Tough times when we're hanging on Gollum's every word re potential strikers.

Wouldn't panic on one player not arriving a night before the first game. Unless he's been training with us he'll have no understanding with the players and chances are won't be at the same level of fitness as the boys who have been in Europa action.

Would be nice to have a different option up top and sure one will arrive. The fact we aren't scrambling about for players on the eve of the season, like last year when Neilsen and JOB joined, is surely a good sign. If someone does check in tonight, then good stuff but if not still believe we have enough to do well tomorrow.

Quite gutted we don't have a Striker in for the league starting. We are WAAAAAY short of what is required up front, having lost Clarky, Porter, Sheridan and Rosscoe and only got Sutton in in the last year or so.

Thats is threadbare and it seems as if we aren't close to a Striker or it would have been surely rushed through for tommorow. Doubt we will see one in 'till 31 August if at all..

Sheridan replaced Porter. Sutton "replaced" McCormack. Clarkson has just gone. So we are two down on where we were at the end of last season, and realistically we are only one down as Sheridan was pretty useless most of the time.

There is no point in JG rushing a signing through - he's clearly stated that he is building a squad for more than one season.........and there are still two weeks to go before the transfer window closes.

Does anyone seriously think that JG is not working on getting strikers and a right back in place. Give the manager some credit.......and put a bit of trust and patience in him.

Stuart.

Says on the official that Gannon is looking to add a right back and a striker before the deadline 8)

From the Offical:

"There’s just 15 days left before the summer transfer window closes and Gannon is still hopeful of adding a few more faces to the squad.

The manager has identified two areas of the team that require special attention and that will be the focus of the next fortnight.

“We’ve targeting two key areas that we need to strengthen as a priority – that’s the right side of defence and a different type of central attacker to what we have,” he said.

“Young Page and Saunders have a great future but it might be a little bit too early for them at the moment. Even a short-term loan signing at right back would be great for the team as it would allow Jim O’Brien to give us more strength going forward.

“We also think we need a different type of striker. We’ve obviously got John Sutton as our target man but if he were to get injured there’s no natural replacement for him. We’d like a different type of big man up-front to either compliment John or give us more strength in depth. Over and above that, we’re looking at some younger guys that will strengthen our Development Squad through the season.”

Happy and exciting times ahead!

I just wonder if Hately comes into this category? Interesting that he wants to bring in more young players, not necessarily for the first team right away but perhaps for next season. Good long term planning if we can afford it. And if one of these guys breaks through sooner than expected it's just a bonus.

Although this "Development Squad" phrase is a new one on me...

Stating the blindingly obvious, I know, but if you look at the team list on the club site, the manager has not allocated the number 2, 9, and 10 shirts yet, which is as clear as you can get that he is lining up a right back and two strikers.

It's possible, though I don't know this for certain, that the number 10 shirt will not be reallocated.
