Thought this deserved a thread of its own..... Was really pleased for Keith last night that we managed to get the win that kept all the fans behind and in great spirits to give him the send of he deserved. You could see and hear it was a very emotional experience for him and his whole family. There can be a lot of cheap talk thrown around when it comes to football players about who is a club legend and who is not, but for me I dont think there can be any doubt that Keith falls into that category. For a player to spend almost his entire playing career at one club in the modern era is almost unheard of these days and for me, over the last 20 or so years Keith has been Mr Motherwell. Coming in as he did in the administration season with the likes of Hammel, Faddy, Pearo et al, he quickly grasped the ethos of our club and became very much part of the fabric of it. For someone who wasnt brought up Motherwell fan, the fact that he and his whole family now are, says a lot. During his time at the club we have enjoyed 4 Cup finals, 2 League Runners Up spots and 8 European qualifications, including playing in the Champions League. To be club captain for such a large part of that success, says lot about him. The fact that he is also a damn fine human being, means he will be sorely missed by many at the club, including the fans. Ultimately, all good things must end and he is off to further his career in a new role. I for one, wish him all the best and thank him for some wonderful memories. ALL THE BEST "KEEF"6 points

Maybe. There's certainly some characters on this forum who've not been as active since the full-time whistle last night as they would have been had we lost.2 points

I'm with you grizzly but unfortunately I think your wrong. Some strange people in our support as in life. Booing from some last night at half time was unbelievable. Saw a couple up at dingwall on Saturday who will make themselves ill by their shouting pish at our boss. Never saw them at end of both games funnily enough.2 points

So let me get this right. We finish top half,no less than fifth, get into Europe and folk are still greeting people really need to get over this anti Alexander when it's clearly working. If it wasn't working then out the door but clearly it is. Bailed out the cup by the worst red card of the season, finished higher than a few clubs with bigger budgets aswell.Whats even worse on Twitter reading so called fans a few games ago hoping we got beat and Alexander got sacked beyond a shameful. Saved us last season from horrible mess Robinson left us in and get us in Europe top half finish following season and folk still crying. God help him if he hasn't spilt the old firm next season then eh?.2 points

Sad to see Grimmy go. He understood our club and our community because he came from a very similar town / background. He came across as a thoroughly decent human being. He shared in some really good moments with the club, in particular the 2 cup finals in one season. Best wishes to him for whatever the future holds.1 point

As we are all Well fans the last 2 games have been a pleasant turnaround from a brutal 2022 so far. Last night was prime example of why we love the Well, nail-biting from start to finish and a happy ending. Also 4700 Well fans there which was great . Just because we won last 2 games I don't think it should be case of saying to those that doubt Alexander (including myself) "Ha Ha, you got it wrong". There has been plenty legitimate and valid points for criticising GA which have been discussed lots so I won't bore everyone again. However I also said I am willing to give him a transfer window as I feel penny has dropped for him on various fronts. He needs to improve areas of the pitch urgently like Left-Back, Centre Half and another Striker. At Centre-Half Lamie probably away (though full credit for great attitude since January and 2 HUGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE goals), Bevis is fine if played there, Johansen has went downhill after promising start and Ojala is huge mystery as now looks like a liability, his run last night for goal reminded me of Peter Reid trying to catch Maradona at 1986 World Cup!!! Think we all need to unite and see how the new squad looks for next season and hopefully a dream of reaching Conference League groups. Lets return in October and see where we are. If big improvement we are all happy, if things not going well then a decision needs to be made. COYWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW1 point

The 2 big questions for me are 1) What have we achieved ? absolutely brilliant Graham, well done sir 2) how have we achieved it ? eye bleeding at times Graham, must improve. Job for this season done, please improve the 'how' next season.1 point

Since he left us White has developed into a regular 4 goals a season striker.1 point

There aren't really many youths missing out. Cornelius has had his breakthrough season and is a real first team player now and Max Johnson has been playing for QOTS. Sam Campbell on the bench last night is only 18, it's not like we have 19 ,20, 21 year olds kicking their heels, most of our best prospects in that age bracket left for transfer fees. Dundee United have been played a few teenagers recently and hopefully we will take that approach with the next crop of youths who the club rate very highly. Since the January restart I had the impression that Alexander was less than 100% committed to the job and might have been looking back down south. The next few months are vital in terms of bringing in the correct quality of players, doing our best in Europe and being ready to compete for top 6 and Hampden from August rather than the transitional start we had to put up with this season. Hopefully he is focussed on that.1 point

I would find it hard to believe any true Well fan whether you like Alexander or not would want us to lose last night and miss out on Europe.1 point

I'm with you on that Grizzly. Last night we won because Hearts were understrength. Many forget that we were also considerably understrength too. It was certainly a game of 2 halves last night and at 8.30 I'd have happily settled for a draw. Our entire defence was well.....shocking in the first half, and I had the fear defensively when KVV came on but he was the catalyst for improvement and we tightened up at the back after the break. Credit to the management for changing things though and to the team for showing fight and determination. I was concerned that we sat so deep in the last 20 minutes or so but we restricted Hearts' chances and saw the game out very well. The referee was decent and I've seen far worse but he should have carded Mackay Stevens for a shocking late challenge and could have awarded 3 penalties - at least all were similar challenges and he showed consistency. Pleased that Las ended his last home game on a high. A great night and good to see fans get their reward.1 point

No idea whether he will or not, but it must be some feeling scoring the goal that guarantees your team European football on the same night the one you just signed for is guaranteed relegation.1 point

I've never been a fan of binning the manager this season, but I'll happily admit that this is a debate that is never over. And neither it should be. He's done a great job overall this season. Top six finish, European football secured. Fantastic, and he and the team deserve a lot of credit. But come the end of the season it's done and dusted. Ground zero, so to speak. It's then on him to make some good moves in the transfer market, identify where we've been lacking and address those issues, and the new season is a fresh slate. If we're sitting 9th or 10th in October or November and the style of football and results haven't improved, his results this season will count for nothing.1 point

Great team performance but I went for Cornelius. He covered every blade of grass last night and I saw glimpses of Campbell in his performance. Happy days.1 point

yep, I keep hearing we are only where we are because Aberdeen, hibs etc are poor...they're poor and paying a good bit more than we do.We have been under the same restrictions as other teams because of covid etc so well done everyone at mfc, great atmosphere last night.1 point

I also thought the ref had a good game. We often say that the ref sets the tone in the first couple of minutes… if they give fouls early on for players falling down at the slightest contact, then that’s what happens for 90 minutes. He let things go, and guess what… the players generally got on with it without the cheap falling over.1 point

I have hated watching us most of this season a lot of it has been turgid but even GA's fiercest critic has to give him some credit. Having watched Motherwell for over 40 years I've seen Motherwell teams a damn site better than the current one achieve absolutely fuck all. So for this team to get European football is a huge. Sure we have been helped by the fact 10 of the 12 teams in the SPFL are pish but you can only take on and compete with what is in front of you. For those suggesting we sack GA it would be sheer madness sitting where we are. That said if we continue into next season playing the way we have questions could be getting asked in September / October. However that is a discussion for another day. GA has probably exceeded every target laid in front of him for this season and for that we must acknowledge it and give him credit. I do genuinely want GA to succeed but remain on the undecided bus whether or not next season will see an improvement in the quality of our play. Well Done EVERYONE at the club ...1 point

We'll be in Europe at the same time Aberdeen and Hibs are in the Betfred. We can all be critical of how things have went this season but walking out the 3-2 HIbs game in August absolutely everyone bites your hand off for that outcome. Hopefully the management and players are looking for fourth. I won't be shocked if RC do us a favour but we should have another cup tie attitude on Saturday because looking at our results in Glasgow this season it's very possible.1 point

I see our ex keeper Ross Stewart was on the wrong end of a result at Fir Park this evening.1 point

Great result. Could not bear to watch and just checked the result. Alexander has taken some stick. Correctly so given his 2022 record up until the last few weeks. But by Christ he deserves credit and so do the players. A motley crew but whatever the rumours you don’t not have the teams backing to go on and win 3 crucial games in last month. A lot of criticism about standard of players. Hello… we have Dundee United paying Watt twice what we could. Dundee offering Lamie an extra £70k per annum. We are not going to sign perfect players. Man United cannot do that. I am delighted and praying my passport application is expedited by mid July.1 point
