Im hoping Liam Donnelly not featuring tonight isnt a sign!

Rest easy as he was injured against Hearts.

We desperately need a big target man up front and a big nasty defensive midfielder. A few candidates to be shipped out to make way for them.

On the other hand Mohammed Sylla would do just fine!

Cheers my man for actually entering the spirit of the conversation and I will DM you the guys name see if you like him or not!

Hopefully I can insure that Cameron McD is the last person on earth that will know.

We require a strong and mobile centre forward and a commanding central midfielder in the January window. And we could also do with shedding some of the deadweight, once/if some of our more capable injured players return during that window.

I'm still waiting for McGhee's German contacts to come through with that big defender.

He's probably now of an age that he'd actually come to us.

How so? You think posting the guys name on a fans forum could put the deal in jeopardy?

Sounds like a player or his agent has verbally agreed a deal with us without yet telling his parent club. For players out of contract in the summer, when are they officially allowed to talk to other clubs? I think January is the first time a player is able to sign a pre contract but don't know if that also applies to when Clubs can make contact? So perhaps revealing his name at this time would attract unwanted attention from the powers that be?

Or maybe he is such a good signing that other Clubs (St Mirren, Kilmarnock, Dundee) would outbid us if it was known he wanted a change. I'll speculate on Newell from Hibs. The type of thug we could do with. Unlikely though.

If it were the club who was revealing the name then sure. But on a fan forum? It's basically just speculation, no matter what anyone claims about being "in the know".

Maybe not so much of an issue on this forum but we know that the hacks scan all the public forums like P&B where fan speculation can turn into their version of fact very quickly.

I'm sure P&B is where they get the majority of their scoops.

There is a huge difference between

(a) Fans speculating on a forum about a random player maybe signing up

and

(b) Someone with insider knowledge stating as a fact that a specific player has agreed a deal before he is allowed to per league rules.

I think you're right. However, I think clubs do make contact with players "tapping them up" well before they're allowed to do so. I suppose there's various ways to work round the rules.

Wunderwell is quite right to withhold the identity of our possible signing. I understand his/her reasoning and would do exactly the same. Checking out some of the obvious possible sources, I've come up with 2 names Craig Sibbald and Joe Newell. Sibbald is relatively small at 5-7 and so I'll plump for Newell. The news that SK is is looking to strengthen this position is very encouraging. We need at least 2 new signings next month.

Maybe it would have been best to go a step further and not even mention it? Unless it was just an excuse to let "the nobodies" know their place.

Not at all. I wanted everyone to have a little fun on their guesses and cement the fact that a new defensive midfielder was potentially on their way.

The nobodies comment was a bit on the defensive side, admittedly it won’t happen again and we can all ponder on who will we sign.

Ryan Jack has now managed a few months playing in Turkey without injury. Surely he’ll now be stopping getting paid by his club soon as per usual in Turkey and we’ll see him back in the UK in the transfer window? Defensive midfielder ticked off when we sell Lennon for £8m 🤣

Whoever comes in when Lennon goes will be on a hiding to nothing.

I'm still of a mindset of getting enough points on board to avoid relegation, as no one seems to be discussing how our season will pan out IF he goes in January.

Our solitary goal on Friday might not officially be an assist, but without looking up or taking a touch he had the awareness and skill to first time a perfect clipped cross to the backpost.

We will miss that ability massively

The club has said that it has a contingency plan to bring in a replacement midfielder if Lennon Miller goes next month. When he does depart the team will unquestionably miss him and I'll miss watching him.  He'll be a loss.

However, I think our tactics and midfield set up are heavily influenced by shoehorning him into the team, playing in a way that otherwise wouldn't be our preferred set up, other things being equal.  His departure will allow us to set up differently and perhaps more effectively for our level, if SK takes that on board.  My somewhat rudimenatry take would be a physical and mobile defensive midfielder; a No 8 or box to box type like Harry Paton; and a No 10 like Sam Nicholson. More sophisticated derivatives than my basic model would be possible.

I kinda agree with this.

Ive not enjoyed watching Miller the same way I enjoyed watching Turnbull, albeit Miller probably has a higher ceiling now.

I think its due to the circumstances you describe. Turnbull was the right player at the right time.

With Miller, we can see he is a generational talent and needs to play. But I dont think we have got the best out of him or the team.

Its why I hope we are able to keep him to the summer. With the players that are going to become available between now and end of season, I think he will be able to showcase his talents more fully.

I don't agree with the sentiment that we're shoehorning Miller into the team, or that we will somehow be a better team if we lose one of the best midfielders in the league. He has been excellent since day one, with less dips in form compared to the average player.

Midfielders tend to get a raw deal from fans in general, unless they're hacking folk or scoring goals. Miller's delivery from set pieces will be sorely missed, and his football IQ as a defensive mid is way too high for someone his age. I think I saw something about him making the most interceptions at some point.

I don't think we can expect much from slattery this season, as well as callachan, and Paton has been unable to string a good run of games together, on top of halliday being able to put in 60 mins max each week. I'm glad we're rumored to bring in at least one midfielder, but we might need a couple more if Miller goes, unless the crocked players come good.

When the £8mill story broke i was 'pleasantly surprised'. To be fair wasnt sure how justifiable it was. Iv sat down the last few matches to try & watch him objectivley.

Hes only 18, has a cracking football brain, set pieces already on point & he is a big laddie. He will be a monster in a few years. The big stand out for me however is if you watch him, the amount of his passes that hit the target are head & shoulders above the rest of the team. If Mika Biereth were in this team this season, the damage we could do with them both being on a similar wavelength would have been fun to watch

With respect, no one said we would be a better team without him. He is our best player by a country mile. But we arent getting the best of him, mainly due to injuries in the squad, but also because we havent had a settled frontline or midfield. SK also had him playing an advanced role earlier in the season out of necessity. Thankfully thats now behind us. There is no doubting his quality and you can see that in his passing and dead balls. But there is no doubt he would excel even more if he had a fully functioning frontline in front of him.
