  1. Yes. I normally leave it first gear AND apply the hand brake. sorry, could stop myself. I blame Grizzly!

  2. And I'd rather have Bair than Obika, but it shouldn't have to be a choice between a player with a stinking scoring record and one with a bad injury history, but here we are because we signed both.

  3. Not in a system that requires your wing backs bombing up and down the park. O'Donnell on one wing and Halliday on the other, jesus wept..

  4. You seriously think we've not been trying ?? Big gamble makes it sound like they've all been sitting about going "Should we sign a striker for saturday or do you think it can wait til Monday ??" Seriously, get a grip 🙄

  5. No, but you can implement strategies to mitigate against the risk of non-contact soft tissue injuries in training and during games. Strength and conditioning training in addition to footballing drills is one key example, and another could be recovery methods or nutrition. I'd say that there's a lot more to it than just accepting that certain types of recurring injuries across an entire squad are part and parcel of the game. At the very least, we could avoid signing players with known injury records. I'd rather have an average player on the park than a good player permanently on the treatment table. Monty's previous hammy injury record was known, as was Obika's.

  9. Except we failed to understand that Biereth could've been offski after 6 months if he did well, which has left us relying on a player who was originally signed to be our 3rd or 4th choice striker. We've no other options because, Biereth aside, our striker recruitment has been far from good enough. So, if we want to naively rely on quality loanees, then we need a Biereth lined up every window. We can't allow ourselves to be blindsided at the same time as we’re trying to develop projects and nurse crocks. It's hopeless.

  11. As much as it pains me to say it, he's worked daily with the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou. He's spent his time there training with a much higher quality of player than you'd find at Fir Park, and Norwich City as well. He's also spent his time there getting accustomed to life and how to deal with living as a player at a big club. At Norwich, he could have been wandering the city without many people bothering him. Not the case at Celtic, and it won't be the case if he ends up at a club like AC Milan or whoever picks him up this summer. Yeah, he's always going to be a talent. That doesn't go away. He was talented when he left Motherwell. Add in the above and he leaves Celtic as a better player than he was when he arrived there.

  12. Correct. But that's the risk a club runs when it puts all its eggs in a loanee-shaped basket to make up for its permanent strikers being crocks or crap. No club should do business in such a way that it makes them reliant on loanees; it's too risky. Loanees should be seen as temporary solutions and bonuses.

  15. Bair is an average player who always seems to be fit.......

  16. Very unfortunate for Montgomery but having played for 2 clubs is irrelevant, he was never getting into the Celtic team anyway and with his injury he's not going to be fit till May at the earliest so his season is done. He's a Celtic player so get him back to them to look after and off our wage bill we've enough injured players of our own to deal with.

  17. That's a bastard for Montgomery and us. I hope we're able to cancel the deal. Sounds harsh, but we're carrying enough of our own injured players without taking on someone else's and we need any available cash for bodies on the park.

  18. We've got Gent, Halliday and Nicholson that can operate on the left side of the team in various full back/wing back combos. O'Donnell can play there at a push too. So while it would be a blow, it's not as bad as if we ended the window with one striker. On a related note, I heard the other day that hamstring injuries in the EPL are up around 47% this season. There is a theory that VAR is responsible to some degree. Partly, because players are having to stop for a few minutes multiple times per game and stand around without warming up again, and partly because games are being extended to 100+ minutes putting extra strain on tired muscles and ligaments.

  19. Montgomery getting injured is exactly why we can't rely on clearing out 6 to sign KVV - we need to sign 2 strikers so we have cover. The way this season is going we would sign KVV and he would do his knee in training. As much as I 'd like the big man back, we need depth.

  20. If reports are to be believe and Montgomery is out, I suspect we’ll see Gent moved back to LWB and Miller/Halliday/Nicholson (whoever is fittest) coming in. I’d bite your hand off for a point given the state we’re in with injuries and incomplete recruitment. Would love to know what the plan is if Bair gets injured at some point today/tomorrow!? Hope to hell we have one….. Next 3 are huge, could really be doing with taking 5/6 points minimum. Particularly when you look at how tough the 3 after that are (on paper at least).

  26. Nothing as good as some of the stuff posted above. I have had a soft spot for Motherwell since 1973ish. I am a Sunderland fan - you may have guessed by my nick. Anyway my Dad worked away in Glasgow when I was a kid. I used to go to Roker Park and hear the chants of Celtic/Rangers from the Fulwell end, so I asked my Dad to get me a scarf next time he was in Glasgow. He bought me a Motherwell scarf! (I still have it somewhere safe - just wish I knew where!) It took me fifty years to finally visit Fir Park and see a game. I've now been twice, here's a few shots from my last trip up, family day V Ross County 3-3. My first game was last season the 3-0 win over Livingston. Hope to be up soon, I have a mate who follows St Mirren and we hope to get to the next meet.
