As far as defenders go, we now have 8 on the books, Of those 4 are out and out full/wing backs. Of the remaining 4, 2 (McGinn and McGhee)  can play in central defence as part of back 3.  If we go to 2 at the back then that leaves us with only 2 out and out central defenders, Balmer and Gordon.  A tad tight methinks. Is Balmer a first choice pick?

No chance, Gordon and McGinn as first-choice centre-backs. Having said that, although there's certainly room for improvement, I don't mind Balmer at all - seems like he's being tarred with the same brush as SODs.

I’ll be content if we don’t sign the extra 2–4 players some are now calling for. The same people complaining about a bloated squad in past seasons are now demanding three players per position.

That's fair enough here's the squad we'd be going into the season with in that case

Gk- Ox, Ward

RB - SOD, Johnny K

Cb - Gordon, Balmer, Mcghee, Mcginn

LB - Longelo, Wilson

CM - Miller, Watt, Halliday, Slattery, Sparrow, Fadinger

RW - Just, Nicholson, Ross

LW- Maswanhise

ST- Stam, Sule, (Robinson, Stuperavic both crocked to December at the earliest)

Plus any youth lads that could potentially break through

You forgot Fadinger,   that is a decent looking squad

Despite where many have seen him play, McGhee was signed with a view to filling a defensive midfield berth.

Kettlewell alluded to that before end of January window and Wimmer shared that view when meeting him a few times prior to end of season. We’ll see soon enough if JBA shares that outlook.

My point was made in acknowledgement of Miller being replaced, so that’s another signing. I also concede that another centre-forward would be nice, and perhaps a centre-half at a push, but anything more will bloat the squad.

That's my understanding too. He can play RB and central defence in a back 3, but primarily thats not why he was signed.

The squads going to be bloated either way due to the nature of Robinson and Stuperavic's injuries we'll be running at minimum a 25 man squad. We're about to sign a winger called Ibrahim Said from Viborg.

Apparently a guy called Ibrahim Said from Viborg..

Thanks, first result on Google is some 45 year old retired Egyptian player, which will no doubt confuse a few. I assume JBA's contacts in Denmark are working hard
