If we finish 5th, do we need Celtic to win the cup to get us a conference league qualifier or would that go to Falkirk if they lose in the final?

If Celtic win the Cup it goes to 5th in the League.

Any other Cup Winner and 5th misses out....

The Hibs game at fir park is up there with one of the highlights of the season for me. I can’t remember the stats but it was something mindblowing like 80% possession and 900 completed passes or something. I went home that night laughing to myself how crazy it was.

if we can play half as well we will win although I know their team has changed slightly. Looking forward to it.

If we can win this and the Falkirk game, it’s going to be very hard for hibs or Falkirk to knock us out of 4th spot.

If we win on saturday we are 10 clear and at least 14 goals ahead of Hibs, thats a lot to overhaul in the last 7 games, it would need a collapse of epic proportions from us, and i cant see that happening.

We would be 9 clear so would still need 4 games to overtake us

My mistake, but a win would see us at least 14 goals better off so thats as good as an extra point, but as you say 4 wins to overtake us, its not happening.

After being on a downer after last 2 games I am now upbeat having watched Jens interview on open goal (even though was before Dundee game).   This is a massive game and we need a huge support ( STAND UP AND SING FOR MOTHERWELL!!!).

win this and it is basically a 10pt gap over hibs with 7 games left.

I agree.

Its about the same as we would need to do to pip Hearts for the title and everyone pretty much accepts thats not happening!

We might pip Hearts into 3rd, though.

And your point about taking St.Mirren’s season over ours 100x from 100 is also bang on the money and I will not believe anyone who tries to say different.

League cup only matters if you win it, maybe that's just my 'historically we've been fish to bicycles' mentality , but even landing the final in the 00's it was still 'only' the league cup, shit to lose but do you think there would be 7k+ turning up this late in the season, the feel good factor, the plaudits IF we had St Mirren's season? And you think folk just want a trophy. Delusional.

Spot on: thought it was just me 👽.

In recent years with the low quality of fare on offer, I. was really only coming to games out of habit /sentiment and to see old pals. I've had enough of eye-bleeding football thank you and have regained my pride in the team. With their quick interpassing, almost telepathic understanding of each other's position and ability to pick holes through defences  by  playing in triangles/reverse passing and clever  movement, they remind me so much of Bobby Ancell's team (without The Press, of course).

If the manager and most of the players stay until next season I think there can be further improvement and fan engagement but once JBA finally leaves us, I trust the board to select someone with the same philosophy, given the positive effect it has had on crowds and therefore revenue.

Meanwhile, to infinity and beyond!

Let’s make Hanley look like an arse again, if he’s fit enough to play; and Clarke an even bigger arse for continuing to pick him for the national squad.

As time goes on with him in charge of Scotland the less arsed I am about the national team. He’s not stepped foot in fir park in years and continues to pick guys like Hanley and Ralston. His comments basically saying our individuals aren’t as good as the collective team must have p1ssed off a few of our players. I hope we go out and destroy Hibs and highlight “again” Hanley as a weak link.

All I am going to say on the national team is when you are a part of the best defensive team in Scotland and still don't get a sniff, both players are probably playing best football of careers at this point plus both can play in a number of positions.Sods and McGinn worth a punt 100 percent.

Even Welsh worth a look in but nah it be far too much to pick players that are on career highs.

Whilst I still like to see the national team doing well, I no longer take an active interest in it and haven't done so for many years. I used to organise buses to Hampden for all internationals but my enthusiasm waned as I began to see and understand the politics in play behind the team on the pitch.

Given Clarkes latest arse up and he is an ignorant arse,  and the kick in the teeth to SOD,  McGinn, Watt and Motherwell in general I can only hope the team collectively get together, and I'm sure Jens will have done so, and told them to use the massive negative dished out to their advantage and ram it right down Clarkes throat by wining every remaining game, starting on Saturday against Hibs and more or less secure 4th, and then look upwards towards the uglies.

Clarke took a dysfunctional team in a dysfunctional setup where nobody wanted to play for the national side.

He turned it around into a squad that started qualifying for tournaments again.

He did it using his own methods, and those same methods managed to get us to this year's World Cup.

As the last 2 Euros showed, the same approach fails miserably in the finals, and for me he should have been punted after the last Euros.

While he is in charge, though, there is zero reason to imagine he will change anything that got him to the finals and kept him in a job - and that includes remaining overly loyal to some mediocre players.

I’d have sacked him at half time v Germany and got the unemployed Moyes in the studio to take over.

he has qualified for tournaments but let’s be honest, it’s groups that we should have got out of and it is (apart from the centre of defence) the best group of players we’ve had in over 20yrs. We’ve also been humiliated at both tournaments playing a horrific style of football.

anyway, apologies this is a match thread. 3 points to the Well on Saturday.

Sticking with the misfiring and serial sitter missed Adams, for years tells you his philosophy on football. But he has got us to a few finals, but then his weaknes and lack of dynamic approach has caught us out with embarrassing exits. Loyalty to your players is one thing but sticking with them when they are clearly past it is another.
