  1. Your post summed up how I've been feeling for a few years and interesting how it has generated similar responses. Been following since early 70s when living in EK, been in Clacks for 35 years now, thats been a lot of 80 mile round trips (although at least I'm closer to Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen ๐Ÿคฃ). We had 2 season tickets in the family, both lapsed, and increasingly its only to meet up with great folks I've met over the years that keeps me going, but not as frequently as before. I don't blame any one thing for this; it's many things from overall state of Scottish Football, my utter contempt for the Old Firm, the constant stream of loan players and a lack of quality and entertainment, while understanding our finances, the bile that occasionally surfaces when things go wrong. I've had some great times and experienced great moments in my time following, but they are fading into the past and frankly I don't see any of that returning Will still attend fairly regularly but it's now down the order of priorities and I'm past getting angsty about it. Indeed maybe it is just an age thing.

  2. You only had to note who didn't post Tuesday night....just to add I am usually a " happy clapper" but am hacked off going out of cup ...it's on the players for me, not the manager...1st goal is amateur hour... sorry Liam Kelly , you need to sit the next few out , too many errors and too few " big" moments.

  3. Since 1966 for me and I know exactly how you feel. The issues within our Club run a lot deeper than whoever happens to be Manager. My main concern is I don't see anything encouraging me to believe things will improve any time soon. Any enjoyment I get is short term as the next disappointment/crisis is just around the corner. It is a chore to go to some games now and purchasing a Season Ticket fells more like a duty. But you might be right, it could be just an age thing๐Ÿ˜„. The only comfort I take is that fans of other Clubs are experiencing similar issues. Why should that be the case? Perhaps despite ever improving facilities, sport science etc. etc., due to financial constraints and poor governance of the game, the standard we are witnessing is falling season upon season and consideration for fans is a thing of the past.

  4. Agree with this. Personally I think the last half hour v County was a missed opportunity. Then again, if SK had made numerous substitutions on the hour and County had fought back, he would have been slaughtered for throwing away three precious points. Also, as much as some fans have an OTT dislike of Imrie, perhaps he is turning out to be a very good Manager and an astute tactician. Credit where credit's due. He did us over.

  5. I've had 46 years of moving on , it's water off a ducks back within a day. I'm as close to chucking as I've ever been. I am seriously bored watching this year on year whinge about being skint , year on year fuck ups in Cups, year on year having to rebuild from loan deals every 6 months. I seriously question what would I miss. It's OK when you are young there is an air of excitement about it all but as you get older and see the same script year on year the attraction diminishes, well thats how I feel, maybe some other who started watching us in the 1970s still get the excitement.

  6. My first season was 1963 (unfortunately I missed both St John and Quinn). It's very, very difficult to gauge relative levels of playing excellence or even competence over the last sixty years (gulp!) but we were very poor when relegated in the late 60s (watch the YT vid of our defeat at Dens Park that year for example) and when we spent three years in the second division (along with Hearts). Can't imagine what people would have said then if there had been social media. No point in listing the many lows and disappointments since then but I was given hope by last Tuesday night's victory and still think we will scrape up this year. The whole of Scottish football is circling the drain, though, mainly because of the perennial incompetence of our footballing authorities and the colossal finanncial imbalance in the UK caused by the huge amounts of money pumped into the game down south, including gambling industry money (which I find particularly disgusting since it exploits the most desperate in our society). Given that, I'm not sure what kind of quality players we can afford to attract to a fan-owned club of about 4,500 hard-core fans without some rich investor chipping the odd million in. It can work for Hearts because they have a large support but we're trapped like many in an economic bind. Best we can hope for short of a Sugar Daddy is unearthing a Turnbull or Milller occasionally who will then be snapped up for relatively small change when the time comes. Loanees are a short-term option which may tide you over but can bite you on the bum, as we saw with Mika. Perhaps after about forty years in the top flight our time has finally come and the bullet can no longer be dodged but I don't actually think so. I appreciate that the brave souls who travel from far away may be close to breaking point after so much disappointment and some of it may be age-related, although I have two neighbours in the POD who remember Baldy Shaw and Andy Paton and they still seem up for it. Admittedly, they are locals and I doubt I would be travelling regularly down to FP if I lived in Perth or Inverness and we all have to decide what's worthwhile for us and our families. Living in Hamilton, I'll be there next year if we go down, if only to avoid going around Asda on the weekly shop or watching endless re-runs of Midsomer Murders on the TV. Also, I hear the FP chicken chasni pies are good, although at my age I don't think I'll risk them. I think wellgirl's positivity has rubbed off on me too. She seeems to have been through a lot for a a young person already yet still shows great commitment both to her studies and the club. Keep the faith if you possibly can, dossers. You could support West Ham......

  7. You are not wrong and I fully get why those who stick with it do and I'm not trying to piss on their parade. If they still love it as much as they did 40 years ago I'm genuinely jealous. I'm at the stage and have been for 5/6 years where I find it all intensely tedious and predictable and 90% of the time it is predictable. It's not just us that it affects most of the clubs go through the same ups and downs. A league devoid of any real competition and excitement. The product is crap. Where the club are guilty is the constantly depressing whinging about being skint, we are the worst whingers in the league. Clubs like St J , St Mirren , Killie and Ross County are not significantly better off than us financially but by Christ we are world beater at griping about it. I never started supporting Motherwell to concern myself with the clubs balance sheet every year. I feel that's all we exist for is to keep the finances in balance. Anyway I never stared this topic to depress everyone , for those who still love it all , good for you and I hope it stays that way for you.

  8. Hard to put in a long term plan when everytime we hit a bad run some of our fans are screaming for the manager to be sacked. There are clearly changes requiring to be made in the structuring of the club. However, that is now underway. Once that is done hopefully the new incumbents will carry out a root and branch review of where the club is at and make the necessary changes. I get its been a shit couple of seasons and many mistakes have been made. But the darkest night is just before the dawn. We just need to get to the end of this season still in the top flight and take it from there.

  11. Thing is, it's not just our club. I could live with that, having seen us play even worse at times over these many long years. And at least we haven't been relegated, unlike Hibs, Hearts, Dundee, Dundee Utd etc. However, the whole league is now an increasingly bad joke - I mean, how can we be THIS bad this season, and still be above so many other teams? The general quality is in the toilet, "entertainment" is often non-existent (thank heavens for KVV last season) and the spiral is indeed ever-downwards, I just can't see any light at the end of this dismal tunnel.

  12. I've been going to Fir Park since the late 50s and haven't lost my enthusiasm. I still get annoyed at defeats but am no longer surprised. TV has changed the game irreversibly and its a small, very small consolation, that it's nothing to do with me. I'll continue to support MFC come what may.

  13. Maybe we should start a Grumpy Old Men's Club. Meet before home games in Club100 and reminisce about the good old days of the 60's and 70's.

  14. Like a few others who have posted Iโ€™ve been going to Fir Park since the mid to late 1960s. In that time thereโ€™s been lots of great highs and heartbreaking lows. However I canโ€™t help feeling that for a few years now the club has fallen into an ever descending downward spiral. Other than our struggling on the playing side (which inevitably fluctuates from year to year) there are other worrying factors at play. We occupy a ground thatโ€™s been way past its best for a long time now and despite the large amounts of money shelled out on it in recent years it really isnโ€™t fit for purpose anymore. It seems that the club has lacked and probably still does lack vision to deal with this. I think other than Dens Park our ground is the worst in the top flight. We still havenโ€™t appointed a new CEO or found a new chairman and the club has been allowed to become rudderless for too long. By its the own admission the badly needs an injection of new investment. The recent attempt at trying to attract interested parties was a bit amateurish and seems to have been fruitless - other than a few people joining the Well Society. I always looked forward to the cup competitions but our recent performances in these have been mediocre and for the second year running weโ€™ve been knocked out of the Scottish Cup by a team from a lower league. It may well be an age thing but going to games now has become more of a penance than a pleasure.

  15. Talking of an angry man! Maybe you should check your facts. Like him or loathe him, Imrie's record at Morton is decent. Since taking charge in late 2021 he led them clear of probable relegation and then missed the play offs last season on goal difference. Currently in a play off position on a good unbeaten run. Numerous Manager of the Month awards and a win % in excess of 40. In a League where his budget is way below the majority of his opposition. And the team he coaches has just deservedly beaten a team from the Division above. As I said previously, credit where credit's due.

  16. Was he not in charge of Morton when Donnelly scored a late extra time winner at Fir Park to avoid a penalty shoot out? They put up a decent showing that game as well although we did waste lots of chances and dominate possession.

  17. He's turning out to be as big a pain in the arse as a manager as he was a player. Interesting that a relative rookie was able to beat us tactically at the first time of asking when an old hand like Levein couldn't do it in 3 attempts.

  18. A lot of sense in that. We need to toughen up the squad and add more physicality. We need a new goalie, preferably one who is 6-3+ and good in the air. Priority for a rebuild. Short term, give Oxborough the gloves. Central defence? Where do we start? Sadly, I think Butcher is finished at this level. O'Donnell and McGinn don't have the height to play there, although McGinn has been a steadying influence and should retain his place. Both can't play in the same central set up. Mugabi - good in the air but a bit of a bombscare. For me the jury is still out on Blaney and Casey. We need more height and dominance in the middle. A priority for any rebuild. Wing backs - short term, agreed. Midfield we need a hard physical type in there. In Mark McGhee speak "someone to stand on heads". Up front, yes I'd play both Bair and Vale, but please...keep their service on the deck. As my late dad used to say "Its possible to score when you don't have the ball, but its very rare". In any game, its highly unlikely that the opposition will willingly give you the ball; more often than not, you have to fight for possession. As we saw on Friday evening, its all very well having better players but you have to compete and win the ball first. If opponents choose to fire in high balls to your penalty box, you have to have the height and physicality at the back to nullify that. We just didn't. Paton marking Oakley at their first goal??? Win the ball first then feed your better players and let them strut their stuff. Morton would not have bullied teams in the top six or even Livingston the way they did with us.

  19. Very decent goal. Good play by Devine and good finish by Vale. A few things spring to my mind as being obvious about the current team/set up. 1) Kelly - being rested is no bad thing. This happened to Maxwell back in the day and he benefited from it. 2) Centre Halves - we don't have 3 good centre halves - so don't always play 3. 3) Devine and Gent both look very good in the wingback area play them both please. 4) Play both Bair and Vale - BUT when you bring on Obika -one of them needs to come off. They are not a good front 3. We've got more than enough goals in us to progress but we need to move away from being a soft touch for any set plays/crosses.

  20. Of course people are entitled to their opinion but honestly. The he's shite Kettlewell is shite everything is shite wears you down after a while. If I genuinely felt that way about Motherwell I wouldn't support Motherwell. A minority seem to get off on the fact that we are struggling just now . And this isn't being levelled at anyone in particular. But it's horrible posting on here at times. Because that minority seem to have the biggest voice on here a lot of the time.... And that isn't to say that people can't have an opinion. But what is the point of constantly saying Motherwell and Kettlewell are shite. Seriously. We wonder why players lose confidence

  22. The problem is, I don't think a team limping over the line and failing at every significant hurdle is going to prove an attractive asset to invest in come the summer. That's what I mean about sleepwalking into a disaster. Weโ€™re witnessing a long slow decay via this holding pattern we seem to have been in for some time now. I don't think we can afford to use the โ€˜we can't afford to change thingsโ€™ reasoning anymore. We needed an injection of impetus weeks/months ago, but it isn't happening because those running the club are focusing on their exits. I'd do the same if I were them to be fair, but it's a complete mess and we, the fans, will suffer the consequences of ongoing poor decision-making on and off the field. But, maybe I'm wrong.

  23. If Casey fit enough then I would start him ahead of Butcher who just isn't the same player. Miovski will run rings round him. I would also be tempted to start Devine and Jili in wing back roles. Get Halliday back in at expense of Paton. COYW

  24. Aberdeen are just as bad as us, make sure Mijovski is denied any time on the ball and they have nothing to offer, as you say our record up there is decent this game is very winnable.
