  1. Well done Flow and the board. Right decision!

Its a brave decision and like many I didnt think it would happen. Have to say I agree with it even if we were to get relegated. McGhee was taking us nowhere and you never saw him actually inject and change into a game when it wasnt going right. I always thought he had his game plan however if it went astray he didnt do anything to adapt / change it

  2.

We slipped to 11th last season then won 7 out of 9, including wins against 2nd and 3rd placed Aberdeen and Hearts and eventually finished 5th. I'd call that rising to the occasion.

We could go on forever claiming and counter claiming Im still pretty confident we fuck up more often in big games than we win out. You know how good this season is when all we celebrate is the state of the pitch.

  3. We've won 5, drawn 5 and lost 11 of our last 21 league games. Dundee have won once more and drawn one less, which would suggest they are just as dire as us.

I never suggested Dundee were good , I'm just confident in our ability to shoot ourselves in the foot. We rarely rise to any occasion and please don't anyone start by citing the play offs, for every case where we rose to the challenge I could give you 5 we fuck up.

  4. Milo, I remember your posts on here 2 years ago during the run in were equally pessimistic and we got into a debate, that's why it sticks in the mind. It was every game we were going to get cuffed. All it says to me is we lose you get to spout the "I told you so" and if we win its "I'm glad to have been proved wrong, but we were lucky". Seems you are covered either way.

Gaz makes a valid point he finds echoed with me, if following Motherwell only increases your doom, gloom and blood pressure, why bother? You rarely have anything good to say and while this team is far from 2013 or 2007 its not leading many others to reach for their Wilkinson Swords to do damage to their wrists.

I've shared my apathy with the game in Scotland and were we go from here to the extent its affecting my attendance at FP, however I do find your posts bloody irritating.

Supporting Motherwell can be down to a multitude of reasons, from having a visit at your school from Terry Butcher or Faddy as a child, proximity to Fir Park, liking the colours, fancying a player (Las), your favourite uncle being a die hard, to definitely not wanting to have anything to do with those religious focused bile merchants from town. So what's yours? It almost reminds me of the albino monk from the Da Vinci code whipping himself and wrapping his leg in barbed wire.

We can all be critical of this and that. However, after reading these boards for some time now, the only thing we all agree on is 3 points on a Saturday. The merits of who we recruit or release, how the manager sets us up tactically, how the funds are raised off the pitch and how the club is governed will result in a unique response from every one of us.

I thought Leeann left Motherwell in a better place she found it, I felt the league messed up our fixtures through incompetence, I support summer football, I appreciate TV makes up the lions share of our finances so unfortunately as paymaster they get to call the tune, I don't see how McManus ever got a Scotland cap, I would prefer it if the SFA followed the example of Iceland than this super academy pish, I'm glad Robinson is back, Instant replays on the sidelines for major decisions, I wish we move to a new stadium at Ravenscraig and don't support a 16 team top league as yet. You find me one other Motherwell fan that agrees with all of that in addition to 3 points on a Saturday and I'll doff my cap.

I agree with it all .... except the 3 points on Saturday  we are truly dire and I expect the same p1sh Ive watched all season. If we take our Claret and Amber specs off 3 wins since September out of 21 games tells it all.

  5. -----------Samson--------

    -----Ben ---McManus ---Jules----

    Cadden--Lucas--McHugh---Person

    -----------McDonald ------

    ------Moult---Bowman-----

Should be capable of winning more than we lose. Top 5 teams are distances in front, but there's 6 teams we should be beating.

Need a manager that will unleash the team and stop experimenting / playing defensive.

Is that formation supposed to offer comfort ... if it makes you feel better fine the result speak for themselves

  6. I'm sure Mark will remind us in upcoming interviews that his remit is to keep us in the league.

Most irritating manager in my time. His discipline is a disgrace.

While I think there is good team, that should be capable of sixth place, McGhee is totally lost! Tactics and selections this season have been a joke.

There is zero entertainment / value for money and I have to question my season ticket purchase, not to mention, the embarrassment I have for encouraging some of family to take the 5 game package. Have no hope of getting them to return when it's done.

No more excuses, his time is up.

We havent got a good team mate open ur eyes a midfiled of has beens and a central defence that couldnt keep a pig out a tenement , a left back who is done and a keeper that flaps more than Orville Wright

  7. Against the teams round about us ,Kilmarnock at 6th tae Inverness at 12th our results 2 be honest are no better or worse than any of them.

That's the games that will count at the end of the season, if we can keep in there we have a fighting chance.

You are looking through rose tinted specs only two teams worse than our pitiful lot Accies and ICT and we all know how bad we are in head to head with them most of the time. Play off spot at best under McGhee and he'll have us going into that more worried about the opposition.

  8. So given the fact that the club has no money who should we be signing ? We would all love to be reading that Motherwell have submitted a 5 or 10 million pound bid for a top player but thats not the world we opetate in. The English and Scottish lower and non league sides are our market so we need to try to find another Moult or Johnson

I never said we had other options Im just painting reality and there is no happy ending where we are going.

  9.

Better just stand on the side lines with your thumb up your arse than try and change the game.

We had been shite from half time until the goal. It was always coming. Doing nothing was trying to hold on to the slim hope we could keep a clean sheet and escape with a point. I think most people would like to see a positive attacking change to get Rangers out of our half.

We have been shite all season this was as predictable as rain. We have a dodgy manager at best and can only sign guys from English non league football.. We are heading down, if not this season we will miss it by a baw hair, but medium to long term are only going one way. I remember the days I used to bother.

  10. Aye, anybody that thinks a professional footballer wouldn't be down after playing so well but by having such a monumental blunder, clearly isn't thinking straight.

I dont give a flying fuck if McManus was upset he played like a complete tit sold the Jerseys for the umpteenth time since he came to Fir Park. Instead of being down do your job on more than 50% of the time you play, if you cant leave.

  11.

    Not really.

If you bought a house at £30,000, made minimal improvements to it, then sold it again at 10 x the price 18 months later, you'd be doing cartwheels.

People need to get this into their heads, Marvin Johnson is not that good.

OK, here's a hypothetical situation. If some old lady died and left £1,000,000 to be spent on transfers to Motherwell FC, would you be happy with us spending £500,000 or even the whole lot on Marvin Johnson having seen him play 60+ times?

I'll say it again, he's just not that good.

Been saying it for months , Motherwell fans loose the ability to see a player for what they are when they see pace. I remember Motherwell fans going overboard about Eliphas Shivute . I said then he was utter pish all the pace in the world but never a player in a million years. I was howled down by many a Motherwell fan at the time who thought the guy was the next messiah. The same applies to a lesser degree with Johnston. He has plenty pace and will destroy diddy teams but put him up against competent SPFL team from the top division and he'd disappear. The guy is at best average and £1 gets you £1000 the headlines tonight are the last headlines Johnston will ever make. £500,000 is an excellent deal for him.

  12. As my old man used to call them, big Marv is a daisy player....daisys good other daisys fucking garbage.

I was always a bit sceptical of the £1m price tag and based upon present trend, I never started to think about ways of spending it. And I think that's the difference.

In terms of talent, Marvin is not the hell raiser that a championship club would feel comfortable shelling out a 7 figure sum on and in terms of fitness, doesn't have that engrained resilience that the league 1 fixture card gives a player.

I like that ... Daisys Player ... that sums him up perfectly. Hes over rated by many Motherwell fans. Sure the club can chance their arm for £750,00 but frankly anything North of £450,000 will be a good deal for a player of questionable ability at the top level. He looks great against p1sh but put him up against a half decent Aberdeen, St Johnstone team he doesnt look so hot, never mind against the OF. Cadden is the real deal not Johnston.

  13. I thought Celtic were excellent tonight. Rogic and Sinclair were just about unplayable - they sprayed it wide and we were all over the place. I thought our team shape was trying to be robust but have an attacking threat but they put so much pressure on us and we made so many mistakes on the ball we ended up hemmed in and far too deep. For us to do anything there we need to keep the ball and utilise our pace better - I think another body in midfield would have made a huge difference to us breaking the play down. Clay and Lasley may have done it but thew found it so easy v Tait and Hammell they didn't have any barriers wide so just ran at them.

Heneghan falling back in at the first one was criminal. The penalty was not a stonewaller but Tait tackled with the wrong foot and bundled him with his shoulder which made it look like a penalty. The third was an absolute beaut but Tait needs to try and force him down the wing - far too easy to curl home.

Not being too upset - I don't think we were great but I think Celtic being excellent was more of a bearing on the score than us being rancid. Suspect if we'd played McHugh we'd have had a smarter shape.

sorry mate that just smacks of the usual apologist viewpoint the entire football establishment in scotland wallow in.

  14. Trying to be more specific. Cadden and Johnson when they could get the ball at least tried to be positive. Elsewhere, hard to give any positives...

Full back is a major concern. Chalmers or Hammell at left back? Tait at right back will get done every time with pace. Positional sense doesn't actually seem that bad but a slight change of pace and a winger is past him. Maybe he'll adjust and pretty sure McGhee will persevere with him but Laing might be a better option just now.

Midfield. Haven't seen Clay so can't comment on him. Alarmingly watched the game tonight and still haven't seen him.. Actually he had a chance in the first half so to be positive, you could say he got forward now and again.

McDonald. Only fit striker we have. And he's not fit. Why did we send Moore out on loan? McDonald looks frustrated and unfortunately he doesn't always channel frustration well.

Samson. Catch the ball. Once. Please. Made saves but often pushed it back into the danger area.

Keep telling myself that Celtic are not the team we should be measuring ourselves against...

No offence mate but your last line just epitomises the Scottish mentality and why we are always losers in football. Because its Celtic its OK to get shagged... no it feckin isnt

  15. Our fans are a hoot, we paid £50,000 for him a year and a half ago and are getting sniffy because clubs wont pay 20 times that. He isnt 20 times the player we got from kidderminster To suggest he one of the best players in the country is stretching belief. He has many good attributes and plenty bloody awful ones still to be knocked off him. To suggest anyone bidding less than 1.25 million are at it is ridiculous. Hes only worth what someone is willing to pay for him. We are fortunate we can hold out for bigger offers but theres no guarantee on his achievements so far that a 1 Million pound offer is anywhere near achievable..... yet.

  16. All this talk about the league cup sections being better than pre seasons friendlies seems to infer that they replaced the pre season friendlies they didnt they just moved them forward. So the actual competitive structure hasnt changed from our normal start to a season, its just moved it forward. The LC format is just as dire as it was in the 70s. The only upside is the attempt to have competitive games in the "better weather". I realise this year the weather been shite with all the rain but folk that say our weather isnt much better in the summer than the winter are just talking bollox.

We have seen from the broadcasters reaction there is money to be had by filling summer schedules with football. However thats where the upswing ends. Look at the attendances at the LC ties this format hasnt improved them one little bit. The LC is an utterly devalued tournament and has been for 20 years, fans are really only interested from semi finals onwards. The fact we let some teams enter late is just making that worse. Seeding is actually killing alot of sport cos it basically rigs the outcome. If we want to try summer football let try it and move the real stuff into the summer months and if it doesnt work change it back its hardly difficult, although Scottish football and traditionalist always find a way for not doing something.

there is zero imagination from the clubs and the suits. In my 40 years watching Motherwell the changes have been

    1. all seated stadia, forced on clubs

    2. Introduce league cup sections, tried and failed 40 years ago.

    3. Introduce the winter break, tried and failed 10 years ago

    4. Change the number of teams in the Top league to "allow development" and produce better football, tried countless times and every one utterly failed.

No wonder the games is dying on its arse , Scottish football only re-does things that have been tried and failed and we wonder why our game is still shite. Einstein definition of stupidity was "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome".

Christ we cant even name our leagues without copying our southern neighbours. Those running our game really do get money for old rope.

  17. I would replace ‘could be’ with ’will be’ crucial. If we want to progress we will need to hit as many goals as the time allows, or we will be staring at yet another early elimination from the cup.

At least we will have had 3 more games in a cup than we normally get. Our defence and midfield are still cack so even if we score a few you can bet your mortgage we wont stop the opposition scoring in the next two games. The tournament is every bit as dull and boring as the mini league format in the 70s.
