Probably wrong but the only place I could see him going is Belgium , but even then the wages might be an issue. A Loan might be doable I guess. But remember Celtic already mucked him about when Mechelen wanted him back for this season. To our benefit. Celtic have one CB injured long term and let two youngsters for the same position leave because they could not get in ahead of Scales and Trusty. Which speaks volumes about Celtic's recruitment under Rodgers. No inside info, just a feeling, but I think they have recalled him to be a starter.....at least until Carter Vickers returns. And as others have said, why should Welsh take a wage cut to facilitate a permanent transfer to the likes of Aberdeen or us?
wellsince75
Although sad to see him return Lots of positives re Welsh . Weβve benefited from having someone better than weβd normally afford and he improved our teams results .Β Β Heβs also improved his personal stock and suspect a serious contender to get game time at park head . if a bigger club was to give another loanee of similar quality for rest of the season that would be fine by meΒ Β
bobbybingo
O'Neill saying there's a chance Welsh could be sent back to us if he can get players in and they have no further injuries. Sounded apologetic to Welsh, said he was enjoying himself 'immensely' here, complemented the football Motherwell have been playing, but said it's needs must. No suggestion they're punting him to anyone. Great as that would be, it puts JBA in a tricky situation, as there seems to be a will, but no guarantee.
mio
Liam Morrison from QPR wanting a loan move to try and push for the Scotland squad. Heβs quite young and a good prospect by all accounts. Iβve no doubt being a product of Bayern Munich that he can play. Β Β

Fair enough from O'Neill.Β Welsh is their player and I can imagine he wont actually be happy going back.Β Been immense but attitude top class and really taken club to heart.Β Sane also with Balmer,Β always smiling and always got involved with celebrations,Β wish both every success but if we could get Welsh back it would be awesome

andalg
If Welsh plays minutes for Celtic does that mean the only other team he can play for this season on loan is Motherwell ?
Mad Dog
1 minute ago, andalg said: If Welsh plays minutes for Celtic does that mean the only other team he can play for this season on loan is Motherwell ? Yes, that is correct, only two teams in a season. I think that O'Neill's comments were quite classy, but we can't be expected to wait a couple of weeks to see if Welsh can come back.

From O'Neill's comments it sounded like he didn't really know the current rules and was instructed from above to do "just in case". 100% agree we shouldn't wait around though, and be moving forward on the basis he isn't coming back. texanwellfan
Iβm really hoping we end up getting him back but we should be adding another CB anyway and If he does come back then we have even better squad depth.Β
joewarkfanclub
Get another centre back in and let Celtic worry about what to do with Welsh. I feel really sorry for the lad, but we cant be hanging on the line waiting for them to make a decision.
dennyc
With Balmer gone we must be looking to bring someone in no matter what. But also look to Welsh returning later in the window. I'm hoping Welsh features at Falkirk tomorrow and that rules out a loan to anybody but us later on in January. That leaves only a permanent transfer available this window to all but us and his wages might prove prohibitive to those other teams showing an interest. With a wee bit of luck this whole circus could work out quite well for us. And if we can't beat County without Welsh I would be amazed. Hopefully not to many others missing though. I think we have proved the managers system is more important than the personnel but I still want us to put out as strong a team as possible. Toxteth O'Grady
Scott is usually reliable https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/transfer-news-live-celtic-rangers-36535388 Quote 08:25 Scott Burns BREAKING! Motherwell win Bjorgolfsson fight Motherwell have won the fight to land striker Eythor Bjorgolfsson. The high-flying Steelmen have agreed a deal to land the 25-year-old Norwegian. Bjorgolfsson has accepted a two-and-a-half year deal that will take him to Fir Park under Jens Berthel Askou. He is a free agent after Umea were relegated from the Swedish second tier. Motherwell, who are pushing for European football, have beaten off competition from Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Bjorgolfsson has been put on the radar by Motherwellβs scouting team. The frontman is well travelled having moved from Norway to America when he was a youngster. He returned to Norway with Moss and then moved to Umea last year. Motherwell are also looking to bring in another defender after Celtic recalled Stephen Welsh. The defender, however, could still return to Fir Park, as new Hoops boss Martin OβNeill wants to run the rule over him in training first. Kmcalpin
He'd be an interesting addition and give us something a bit different up front, physical presence. Initial view though is that he'll be more of a project to start with.Β

bobbybingo
O'Neill might be on the level, or he may just be playing games here. Recalling Welsh - or anyone else from a diddy team - because he has no other options available, highlights the lack of spending at Celtic and pisses off a fanbase who are already furious at the board. Nothing I heard suggests he has any intention of giving Welsh a run, but we'll maybe get a better idea tonight.
