joewarkfanclub
I see where folks are coming from re the European argument. The only game Ive been away to was Athens and although it was sa great trip/experience, the football wasnt great. I must say, I would love to see how a JBA team gets on in European comptetition. I have a feeling it might be an entirely different experience. Of course, the League Cup doesnt present that opportunity and Id much rather see us win that than get Europe if it was a straight choice, but why cant we do both? First things first however, lets get our first league win in the bag and then we can start thinking about the semi-final.

Once we win both cups this argument will be immaterial!!
Spiderpig
Our good run in the league cup has also brought us a decent cash reward just over £228k so far from TV and prize money, with hopefully more to come. https://x.com/SPFLWatch/status/1969807339491602477?t=yHwDPCKasnNOq9fpSPS6Gg&s=09

Taking a conservative estimate of 60k fans over the 2 games and an average ticket price of £30, the games will generate £1.8m. Obviously there are costs associated with that and the SPFL will no doubt take a share but we could easily be looking at doubling that number. If we were to win the game and get to the final? This is why cup runs are important to clubs our size and why it has been so frustrating that past managers have fielded weakened teams trying to get past smaller clubs and making an arse of it! Kmcalpin
We'll get £150,000 for reaching the semi final. Gate money is then pooled and we'll get approximately 1/6th of that (minus the SPFL cut). We also receive about 1/3 of catering and programme sales from the actual game (these are not pooled). The bottom line is that we should make about £500K from the game. Of that figure of course, we'll have to deduct player/management bonuses. Worth noting that the Government siphons off 20% of the ticket sales in gate money. A tidy sum though which will keep our accountants happy.

Some years ago, Stewart Robertson told me that in cup ties and the like 1/3 of the gate receipts goes to the home team, one third to the away team and one third in costs. In effect then, the home team takes 2/3 of the gate money. (Dundee is an exception LOL). In the semis, the SPL/stadium owners will pocket 1/3 of the gate money for costs. The other 2/3 will be split 4 ways. Thats the theory. However, I'd imagine the SPFL will take a cut over and above costs. Also, I don't know if the 20% VAT is included in the 1/3 allocated to costs. Ah gotcha. So if my rough maths is anywhere near correct we would take 1/6 of £1.8m so £300k. Add on the £50k uplift in prize money and the £30k tv rights and we have a nice tidy wee sum.
