I guess Lowry is a decent option to start addressing the gaping hole left by Slattery and Just. With Whyte and Booth hopefully stepping up this season, that’s encouraging too.

I saw him coming out his car at the HB game.

really promising young player at Rangers who’s career seems to have stalled. Certainly has ability but the rumours were always about his bad attitude but these are hopefully only rumours. There were always rumours flying about on old firm players due to their weird fan base.

Usually a bad attitude disappears with age when they realise its a big bad world out there, by then its too late for some. Hopefully he has a point to prove comming in on loan.

The Wycombe fans seem a bit peeved about it which is always good news. Not sure they are too happy with their manager who seems to prefer “run through wall” type of players to guys with ability.

Will wait until I see how he performs on the pitch before passing judgement, but on the face of it seems like a decent short term fix in midfield.

Not a great fan of loan players, particularly if it benefits a club in our league that is a direct opponent. However, he is coming from outwith and in a difficult to fill position, so if a permanent signing of the required standard isnt available right now, I could get on board with it.

Hope the rumours about attitude are just a load of shite and the boy can resurrect his career with some stellar performances and a bucketload of goals!

Lowry was highly thought of earlier in his career but for whatever reason it hasn't quite happened yet but we have a decent track record of getting players careers going again so hopefully this is another one of those times.

I feel the same. That's a couple of loan signings this window. Maybe these are to allow Matty or academy players a bit more time to achieve the required level and step up later in the season.

Having watched Lowry's highlights reel, he definitely has the look of a Slattery type player.

Very comfortable on the ball, difficult to dispossess, can pick a pass and takes a good free kick / penalty.

If he can resurrect that kind of form on a regular basis, Im all in.

When players tend to leave the horrible Glasgow clubs they are suddenly attitude problem riddled,were not good enough blah blah blah because they seem to think the world football stops outside Celtic Park and Ibrox its the same fans who have been crying about how good Watt and Just have been oh look now they are shite lacked ambition ,not good enough because they didnt sign for them.

He will do us a turn good signing if you ask me.

I think he’s probably more of a replacement for Just. He’s also been given the number 11 shirt, which points in that direction. I still think we’ll see a Slattery replacement at some point who’s more of an 8/10 type. Although having said that, Fadinger has been given the number 8 shirt. Then again, shirt numbers don’t really mean as much as they used to.

Seems he suffered a bad injury and then his Mum passed, so no real surprise if he went off the rails for a time. This is a new start for the lad, so hopefully it'll all work out for him with us. Worth noting that he's apparently out of contract at the end of the season, so he's playing for his future.

Ive read that elsewhere and maybe we will deploy him differently. But from the highlights reel (limited, I know) he looked more Slattery than Just.

Think it’s a positive step by the club hopefully another few in soon as the league starts in only 8 days.

After what felt a slow start the club are churning through the signings quite nicely now . 
 

working though keeper - defence - midfield .  I was wondering if we’d be resigning Spittal now given all the signings hearts have made or perhaps a cheeky loan for Turnbull . 
 

Anyway , it’s coming together and beginning to feel get more optimistic about the season ahead .

Still think the middle of the front three is a big issue for us  dont fancy any of the players we have for that role as main or back ups.

Ap,Hendry and Bjørgolfsson i dont think are going to cut it.

Agree 100% about Ap and Hendry. Big Thor needs to be given a run of games to fully test him. If we are going to play as we did on Thursday then a big front man is a necessity.

I always worry a bit when I see fans say new signings are "a replacement for X", because inevitably, that is who they are judged against.

New players, new managers, new midfield. Let's see how they line up an play rather than expecting them to replace  anyone.

We lost Miller and Spittal, but ended up with Fadinger, Watt & Just. They were replacements from a headcount perspective, but that midfield (along with Slattery) was very different to the one that went before.

And with Alfred's emphasis on more forward runs and more crosses, I expect our next midfield to operate a little differently again.

I think each one of those three would have scored on Thursday given the chances created. The opportunities we did not convert against HB were criminal and have kept the tie alive.

If none of those three are fit or going to feature under AJ, then we have to quickly find someone to finish off the chances created. With our more direct play under AJ we are going to create more penalty area openings so we need a central striker we can rely upon to convert.  And I don't think anybody we saw on Thursday can fill that role. No matter how hard they try.

I'm not sure I would go as far as criminal. A little disappointing maybe, but inevitable when you are building match sharpness.

I saw this quote from Alfred on Friday: 

“We had a situation where I was coaching a player to make a pass to another player and he asked, 'Who is that?' That again puts it into context."

I'm confident we will be fitter and sharper in the next leg.

I think Lowry is a player thst could really suit our style.  This is a big opportunity for him so hopefully got a point to prove.

On separate note ( and fearing wrath of spiderpig 🤣🤣).  If our new style involves more crosses I wonder if this could benefit AP if he can stay fit. Always feel he's a penalty box player

Don’t think that Spittal suits our present style of football, he’s got the skills but doesn’t track back or close down opponents enough and could leave us exposed.
Turnbull - although I agree he’s a class player - similarly wasn’t fast enough or had the stamina at Celtic under the Aussie  manager (can’t be arsed trying to spell his name) to play a fast pressing game so not sure about him. I’ll add to that the more obvious thing is that we’ve no chance of getting him on loan
