  1. Or vastly underrated by some. We live in the social media world these days where every player can only be ranked as brilliant or crap. Nuance died with Twitter. It's amazing how all these useless players are so easily spotted by the fans, but manage to fool coaches and managers who have spent their entire adult lives in the professional game and whose livlihood depends on fielding their best available team every week.

  2. Can you provide any evidence of the club being run in an amateurish way, other than just your opinion? It seems to have become a trope on here and has been accepted as fact. Ive never run my own business. But Jim McMahon and Derek Weir both have and been relatively successful. McMahon has also been on the board and been chairman during what most would describe as being a fairly successful period with high league finishes, cup finals and European qualifications. We have also broke even during that period which is no mean feat. I get that we are in a period of transition and uncertainty spooks people, and of course we would all prefer to have a permanent CEO and Chairman in place so we can get some stability going forward. But to suggest that we are utterly rudderless when we have someone with pretty decent business acumen in place doing the job on an interim basis doesnt bare scrutiny. People complained about communication, and we got it. People complained about the lack of a strategy and it was explained. I do wonder at what point these guys throw in the towel as they cant seem to win.

  3. Theres a bit of sense in most of your posts MJC, much more than many give you credit for, but you're wide of the mark with this statememt. Our club is not in financial trouble (the annual accounts tell us that) and we're not basket cases like the 2 Dundee clubs. We have cash in the bank with some back up available, if and when needed, through the Society. Irrespective of what we think of the video, this campaign is to raise fresh funds to help us compete with the likes of Killie, Ross County, St Johnstone and St Mirren, which we're currently struggling to do. We're in no danger of going into administration any time soon.

  4. The existing business model is broadly accepted to be flawed as its dependant on cup runs and selling players. The club are working hard to find alternative funding channels, meanwhile running the club with a level of due diligence to ensure we don't over spend. Given there's no single multi million investor willing to let the club drain their riches I think fair play to the club for looking for alternatives. I'm not a fan of the video but I'm supportive of us trying new things, some will work, some won't. Full marks to the club for trying to move us forward.

  6. Watched the latest video this morning. Iv got to say i was doubtful when i saw the add but i would encourage all the doubters to watch what the chairman is saying. 2.5 million views, more well society sign ups in the last few days & 10 noted expressions of interest in investing in the club. Couple that with reports of our wee 'tin pot' video making the media in the USA & Australia then it seems like we are doing something right.

  7. So when you look at a player and think he's pish, you accept the guys ok cos the manager thinks so. Football is littered with ex managers who thought they knew what a good player looks like. If I accept you view I'll need to reassess my view of Bob Malcolm , John Henry, Joe McLeod , John Davies, Derek Townsley etc ... They must all have been good cos the manager and coaches picked them and played them and they all knew best cos they'd spent a lifetime in the game.. I don't need to be a window cleaner to know a windows clean and I don't need to be a football manager to know a players pish.

  8. The video was not an example of the club being run in an amateurish fashion. It was part one of a fund-raising strategy, it has created debate and has generated interest in the club. Ten offers of investment within the first few days seems like a good return to me. The timing is also great as there are no games at the moment and it takes the spotlight off the transfer window too. The 'failure' of the club to appoint a CEO came about due to exceptional circumstances - none of the four shortlisted candidates took up the role for a variety of reasons. McMahon stated that he had never experienced this in his professional life. I almost agree with you about the recruitment side of things as there is a lack of clarity - is it all on Nick Dawes? How much input does SK have. Ultimately, the club employed a professional agency to make the video, professional people within the club interviewed professional candidates for the CEO role and our recruitment is in the hands of a professional person. No amateurs were involved as far as I can tell.

  9. The chat around the video is ridiculous. Some folk can't see past their own ego.

  10. Sorry for him personally but will be glad if thats him played his last ever game for us. Vastly overrated by many of our fans.

  11. Does this negativity permeate through your daily life or is it just all things Motherwell that brings you down? The club is clearly reasonably well run, the team less so this season but hopefully things are looking a little brighter. The video was produced by a top agency, not just thrown together, not everyone likes it but it seems to have caused a positive stir so maybe some people know more about these things than us.

  12. Can I provide any evidence of the club being run in an amateurish fashion? Yes, I most certainly can. The video that we’re talking about on our official media platforms begging Taylor Swift for money for starters. You want evidence of our professional top flight football club being run in an amateur fashion then there’s Exhibit A right there. Then there’s the failure to appoint a replacement for Burrows who left eleven months ago. Our transfer and scouting system is diabolical and yet our club who are forever pleading poverty have people in post who are happy to squander whatever meagre resources we have on the dross we signed last summer. That enough for now or would you like me to go on?

  13. Good job this website wasn't about in the 90's, club legend Dougie averaged less than 6 a season as a striker.

  14. There was an offer a few years back and there's some interest now. The board are keen for the Well Society to keep their rights. Happy to explore a shared joint model and if an out and out offer came through to own it would be put to the society. All quite sensible stuff really.

  16. I think any campaign that can get traction like this has must be the envy of every other club whether its cringworthy or not if it had just been bland it would have disappeared without a trace i for one hope its sucessful and we get some serious investers looking to fund our wee club. Because the current model is not providing enough funds to keep us competetive and there's only one way that ends.

  17. Kettlewell said that Bair would be a project, I took from that that he would be coached through the season to improve parts of his game so that he would be closer to the finished product as the season goes on. I think he got more game time than expected early on due to injuries. But watching his link up play, then his assists and now his goals I think the project is a success.

  18. I dont think anyone is getting giddy about him. Just a few of us stating that he has done better than we thought he would. Its not that hard to do.

  19. I rate Bair more than you do but think you've been pretty reasoned and fair about your view on him. Do find the way this has been worded a little odd though. He'd already scored 5 by the 2nd of January, its obviously entirely possible he doesn't score another goal this season but he's already been about twice as productive as you had predicted so far.

  20. The chairman saying "it has worked well" for me that speaks volumes of how the club is run if he thinks releasing that video was a good move. Yes millions of views online but only because it's cringeworthy, if it was meant as a professional pitch to attract potential investors it's a serious own goal. He mentions other clubs and individuals putting in millions each year, I very much doubt they are doing that without return, Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen are much bigger clubs than us, with more potential to make money, what could an investor hope to get in return from a club of Motherwells size. For me nobody is going to keep pumping money into a club year after year to keep it running with no return, especially if they don't have a controlling interest in tbe club.

  21. Took him to 24, but he's into double figures now. We'll all have our opinion on how good he is, same as every other player we sign, absolutely no issues with that. Stats may prove he's not the greatest striker to grace Fir Park - they also show only 10 guys have scored more goals than him so far this season. They certainly don't suggest he's incapable of playing above amateur level or isn't good enough to be regarded as a footballer.

  22. As someone who was similarly critical of Bairs signing (more so the length of contract than the actual taking a punt on him) Im more than happy to put my hands up and say he has proved me wrong already. Is he the level of striker we should be looking at as a first team pick? Probably not. Is he a decent squad level player who will chip in a number of goals and assists off the bench or during an injury crisis? Absolutely. He has 5 goals and a number of assists in half a season, where he has had limited game time in a team that couldnt buy a win in 3 months. If we can strengthen the squad and get some consistency of performance/results and confidence within the squad grows, he will do ok. If we are seriously interested in Main though, he would be behind him so we should be looking to move on Obika and Shaw. Edit: Whether you rate Bair or not, he has proven he is clearly better than Canadian semi-pro level. So a little credit shouldnt be too hard to offer his way.
