  1. How astute some of our fans are when describing the Board as amateurs, they are correct. They receive no pay for what they do, so, by definition, they are indeed amateurs. As to the complaint that the Directors are not experienced on the Board of a football club, I would ask how do you become experienced on the Board of a football club without being on the Board of a football club? There was a post by David recently regarding the recruitment policy process of the club. Whilst not everyone may have agreed fully with his proposal at least he took the time and effort to put forward an extremely in depth, well thought out and articulate analysis as to what he believed could be improved. Unlike the vast majority of the posts on here which are just negative criticism and could, possibly, at times be classed as bullying and/or trolling. Also for those who are no happy with the direction the Club is heading, there are a number of possible options available. Option 1 1. Join the Well Society 2. Put yourself forward to be a Director of the WS 3. Get elected 4. Be nominated to be the WS Director on the Main Board 5. Put forward your proposals for change Option 2 1. Be asked to join the Board of MFC due to your existing skills 2. Put forward your proposal for Change Option 3 1 Buy MFC 2 Do what you like as you now own it Or go with what you currently seem best at – being negative and criticising others.

  2. Lots claiming to have followed the team/ football for years but still don't seem to have a f__king clue how squads and transfer windows work. Let me spelL it out to the angry idiots clambering for more and more forwards. We’ve scored 3 fewer goals than the team in 3rd but conceded 15 more. maybe the management team have concluded we can use the 6 forward players in first and development squad plus attacking midfield to get the goals but maybe, just maybe, the defence needs some better options. Yes it would be great to get an established striker who has been banging them in consistently at Scot Prem level and wants to try a new experience playing in front of a bunch of roasters (not you ppower obviously as you’ve already fkd off) but there probably aren’t many about. it’s all very well having an opinion but there are so many totally deluded on this forum 🫨

  3. Hi Folks Thought I would have new topic for this. I think we have all had our say over the past few days and 24 hours especially. Everyone entitled to their own opinion and as long as constructive and not getting personal with folk it's all healthy. I have my concerns especially after transfer window. The signings I think will be good but it's up front where I am worried but we just have to wait and see. We are currently 9th and in a lot healthier position than Livi. Ross Co game midweek massive and a win would be great especially against that walloper Adams. Tomorrow will be very tough against a very good side at the moment. However..........as fans we need to create a great atmosphere. If negativity in the stands starts it then transforms onto the pitch and players then get tense, heads drop etc etc. yes I know they get paid more than a lot of us but are still human beings. Getting told "get off, yer s***e, retire" don't help......(mind you that sounds like me doing stand-up) 😜😜 We see where we are at end of season. Kettlewell contract till end of season. If we go down he won't be retained. If we stay up then he maybe gets more time and hopefully learns and becomes better. I don't know the answers or outcomes but it is never an easy ride being a Well fan. Let's all unite and get behind the team and hopefully finish this season on a high. COYWWWWWWWWW

  4. This. The KVV thing is on the other clubs, not us. We had a value and stuck to it, and that was the right thing to do.

  5. Well we're supposed to be a Community Club and as much as you might not like it, that includes women. Why stop there though; why don't we do away with the walking football team, the power chair football team and all the other Community based projects and put all the money saved there into the first team squad. We can't have it both ways.

  6. I see the curry club over in Pie and Bovril have been slating this forum. Quite ironic as many of them were having meltdowns last night that would put this thread to shame. I just find that an odd place as many of them enjoying being bedfellows with fans of other clubs. Anyway it has been quite a frustrating window esph with the injuries and recalls but in saying that if we managed to get another forward in I would have been quite content with the business that we have done.

  7. I fail to see why we're still struggling to appoint a CEO? Do the board not read these forums. All the candidates they need are right here

  8. Presumably he suffered that injury whilst signing his extension clause for next season....

  9. I get that a forum is for all opinions and we can't all be positive but by God the last 24 hours have been negativity central. Some people really do have sad lives who just moan at anything. See the arseholes at your work that non stop say they hate their job moan at everything are generally also shite at their job. The same applies here in their football knowledge and so called support of their team. That guy/gal yesterday who said he hadn't been in 10 years but on moaning. Holy fuk that summed those sort of people up .

  10. The clubs on a 'fire the manager cycle' - Aberdeen, Hibs, ourselves haven't really solved any of their issues. It's almost as if it's done to appease the fans rather than address the real issues.

  11. Cheers pal, I like a balanced viewpoint where I think P and B will suit me There are certainly things wrong with the club. No escaping that. But to deal with people who can only see black is like speaking to a Tory about the qualities of say SNP or labour or vice versa. Completely deaf. take care and all the best David

  14. And that is what it is all about ...healthy debate

  15. Of course it does. You may be critical of the team and certainly have been of this manager. But at least you engage and back up your criticisms. I may not agree with you. But at least I can debate with you.

  16. I agree and also with others that it’s more likely it will be a three way battle to avoid playoff but with us pulling away at the start of the split and finishing 9th or 8th. A big part of why I’m optimistic remains the apparent attitude and willingness of the players to respond to adversity. Okay we could have had better luck and judgement with signings but the squad seems together and that’s an important factor going into last 16 games

  17. Very noble but it might have been a good idea to actually sign a striker because principles aren't going to get us any more goals than Ollie Shaw.

  18. Because the people in charge of the club don't think Van Veen was worth the outlay. We offered what we deemed to be what he's worth. Other clubs decided to offer more.

  19. I never get why people talk about P&B vs here as if its not about 60% the same people

  20. That's the first interview I've genuinely enjoyed in ages. He seems like an honest and knowledgeable guy.

  21. There are a few excellent posters on the Motherwell P&B in terms of thoughtful posts and statistics, but, for the most part, it's a big self-congratulatory circle jerk on that thread.

  22. An interesting observation. I have made it clear that I am very much in the "sack him" camp, but it feels like he has a large % of our supporters who think we should stick with him. Those calling for his head are in the minority imo.

  23. Throughout the footballing world there won’t be many who have solely become proficient having set out to run a football club. ‘these are the people’ never signed off on any player - they provided a football department a budget to work with. Burrows was a one off & someone who shielded those making decisions behind the scenes. Expect those who repeat the failure to appoint will be the same when the next in the role doesn’t have the social media presence of those before them. Summer and winter clearouts are de rigueur in Scottish football. Would be great to change that cycle, I’m not seeing it happen anytime soon.

  24. As has been said by others, the figures for this year suggests the defence is needing more work than the attack. Perhaps Kettlewell is considering three at the back, and using the new fullbacks as wingbacks in a 3-5-2; I get that leaves the question about who partners Bair - maybe Spitall or Paton fills that role, or Vale. He was prepared to go with Montgomery and Gent so perhaps he sees merit in having additional fullbacks/ wingbacks who can play that role. I don’t see Kettlewell making deliberately negative choices that would/ could ultimately result in his sacking; why would he do that?

  25. Totally, they are all posting about the mgr being in over his head etc and they hee haw about his intentions re playing squad...tbf the club will hopefully communicate this asap I am a clown for reading most of the posts on here

  26. Who has told us we can't match Killie and St Mirren? we need to differentiate between can't and won't and it's a question that can be asked of the Society. There's a world of difference between the two positions.
    1 point
  27. Not sacking him would have been catastrophically disastrous. We would have been relegated. There was so much wrong with his tenure both on and off the field. The huge and very costly mistake was appointing him in the first place.
    1 point
  28. He also improved KVV regardless of what his detractors on here say. Just look at Kevs body language before SK and whats happened subsequently. There is no doubt he is able to connect with players and get them working for him. See also our last minute winners and equalisers this season. Our squad are still with him despite everything thats gone on.
    1 point
  29. The thing is, he's shown that he's got something about him as a coach. He's certainly done more with the likes of Bair than I ever thought possible, and when an individual (or coaching team) can coach a player to the point where he's defying the analytics and numbers, he's definitely got something about him.

  30. Let's get some context on this ffs, I have no doubt that there were lots of strikers available none of which were experienced, prolific regular starters as they are not available in a January window and especially not for the money we can offer. I'm sure SK tried but the harsh reality is we're not an attractive proposition for some players especially financially. So the players we brought in are what we can afford people need to realise as a club we are feckin skint. The usual suspects are slagging off Vale without seeing him play, they probably did the same for Higdon, and KVV so let's wait and see how it turns out. Our defence is just about the worst in the league so we sign defenders and people are still not happy ffs. As I've said before and no apologies for repeating myself the whole club set up / governance needs reformed the well meaning amateurs we currently have need to go as the club needs to get back on track and stabilise.

  31. He's 43 now, and last played for Accrington Stanley over ten years ago. Might be within our budget, actually.
    1 point
  32. Yeah, he played great in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final Replay against Dundee United at Fir Park and scored in that game as well. We actually tried to sign his old team mate Danny Cadamateri but we were gazumpted at the last minute, as per.

  33. Not gonna disagree with that. My response was more in relation to letting strikers go before we got replacements in. I clouded it a little by making reference to Obika, because he is still with us. You are correct. He should never have been given 2 years. 6 months like Souare would have been fine given Mandron apparently knocked us back (not that I wanted to keep him anyway). If we go into the second half of the season with the strikers we have, then absolutely, its a failure. But it grinds my gears when you get post after post calling the manager clueless, out out his depth etc. Pretty sure SK knows what we have isnt enough. Pretty sure he knows we need at least 1 more striker in and that he has been trying like fuck to get one, because Im pretty sure he knows his job depends on it. The thought that he has been sitting on his arse watching all this unfold and doing nothing is for the birds. We are where we are due to other clubs being able to outbid us for players and the boards reluctance to break our wage structure. You can argue all day long about the rights and wrongs of that, but its not down to Kettlewell. Similarly with the barbed comments about full backs. SK has been getting slaughtered for playing SOD at RWB and for having a lack of width in the team and no cover for Gent. It looks like he has addressed these issues, but because we havent got a striker in, suddenly we have too many full backs. Its not an either or. You can recognise both weaknesses in the team and try to address both. FWIW, I do agree with your recent posts about this board needing a range of opinions, both negative and positive and I am aware of the fact that I am regarded as being firmly in the "Happy Clapper" brigade. Thats not to say, I dont see anything wrong with the club, some of the decisions taken, performances etc, but when you are swimming in a sea of negativity someone has to provide the ying to the yang.

  34. For those suggesting we "pushed the boat out" for Van Veen, how far should we have pushed? Are you 100% convinced he'd have got the goals to keep us up? So you're guaranteeing he's fit and in form? And guaranteeing he won't get injured? Any player can get injured, can we afford to have stretched our budget for a guy only for him to be injured? Pushing the boat out for Van Veen would have been lunacy...
    1 point
  35. If he can fool all our trained medical professionals into thinking he's injured, I know who I'd be letting go.
    1 point
  36. Correct. Folk need to realise we`re skint. We had to get players out, before we could even make an approach for anyone. If they then don`t want to accept what wages we can afford, then it`s not the managers fault. It`s the Motherwell world we now live in folks. Depressing that Killie and St Mirren can out manouvre us finacially, but that`s the reality.

  37. You can dress it up any way you like but if someone had said on 1st January that by the time this window closes we will have lost Biereth and the only forward replacement we signed was a kid from Blackburn with zero track record of scoring goals then it would have seemed unbelievable and totally unacceptable. But that’s where we are now. An absolute shambles of a transfer window.

  38. Its been a decent window as a whole, Like the Nicholson and Halliday signings. The loans are all punts so here's hoping they do well and we'll see what Elliot can offer once he's fit. But i do feel we're still light up top and lacking an experienced CB to organise the 3
    1 point
  39. Definitely the worst pant wetting January window I've seen. I do consider some of it over the top. I will wait and see what the signings do before signing our demise. Certain facts still remain St J, Ross County and Livingston haven't exactly strengthened to any great degree and from the outside still basically look shite.
    1 point
  40. Ehhhhh sorry to point out the glaring flaw in your rant but our joint top scorer and joint 2nd top scorer are away so I dont think its unreasonable to require some strikers
    1 point
  41. We have 2 fit strikers (for the time being) so we are pretty much forced to play one up front, with one attacking option on the bench, and pray to God that no one gets injured or suspended, or that we have to make tactical changes during a game. Not addressing that issue is a total failure on the part of those that's job it is to build our squad. They have had plenty of time to do something about beireth, shaw , and Wilkinson going, but we dragged it to the last minute and it bit us on the arse. They are also responsible for signing obika, Shaw and Wilkinson. I'm fine with the other signings we've made, but we now have a bunch of full backs who might as well cross the ball to each other.
    1 point
  42. Folk will try to dress this window up in many different ways, but I don't see how it can be described as anything other than a predictable failure. I've had it with Kettlewell and Daws. And the Board. We're going nowhere forward with any of them at the helm.

  48. To be honest if that's the best we can sign we should not be in the Premier League. Total farce of a club. No CEO, no money, a hard core support of about 4000. To think we used to be a credible force in Scotland. Those days are gone and will not return.
