The Sun is linking us with Lukas Fadinger, a 24-year-old Austrain midfielder

The ‘new Fadi’… Jesus Christ, the Scum is grim.

Fadinger is mainly used as a central or attacking midfielder.

I think we'll still see youngsters coming through, but you're right that a lot of the prospects will be nicked by other teams before we see them. That happens to teams much bigger than is, and isn't likely to end soon. That's why I'm in agreement with those people, like our CEO, who say the development payments need to increase. They haven't changed for a number of years while transfer prices continue to rise exponentially.

The Covid seasons created a gap in development which hasn't helped, but at least we kept our academy active. Of course you can't guarantee any of the youngsters will make the step up, but if we do find any, the fact that we can offer first team football sooner still gives us some advantage.

Cornelius was a Hibs youngster who didn't sign for us until he was 17 or so, so while we helped his development, he isn't really an academy product.

Getting paid at Scottish Premiership wage levels over a career probably still makes you richer than one big move at 18 and then disappearing into a big club youth system never to be seen again.

The key is giving youth players first team opportunities and the chance to actually develop a professional career.

If we do that we will retain quality youth players, perhaps not all of them but some of them and maybe even most of them.

With increasing costs and dwindling support there is basically no long term future without youth development.  It should be central in our medium to long term planning at the club.

That's one main reason why we signed Wimmer up. Hopefully .

They are. Particularly on Facebook. Ranging from we haven't had a new manager bounce to he's rubbish - it seems to be a pattern to be fair - when we get beat the chants of he must go go up.

Some comments as well as to how he doesn't know the Scottish game. I think some people don't quite get that his stats are actually decent and - there are also people blaming him for the fact that we didn't get top six.

I get that it's been a disappointing season in a lot of respects but come on - he can only do so much with the players he has and we are safe from relegation - job done in my view. I hope we scud Killie and Ross County just to prove the detractors wrong.

where?

I've read every single comment on Motherwell FC's Facebook for the last week and not one single person has said this.

I mean some of the players don't fair well and there is grumbles - but there is no one calling for him to be sacked.

Ah I see!

I was wondering - I think I'll avoid that then!

I wouldn't give it long before it crosses the stream to the official site anyways

but there were folk calling for Wimmer to go on Saturday and to bring Naismith in - or Arnott - which baffled me a bit as he's never managed a club.

That's a take and a half 😆 Facebook is mental. People have been born and had kids of their own since Dougie last had any involvement in football, none of which involved coaching.

Reminds me of when Colin O'Neil was complaining about not being considered, because he thought we should be handing out jobs on vibes.

Yes they have. There have been comments about getting him out and getting Arnott or Naismith in. Someone who knows the Scottish game was the exact comment - and the comment is still there.

I've no reason to make it up when it's on the page.

Yup you are correct.

I changed from "relevant comments" to "all comments" and I can see what you are seeing.

Even Facebook must know irrelevant comments and keep it off my feed

Crazy stuff

Good job there wasn't Facebook in the likes of 1995-1996 when we went something like 10 games without scoring under Big Eck,  or in the last year of Billy Davies

Going further back than that Tommy McLean would probably never have lasted up to 1991 either if the club hadn't seen what he had been trying to build

I did read the one as well about Dougie Arnott at the weekend , legendary player he was but for anyone to suggest him as our new manager is ridiculous comment to make

Facebook with Roger Hynd or Bobby Watson would have been interesting.

I was only 6 when hynd took over but still remember him dismantling a team

Could we maybe re-sign wee Dougie to run the club bars / hospitality instead?

I met Dougie at a wedding in 2010 when he worked in hospitality

I personally thanked him for 1991 that night , which he enjoyed

Or even better sign him up to play,he would still be miles better than the guff options we have had this season.

Have no recollection of either as a manager as I was born in 1983 , hence the username

I did however read a book by Matt Johnstone. Might have been Joe Wark knew my father Tae

Season 83-84 sounded totally grim

You also missed start of 82 83 season and Jock Wallace waving to gers fans .......as well manager!!

Yep I read about that as well

What sounded so much better though in the book beating the same team 3-0 at new year , then Celtic 2-1 very soon

Apart from McClair at Man United scoring goals my only other memory of him was coming back to Harry's revolution 🤣 Ended up at Blackburn as assistant manager if I remember right the same season
