  1. Given that fan conduct is a hot topic this week, you'd think that at least one outlet would question Celtic fans proudly singing IRA songs in a City which was the location of a high-profile terrorist incident. Not a peep though šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

  4. Talking of disgraceful fans. Celtic fans were singing hatred songs and having offensive lyrics, glorifying terrorists at villa match but Scottish press don't report it.

  5. I cant understand why , if it was so bad, why SK didn't flag it to Caldwell. All the club would then need to do would be position stewards in the main stand who could eject those involved. When I was at work I used to complain about staff not flagging problems in the workplace until something blew up. Then its a case of trying to get to the bottom of "he said / she said". I told my managers and staff if they wanted something done about issues between staff to flag it up the minute it happens , not 8 months later when someone wants to retrospectively raise a grievance when no bugger knows fuck all about it.

  6. The whole thing has been a clusterfuck from the club. I worked in HR for years. The first thing you do is do an investigation before issue a sweeping statement putting suspicion on everyone. What should have happened is 1. SK should have advised BC when he first became aware of personal abuse. 2. BC should have told SK what support and mitigations would be put in place to ensure he stayed as manager if that is what he truly wanted. Those mitigations should have been a statement issued from the club along the lines "the club have been made aware of personal abuse being directed at SK from a small number of fans located in XXXXX. The club will not tolerate this. Stewards and Security have been alerted and going forward any supporters found to be carrying out such abuse will be ejected from the ground and temporary bans put in place. Repeat offenders will have lifetime bans imposed". but no they just issue a statement saying we have regrettably accepted SK resignation because of abuse from fans. A curse on all our supporters allowing a media feeding frenzy to develop. If the club did offer this solution to SK and he still wanted to resign they should have said so, along the lines of "the club have been made aware of personal abuse being directed at SK from a small number of fans located in XXXXX. The club will not tolerate this. The club offered to put mitigations in place to give SK assurances that this will not go on un-challeged. SK has refused such an offer an we have regrettably accepted his resignation".

  7. The lack of empathy and social conscience is staggering. I just listened to the Caldwell interview. This is not some made up shit. He looked genuinely saddened by the whole sorry affair. Not spin, not propaganda. One of his hard working work colleagues has had to resign because the fans that are there to support turned on him. We are talking about a guy who was coming into his work at 6.30am every morning and leaving at 7pm every night quiting because the pressures of the job has taken it's toll. His crime was to have hit a rocky spell in both results and performance. Like every football manager he has paid a heavy price. This is not a man who has landed on his feet. He has lost his job. He has not played some kind of tactical blinder as I have read more than once on this forum over the last few days. He will almost certainly be going through a difficult time just now both mentally and emotionally. He would have to be to walk away from his job in the way he has. The abuse from the fans is real. Not some made up conspiracy against the poor Motherwell fans because they are not fashionable. Just because Celtic and Rangers might be worse, does not make the behaviour of the Motherwell fans acceptable. I was at Perth. I heard it and saw the behaviours for myself. Not a tiny minority but a significant minority if not possibly even a majority. Let's not pretend this is a Kettlewell phenomenon. Baraclough, Robinson, Alexander suffered the very same fate. The icing on the cake for me has been reading on this forum some of the more reasonably minded going to great lengths to justify the fans behaviour and taking the petted lip because the victim of the abuse and the media have dared to even question these behaviours. I have been drifting as a Well fan for a while. I just don't have the sense of pride and identity with the club that I used to have. Age and a changing world view plays a major factor in that l admit. I may well be the one out of step now with the general footballing fraternity but I am happy to be so. I just cannot relate anymore to the attitudes I have seen expressed in recent days. What this incident has proved to me is football fans are generally the same regardless of the club they support. Same attitudes, same mindset just a different coloured flag.

  9. It could be 100% true. The problem is that when you're a football manager, you're going to take abuse from fans (home or away) whatever club you work for.

  10. I decided that day that he was a wanker who wasn't interested in us , he was only biding his time waiting for the call from his favourites.

  12. I think it was a double hit wellgirl. It was actually quite well done. Off the inside of both posts and in. Don't let it get to you. You and I (and a few others) have taken a view over the last few days that has proved to be fairly unpopular. It does not necessary make it wrong but the flack does come with it. It's all part of the discussion.

  13. I'm glad I didn't leave the forum after our mini argument on the ins and outs. Because this we can entirely agree upon.

  14. I can't believe how many people are falling for this " a good manager hounded out by foul mouthed fans" bullshit. SK walked because he was out of ideas, unable to determine his best 11 from what he had available, playing players out of position, non threatening sitting back and hoping something would happen tactics, strange random substitutions, alleged dressing room fallouts, and generally having no plan to turn our form round. So before being punted he walks bleating about alleged personal abuse etc the media take the bait and all of a sudden it's the fans fault and his reputation is clear, the club board and the WS then make it worse by effectively backing up his claims again blaming the fans. So all we've had for days is negative PR and how toxic our support is, not a word about the brutal football SK had us playing. I gave him the benefit of the doubt up to the cup defeat but then the shambles the next week convinced me he had lost the dressing room and was out of ideas. He's gone so we move on and hopefully get a manager in that sets us up to actually try to win games again, but given the PR disaster the board and the WS failed to avoid I hope they get their act together in choosing the right manager to take the club forward, time will tell.

  19. As I’ve already said the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. There probably was some nasty stuff directed towards Stuart Kettlewell. But at the same time he’s probably realised that he’s lost the dressing room and could take us no further. However the media are going to run with the angle and that his departure was solely down to ā€˜abuse’ and will use and play on that to create the impression that it’s all down to that and the fans who ā€˜forced him out’. In this day and age we live in a ā€˜mock outrage culture’ and people like to believe or at least pretend to believe what they are told by those who shout the loudest and who push the furthest. Social media plays a major part in this as just about everyone has access to up to date information about just about everything that goes on in sport and various other aspects of life. If personal abuse was directed at Stuart Kettlewell and his family then as I’ve already said that is shameful, but I just find all this uproar just a little bit unconvincing, to say the least.

  20. Reckon that comment says more about you mate than the board members at the time. Why wouldn't they fly the Union Flag?

  21. To be fair to folk on here I haven't really seen much of the online abuse it's folk mostly moaning about the line ups and tactics that's about it really. The twitter the club official one is a different level of abuse some total rockets on that. Look this chapter is closed I wish him well the when he took over from Hammell when we had Furlong and Johnston as attacking wing backs and KVV it was truly magical we were really good to watch made you want to go to the football and couldn't wait until next game. So onto the next chapter onwards and upwards.

  22. Well done to our CEO for coming out and sharing what he could with a large degree of empathy. it’s not overly difficult to imagine comments and sentiment that would have been shared and overheard by family and loved ones at games . accept it for what it is, wish SK best in the future and look forward as a club to our next chapter

  23. At that time tho, our Board would have been populated by 60 somethings Protestant businessmen and am sure the Union Flag was flown on matchdays back then (take from that what you like).

  28. Let's not forget the almost unique situation that we are not in a desperate situation, frantically trying to avoid relegation. We are therefore not looking for an escape artist. Personally I'd like to see someone with a wealth of English Div1/2 experience/contacts and a reputation for attacking football and developing younger players. Hammell was the 'easy' choice but a gamble, and not ready. Kettlewell was the 'easy' choice, but had failed at Ross County - which should have had alarm bells ringing. No need to rush into this. Take your time MFC and get it right please.

  31. No doubt someone will ask Brendan Rodgers his opinion on Kettlewell’s ā€˜treatment’ in the pre-match press conference….while conveniently forgetting that Celtic fans were singing songs about him being shot dead by the IRA when the left the last time. But like I said we are unfashionable so therefore fair game to the media.

  32. I’ve watched Motherwell for 50yrs and I think this will fall on deaf ears. It has been worse a great number of times compared to now as well but obviously it’s been highlighted this week. i just have never got the booing? The proper effort and foamy mouthed lunacy it takes to do it must be exhausting. anyway I’m going along on Sunday and I will not be booing and I very much doubt I’ll be cheering either.

  33. Also, if the "personal abuse" at the cup game was really so bad, to the extent that the manager was on the brink of walking away, why didn't Caldwell mention it in his video update released a couple of days later?

  36. Honestly, couldn't care less about rangers or celtic...but I would care if that walloper Lennon was anywhere near our Club, his managerial record is stinking and he's an idiot, who seems to relish in falling out with people.
    1 point
  37. Lennon will be another version of Alexander. He'll come in and gradually fall out with everyone over the space of 18 months - 2 years and leave the place a complete disaster behind him. Oh, and he threatened to have his partner stabbed. So there is that. We shouldn't be entertaining the idea of him even in the slightest.

  39. Scunnered with this saga already. Media can get fucked, nothing but reptiles, Kettlewell has played a blinder in waving the "poor me" flag, sums him up, zero accountability.
    1 point
  40. I never said it did. However the ones who are should be called out. I said after Alexander we would struggle to attract good managers to the club and we have struggled. Now it's happened again. What does the future hold for us when managers are rewarded with hatred for what is to all extent and purposes, relative success? This has become a trend and if it continues we are going to be the worse for it.
    1 point
  41. The fact that some people can handle it should not diminish the fact that some people have had enough. I said it a few months ago. I was a few feet away from someone screaming at Spittal for taking a corner because he was moving to Hearts, Blair could hear him and then the fan wanted to fight other fans for being challenged and then someone else wanted to fight him. If people think we dont have a small minority of people who go too far - we absolutely do and in my view, it's not on Stuart - it's on them. You dont know what someone's last straw moment is - speaking from experience here. It could be nothing to some of us but you dont know what someone's tipping point is.
