  1. Paton changed the game for us. He was excellent, had composure when we were lacking it, and it brought the other midfielders into the game. I might still be high on that last minute goal, but I think I love him.

  2. I only watched the last 30 minutes and judging by this thread it’s a good thing as it sounds like we were woeful. The 30 minutes I saw though it looked like we dominated. Spittal setting up Paton for a 97th minute winner, you okay Steelboy?

  3. Particularly as he's 'shite', 'a lazy signing' and 'not SPL standard'.....

  4. I'm a big critic of his but fair play to big Mugabi today he won everything and did nothing silly.

  5. Better at what? He got a chance to start and didn't do anything, thought Bair was stronger in second half

  6. Unbelievable!! My analysis tomorrow as literally heading to a surprise 60th for a ex workmate who is a killie fan!! Lovely

  7. Mugabi would be on the way out the minute we have cover for me, he is not someone we can secure our future with.

  10. After the disappointment in Paisley and the depressing news since on the injury front, that last minute winner was quite the buzz. Credit to Kettlewell for altering things at ht after a dreadful performance to that point. Paton’s quality combined with the change in shape to a box in midfield gave us absolute control of the 2nd half. It’s evident we are lacking quality in key areas and Kettlewell’s decision to only use one sub speaks volumes. If we can get a couple of quality and reliable additions this week I think we’ll be in very decent shape. Aside from the quality of both goals the biggest positive today was the character of the team. The likes of Casey and Spittal drove us on and look like real leaders to me. Finally, no harm to Killie but I love getting one over an in-form/fancied McInnes team. We seem to have quite a knack in doing so.

  12. I know what a fantastic second half. Managers changes and Paton match winning performance saw to that. Oh and watching McInnes going into meltdown in front of us made it even better.

  14. With that first half still fresh in the memory I almost can't believe I'm saying this but.....I think we deserved to win that game! Obviously the first half was very poor. Really hardly showed anything, only remember one real chance and Kilmarnock were well on top. Second we were better, I wouldn't say great, but we improved and Kilmarnock went off the boil and between those two facts we managed to start to dictate the game. There was still a lot of be desired in terms of performance but we got confidence from the goal and Kilmarnock sat too deep and I think made it a bit easier for us than if they'd stepped up the pitch a bit. We missed a penalty, Vassell missed a sitter and then we scored with the last kick of the ball so I suppose either team could have won it but I think we just about edged it. Felt a bit sorry for Slattery having to wait so long to take the penalty, certainly makes it harder for the taker. I wouldn't want to depend on Casey and Paton for winning goals too often which brings us to the forwards. Bair, just don't see it. He's a big athletic lad but just doesn't seem to have the instinct for football. Pace and physique only gets you so far and it looks to me like Bair doesn't really know what to do. Thought Kettlewell was playing favourites today with the substitution. Efford wasn't great either but he at least got into some decent positions to receive the ball. It worked out for the manager today and we carried a wee bit luck but there was something about that substitution that just gave you the impression that the manager seeing things slightly distorted from reality. Fair play to Harry Paton though, think it was the Queens Park match where he came on and did really well and changed things and today he was our best player.

  15. Never mind me and what I post as an anonymous internet forum member. We got a really good win today, focus on that.

  16. This aged well. Not only did I get the subbed player wrong but Paton goes and scored the winner.

  18. In fairness he started off the move for the winning goal with a lovely pass out wide. His hold up play definitely improved in the 2nd half too. Not saying he's the answer to all our problems but there's something to work with and I think Kettlewell has shown enough in his time in charge to earn our backing

  19. I love it when you deliberately don't look at a match thread until after the game to see certain folk getting a whole load of egg on their faces.

  20. Spittal had a nightmare up until then but credit to him for digging deep and getting the assist. Paton was excellent. Kilmarnock never got to grips with our half time adjustment and he used the space well.

  21. I only saw the second half. Paton never stopped moving for the 45 mins. He was around our own box for passes out and around theirs for passes in. Great composure on the ball for the finish and massive credit to Spittal (another one our fans under-rate) for getting to the bye line to put the ball in.

  22. Kettlewell giving Bair a 2-year deal is really going to come back and bite him and us. The guy is, unfortunately, utter garbage at every aspect of the game. He has zero redeeming qualities or ability. It’s the most ridiculous decision imaginable to have offered a known dud anything longer than a short-term deal. Thank fuck for our midfielders being pretty decent because we have zero proven or fit strikers.

  26. I wouldn't put him in the same category as Obika or Souare. No manager can legislate for reckless tackles.

  27. defo got alarm bells increasing in noise over recent weeks. Other than Wilkinson all our summer signings have had injury issues - thats one heck of a risk, particularly when the strategy is to have a small squad. Unless we have more youngsters who we can take a risk with then we need to bring in some quality over the next week, which is likely to be more loanees.

  28. It isn't hard to send out a couple of tweets each week, or even just post a schedule somewhere (jeez, send us a list and we'll post it). As such, my assumption is that the club deliberately doesn't want us to know much about these games. Maybe they have a reason, but it beats me. This, along with a refusal to post normal highlights of any game, seems to be a remnant of the previous guys whole deal about engagement and all that shite. It's nice to attract attention and new fans, but maybe throw a bone to the existing ones? I like the videos we currently do as well, but there must be room for both.

  29. The best thing about Alan Campbell is his attitude. He may not feature much for Luton this season if the manager prefers other players. But he wont let it get him down. He will focus on the next challenge and take it from there. I liken him very much to John McGinn. I remember one match at Easter Road wee Al had him in his pocket. McGinn was always a good player, but I never thought for a minute he would captain a Premiership club and be Scotlands most important player. Not saying wee Al can reach that level, but there are parallels there and it wont be for the lack of trying.

  30. He seemed to do ok when he was playing but I saw he tended to be dropped to the bench for bigger games or games against teams whose midfielders were more mobile. I’d love to see him play too but I think it’ll be few and far between. I think mid table championship is his level which is no slur on him at all, I doubt there’s any current spl midfielder who could perform in the English top league.

  31. 100%. There's a real danger here of throwing the baby out with the bathwater with regard to some posters. To sign one player with a questionable injury record is a fair enough risk but to do it with 2 or perhaps 3 is questionable. Obika should have been a known injury risk with his past hamstring problems but to give him a 2 year contract and then he's sidelined until December with .........his hamstring. Well. Pape Souare, a player with another worrying injury record is also out for a few weeks (we've heard nothing about his injury). It happens once you're unlucky, but twice? If you have a huge squad thats less of a problem, but if your reducing squad size then its much more of a risk. The next few days will be huge for us and may well define our season. Alarm bells aren't ringing for me but they are tinkling.

  32. Extremely poor show from our club. Total lack of communication. I know the Comms team hasn't been replaced but its still poor for a number of reasons. Firstly, it denies our young lads a modicum of support and therefore affects their development; secondly it denies the club an admittedly very modest income; and finally it denies our whole support information on our youth team. Not good enough. .

  34. On the subject of Killie this Swedish team Aberdeen are playing have a top class 4G pitch which the teams are actually able to play football on. If the league can't force Killie and Livi to put down grass surely they could make them use plastic that isn't utterly shite. The competitive and financial advantage the two plastic teams get from their shite pitches is a direct disadvantage to us yet we seem to do nothing about it.

  35. Aye, slagged off by the typical negative Nancy's in our support. I thought both were very solid in their first season. They're exactly the kinds of players we should be signing. That's our level. But, the point I'm making is that the calibre of players we've signed this year is down on previous seasons. And by that, I mean their form and track records before coming here. When we signed McGinn and Spittal, I looked at their previous records and reckoned there was a better-than-average chance of them succeeding here. I'm not saying the same about the guys we've signed so far. There are. But that doesn't negate the point that signing someone with the track record of a Theo Bair to a two-year deal, no less, is a relatively new low for our club. And by "the same old posters," I will assume you don't mean me because I've had no reason to doubt our signings for the most part in recent years. This summer is different. We're signing what can only really be described as losers to this point. Guys who aren't good enough for St Johnstone, and in Obika, we signed a striker who scored one solitary goal for us last season. As I mentioned, in the past, we'd be grabbing guys like Bair and Obika on six-month deals at the tail end of the window or in January to make up the numbers (in Obika, we did exactly that last season). These are now players who look like they'll feature fairly prominently for us this season, and that worries me. Yeah, I get all that. You're acting as if I'm new to this team. I'm not. I've been watching them since the mid 80's. And at absolutely no point have I mentioned buying instant success. That's just stupid. What I'm saying, and what absolutely no one seems to be willing to accept, is that the players we've signed this summer have track records that strongly suggest they'll accomplish the square root of fuck all at Motherwell. We've seen guys like this come through the doors before, and they usually do nothing before leaving quietly after six months to a year. The only difference this year is that they're not here for six months to a year. And they're the best we have on the books, which is as depressing as it gets. I'm usually a "glass half full" guy, but honestly, watching how we're playing at the moment and the unimaginative signings we're making has me worried. It's as simple as that. And I know, everyone else is happy to give these guys until January to show us that they can defy their recent track records (or, in the case of Bair, completely turn his entire professional career on his head), which is fine. I don't think they'll accomplish much, and I'm thoroughly uninspired by our signings so far. That's allowed, I think.

  36. Spittall and McGinn were regularly slagged off as useless in their first season, so not sure that is a good measure of player quality. Same for Goss who many fans were saying was no big loss in the summer. There are countless examples of players we have signed taking a few months to settle in, but every August we see the same old posters rolling out the same tired script. I can only imagine how bad it would be if we'd lost a league match this season. Part of the fun of watching a team like ours is seeing new players and youngsters develop over the course of a season. That is never a straight line progression. If you want a team to buy instant success then Motherwell is not for you. Even Chelsea are struggling with that approach. Grab a beer (or beverage of choice) and enjoy the ride. It's why we love the game.

  37. Claret shorts a must in my opinion. I would love a style similar to the ancell babes one with claret stripe in middle and also amber shorts. Obviously I wasn't around then and majority of photos in my dad's scrapbook were in black and white but it did look good. For away strip anything similar to away one we had in 1977 where it was white with claret and amber stripe down one side with claret shorts and white socks. I got that strip for doing well in primary 1. Sadly no longer have it which I am gutted about as might still have fitted us!! Lol

  40. The Club is and has been rudderless for quite some time. Flow was a breath of fresh air over the years, and that hard work papered over the many cracks, but he eventually left before the Club tainted him or he'd had enough, and now we're here. History is/could be repeating itself and will continue to do so. We either need a relegation reboot or an ambitious and intelligent CEO to turn us inside out and start afresh.

  41. What a feckin long winded whinge you really do go Into meltdown mode over things, okay so your not impressed by our recent signings, fair enough just say that then and move on to your next debating project. When you support Motherwell every season is an adventure will the players signed be sugar or shite, will we win anything, stay in the league, unearth a 29 goal a eason star etc etc, you pay your ticket money and take a chance. So just enjoy it we've been doing okay in the top league for 38 years now, loads of European tours, a few cup finals, a champions league spot so let's see how the season pans out and have this debate in January or next summer when we are entering year 39 as a top league side.
