average in a season and a half. He still drifts out of position too often and for a defender I think his defensive qualities are poor. Whereas JP had, in my opinion, been our best player that season before leaving. If he returned at least as good as the player we lost then that would be a tremendous signing. Stuart.

DunnyMFC
Would be great if stepover came back. I dont think it would be worthwhile having Webster or Kennedy as they are too injury prone especially that we have a threadbare squad

daver
I'd be quite happy to see Jim Paterson back as long as it's the slimline McGhee era version and not the slower and fatter than me, Malpas era liability.
steelboy
we definitely need to exercise a bit of caution on this. if paterson has barely played for the year or so there's a fair chance he'll be a little bit mumford. get him on the scales before we sign him. if he is in decent shape i say bring him back. i'd stick with hammell at fullback and play jim in midfield. if we're actually going to play this daft 4-2-3-1 formation he could be handy in the left of the 3, his best performances before he dropped back into defence were playing on the left hand side in an attacking 4-5-1. but definitely get him weighed first. he ripped the piss out of us by being out of shape for three years then suddenly managed to get fit when mcghee started cracking the whip.
