I really dont know what some of our fans are expecting? Who wants to come to Motherwell in the middle of winter during a pandemic to fight relegation for £1k a week? Seriously? Im not gonna say Im inspired by any of the signings. To be fair, I hadnt heard of most of them. However, we needed to freshen the squad up. We have done that. It remains to be seen whether any of those signed will be any good. However, lets wait and see. They are all short term deals until the end of the season, so the risk to the club is minimal. Im just delighted that Deccy, SOD and Campbell are all still here. If the mananger can continue to coax performances out of the squad, like the 2nd half v County, then Im reasonably confident we will stay up. Beyond that its hard to say.4 points

There is no way we would have replaced Gallagher and O'Donnell with anyone near their level in January, the pair of them staying is huge.3 points

I agree. The policy of loans and short term contracts make business sense. We have also signed older players with experience. Roberts may not come with the best of reputations but he still has more experience than Hastie and Seedorf combined. How many points have we lost this season for failing to be streetwise, make silly mistakes or close out games. I think Smith, Lawless, Nolan and Foley offer what we have been missing.3 points

The "substantial bids" chat regarding Campbell is smoke and mirrors I suspect. As a youth academy starlet and his age means that even if he goes for free in the summer as he is out of contract we get a development fee. The base line for that is £400k. Therefore I can only imagine that the bids we received were short of that figure as I'm sure we attach value of having him to May so to get him now, I reckon the club would have been looking at £500-600k as what do we have to gain by letting him go for any less than we're guaranteed?2 points

As Stu says, the last time we made a signing I was genuinely excited about was Ross Mccormack, and we all know how that panned out. All in all, I would say it is a sensible window. A solid keeper, a reliable winger, Smith looks handy enough, Foley and Nolan add some experience and hopefully some grit to what is a very young squad. Can't say I am a huge fan of Roberts, but that is based purely on what I am hearing from Hearts fans, that said, we have been through this before with Carroll and Aldred so we should know by now to take those kind of comments with a pinch of salt.2 points

I agree with most people on here that it’s been a decent window. The key was not to loose Campbell, Declan and SOD. Most of the guys signed are there to provide competition to give the first team players a kick up the arse. Also we need to factor in Covid as it surely will have made this a very difficult window. Greg Stewart for example has stayed at Rangers and no doubt that’s to hold onto a decent wage for a few more months and then move in the summer when things are a bit more back to normal. A year ago he would probably have moved to get game time. Right now players want stability with family life and moving club in the heart of winter in a lockdown is probably not what they want to be doing.2 points

just send ur season ticket back and dont watch the games. I'll let you know in May how it goes .Its only going to upset you if we go down or stay up , for that matter2 points

Am I missing something what has McGinley done wrong? I’m on the bandwagon for Lamie though, should have been signed as nothing more than back up, however I think McGinley is more than capable of doing a job, unless he’s not doing it in training but whenever I’ve watched him he’s been decent.1 point

Considering the present board have successfully negotiated us out of probably the 2nd worse financial position in the clubs history I've got enough confidence in them that they know what they're doing.1 point

It could be argued if we exhumed Stephen Hawking's corpse and put goalie gloves on it we'd be in a stronger position1 point

If we’re talking about improvement relative to other clubs, I’d say we’ve improved more than those closest to us. Accies have signed a striker with 9 games in the championship this season without scoring, while Ross County have sold two of their better players on deadline day and brought in Jordan White. We’ve kept our better players and added experience and depth to a squad that was already performing far below its potential.1 point

The thing that disappoints me the most about our deadline day dealings is the complete lack of announcements made in front of Motherwell landmarks. Not a single bridge to be seen.1 point

You'd need to ask those in charge exactly what inspired them to bring back an overweight has-been. Forget 'inspiring', it was a bollocks choice of word. And forget this window, it was always gonnae be difficult to pick any quality up. What depresses me is our inability (or unwillingness) to pick up guys who are on the way up/had decent careers but moving down a step or two/currently in form, or even playing on a regular basis. We're bringing in players who are surplus to requirements at clubs who are at - or below - our level, and players who've wandered around the country, impressing nowhere and hoping for an occasional surprise. Too big a squad, with very limited ability. That's our reality now unless there are some young boys waiting to break through. I don't know enough about our youths to comment on the likelihood of that. I'm yelling at clouds, I know that.1 point

When was the last time we made an ‘inspiring’ signing? Ross McCormack?1 point

How about we just give them a chance before we start predicting league 1 football. Alexander is just through the door, he deserves a bit of time.1 point

Maybe signing all these defenders means we have seen the last of Lamie for a wee while Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk1 point

No it wasnt. My mistake, I was (partially) talking shite! Lawless has played right side for Partick. Anytime I saw him play or read anything about him he was LW but had a wee look thro Youtube and it looks like he has played both sides.1 point

I don't know Shaka. Yes, of course we needed a prolific scorer, but we also needed a main striker for others to play off and Smith fits that bill. We also needed a keeper and Kelly fits that bill. We needed 2 wingers and Lawless and Roberts (who can play on the right) fit those bills. We needed experience in the centre midfield and Foley fits that bill. Also a centre back and Nolan fits that bill. Now thats not to say they will all be successes because they won't of course. We do have a number of long term injuries and I just wonder when we'll see Donnelly again for example. I do however have 2 concerns. Firstly the squad is bloated, albeit our injury list is long. In the coming days we might well see some players go out on loan and/or some contracts paid up. Secondly I still want to see youth given a chance but that will depend of course on results. Many of the squad are on loan or are on short term contracts until the summer and that will give the new management team time to assess them or identify replacements.1 point

While I agree that midfield was an area I would have addressed, in four games under Alexamder, Cole has scored three goals. Maybe he'll get the best out of him. I feel that Cole and Watt will score goals if we create chances. That's why midfield was my concern. Clearly we've not managed to get a creative midfielder in but at the start of January, we had one recognised winger on our books. Now we have three. Maybe one of them will create the chances we need. Like you, I don't think that defenders were a priority, at least in terms of numbers. But beyond Gallagher and Mugabi, which of them do you trust..?1 point

I hope Aberden treated Curtis well, in terms of a pay off. He gave us some amazing memories in a Well shirt, although he was never a prolific scorer.1 point

To be fair to Nolan, he's probably struggled to play in the 4th division because that's not the league Crewe are in.1 point

If nolan has same impact that Tom Aldred had then I wont complain1 point

nah, let's pre judge these players before they play, that's what they do on here. makes you want the guys to do well , for the club and to shut the eejits on this forum up.1 point

Robinson's downfall is he padded the team out with mediocrity that on paper flattered. It appears Alexander is following that model by adding to an already bloated squad. I hope to be proven wrong. The only player out so far is White. Which confirms what we all know, too few are attractive to potential suitors. It appears theres a few in that squad who know they'd not realise the wages elsewhere or have a desire to play regularly so willing to ride out their contracts.1 point

I don’t know if this is allowed so delete if not. I’d say it’s Motherwell related with how much of a impact mental health has on Motherwell and the surrounding area. I’m trying to run 5k everyday through February to raise funds for Chris House a local mental health charity. Please donate if you can(new signing Sam Foley thought it was a worthy cause) https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ross-andrew2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Fucking nonsense. Another shite late twenties reserve player and this time from the league below us? Whats more, he is a left winger! We have literally just signed a left winger in Lawless who is 4 times the player this guy is. We have nobody in the squad who can play right wing effectively and sign THIS? Considering the ramifications of us making an arse of this season, this has to be the worst transfer window I can ever remember. Not only that, but its aslap in the face of our support.-1 points
-
This transfer window has been an utter joke. This guy Nolan is a left back/centre back, so exactly like Rickie Lamie & Nathan McGinlay and we now have Jake Carroll fit. Roberts? A left winger like Steven Lawless, Seedorf & Hastie. Plus Semple has been recalled from Cove so he can spend the next 3 months sitting in the stand here doing nothing Foley? The fact St Mirren have WILLINGLY given him to us tells you all you need to know We now have a seriously bloated squad of 35! Harry Smith looks handy, Kelly is a fantastic signing as will Lawless be when (if?) he gets fit. But thats it. 3 good signings, 3 seemingly poor, and still in this bloated mess of a squad, we do not have a Right Winger, a Striker who could be a threat or a Midfielder capable of scoring a goal.-1 points

Im amazed they signed him in the first place he was generally pish for us.-1 points

We’re going to need an open top bus in may... Not because we’ll win anything, we’ll just need to ship out 28 from 35 bodies at the end of the season. In all seriousness, great job Motherwell. Clearly improved the first team, moved on bodies and brought real pedigree and excitement during January. I for one am excited about the strategic prospect of our B squad entering the pyramid. At this rate, we might meet each other in league 1.-5 points
