A Killie fan phoned sportsound phone in last night and said Motherwell and Kilmarnock have both had 4 draws to start the season and he knows what kind of draws he'd prefer to watch and its Motherwells. 😂2 points

This is what I find really strange at times about the Motherwell support. Where as most supporters tend to be biased in favour of their own team, particularly regarding refereeing decisions, we seem to find weird and wonderful ways to argue against our own team If you want to say that Ward could have done better, that's fine or that it was not a foul, fine, or that he was ahead of the ball, fine, or that he jumped early, fine. To say that there was no contact whatsoever however is made up fantasy. Ward gets a nudge in the lower back by the forearm of the incoming Killie attacker. That is what is clear from the Sportscene highlights. Why make things up just to argue against the team you support?2 points

You watched a different game from me. Our new style really suits S O'D.2 points

A goalkeeper should command their box and deal with threats before going for the ball, either by clearing them out or being more aware. With the protection they get, there is no excuse. Foul or not on Ward, he has to be stronger in those situations. Maybe he just is not capable of it. And he has butterfingers.1 point

Might be a very interesting season ahead. Results so far would say very little between all of the non of the old firm teams, even Morse so than usual, and perhaps not as much of a gap between them and the rest.1 point

4 games in, it's night and day compared to most of what we watched last season. Of course there is frustration that we haven't closed out the last couple of games, but I'd rather be frustrated that we're playing well and missing the finishing touch, than playing poorly. We knew it was going to be a process, and if anything, I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how quickly the players have adapted to the new approach. Still need a central defender or two, so here's hoping we see a deadline announcement.1 point

Get what you're saying and maybe ox should come back but he had a few errors in him too...word for sod too, I've been a critic but thought he's been pretty decent past few games.1 point

I heard this morning he might be out for a few weeks, not sure what the issue is but it’s disappointing. a centre half and centre forward is required. I actually felt AP did better yesterday and was decent in the 2nd half in particular. In the cameos Hendry has made I have seen nothing so far other than him throwing his arms about in the air when players aren’t passing to him. I’d accept that if he was in good positions but he’s stood static next to defenders,. He also seems to have a poor touch and can’t hold the ball up and is unaware of players in better positions. I’ve not been impressed.1 point

I'm enjoying the new brand of football too; the best I've seen in years and I'm not Generation X or even W. I'm also on board with the Board's direction of travel on managerial appointments and JBA's philosophy. No manager will achieve 100% success, be it in terms of results or transfer dealings; nothing like it in fact. However for some, maybe even many, fans, its important that we convert good football and high possession percentages into actual goals and stop conceding soft goals. As far as JBA is concerned I fully back him and his methods. At some point though he's going to have to prove he can do that. So, there is a an element of uncertainty as to how successful he'll be. Time will tell.1 point

I’m sure JBA is as frustrated as the rest of us. His side is playing some great football and dominating games, but keeps being let down by a weak first choice striker and an even weaker keeper. You could add a shaky central defence to that list too. It is now on him to sort out both ends of the pitch and I see no reason why he won’t or can’t.1 point

If a manager only convinces fans when everything is right they will never be convinced by any manager we have. No manager is right about everything all the time. The perception of managers in football is one of the most fluid assessments you will ever find because every one of them loses their shine at some point in their career. There are too many variables that impact what they achieve. I will just enjoy what I'm watching until the shine wears off it or he leaves, one or both of which will almost certainly happen at some point. I really liked Stuart McCall and Stephen Robinson but was pleased when they both left. I was devastated when Tommy McLean left us for Hearts and in my time supporting Motherwell I will always put Tommy McLean down as our best Manager. However in his 10 seasons there were times that I would have happily seen him leave because there were just as many downs than ups in that 10 year period. That's the nature of the beast. The only factor unknown about Askou is how long it will take for his shine to fade or he leaves , so lets enjoy not watching eye bleeding shite for the first time in ages and not read too much into it all.1 point

Going by fixtures 18th October against Falkirk is only real chance if 3 points. Will be a difficult season.1 point

I'm a bit baffled with the jury still out. 4 games played, played every team off the park and the only thing that has stopped two wins on the bounce has been two games where the goalkeeper has chucked the points away. No manager can legislate for that. The fundamentals are all there. There's nothing wrong with our approach, style or recruitment so far. What would the manager need to do to convince those who think "the jury is still out" Are we really saying if the goalkeeper hadn't fucked up in the last two weeks that more people would be convinced by the manager 🤔. Every manager will become unconvincing to the fans at some point that's why 99% of managers will always lose their jobs eventually. That's the nature of the beast. However right now I don't know how much more Askou could do to convince the fans that's he's right for the job right now.1 point

I felt that we dealt with their physicality pretty well, and we have done the same against other teams so far this season. None of our players are scared to get stuck in, and we are very organized when pressing, The forward players/wingers track back well to prevent crosses, and our defenders don't get drawn into a game of headed tennis, instead, they knock it down to the nearest teammate, or bring it down themselves to play on the deck. That's not going to stop all chances, but we're definitely not getting battered. Today showed we can be effective against a low block, but we are vulnerable then the CBs get turned around, with mcginn often giving up early and appealing for an offside (when var will take care of that). A center back with a decent turn of pace would be a huge upgrade. Overall, it is impressive how our pre-JBA players have adapted. If anyone said last season that we'd be dominating posession and playing it out from the back relatively successfully, with SOD, McGin and Gordon in the back 4, they would have been laughed out of town.1 point

Today was the first I've seen us play for a few weeks and I have to say its the best I've seen us play for many a year. A good crowd today but I thought our fans were a bit flat. More games like this though and they'll come back in even bigger numbers. It was encouraging to hear the applause and cheers at full time and smiling faces talking about the quality of football. The game itself panned out pretty much as I expected and both sides could have won it. We were the better team and dominated possession but weaknesses at both ends of the pitch cost us. There's no doubt we missed Callum Slattery badly and hopefully he'll be back well before Christmas. I thought Killie tested us rigorously with their long ball approach and hopefully that lesson will feed into our recruitment. We did seem a bit vulnerable on the flanks. Some good performances from the likes of Just, Watt and Said. I remain unconvinced about Ap Stam though. He seemed very lightweight against a big intimidating defence. For me though this weekend was never going to be about today's game; rather about our transfer dealings. A final word on Callum Ward. I was 100% against dropping him after last Saturday, as every keeper can have an off day. However, 2 games on the trot? Its rare that a keeper makes not one but two glaring errors in conceding a goal. Time to bring the Ox back.1 point

Since you criticise my spelling if Callum. Im quite right to criticise your alleged name. Given your age.1 point

Win lose or draw this is the most entertained I have ever been at Fir Park. Long may in continue, it’s unbelievably a good feeling going into games with this confidence. Every team we have played this season we have dominated for huge parts of the game. Might not have fully clicked yet, but I’d much rather be watching this instead of the Ayrshire Kettleball.1 point

We haven't lost in 4 either. The jury is out on Jens? Come on. You can't be serious. We are playing some of the best football we have in years. So negative on here. Yeah today was a sore one but it's done. In fact we've not lost in ten since he took over1 point

Lol bet you can catch a ball. Ward never had much to do. You could have enjoyed an aperol spritz between saves. I want to like ward but we can't keep dropping points.1 point

So purism versus pragmatism ended all even. And who can say but maybe there was some karmic element to Ward's bout of dropsy but who am I to speculate on the musings of the universe.... Actually a good game. Enjoyed it. Think we have one of better groups we've had for a while. Longelo, Watt, Fadinger, Just, Maswanhise are all better than average and we have Cook-Charles and Hendry to come in and possibly be assets. Of course there are other areas we're not so good and a keeper and a penalty box striker are required. Some slick play although lacking a bit in terms of actual real chances. Don't think the Killie keeper had too many real saves to make but good to watch nonetheless. I'd actually like to highlight Elijah Just, though he had a great match. The whole points v performance thing. Well obviously we need to start winning at some point but as I always say you can only start judging a manager until we've played a full round of matches. I'm enjoying watching it but whether it's actually effective is still open to question but you have to give the experiment time.1 point

I can't say for certain if Watt was injured but he definitely hurt himself making a block/tackle (I can't remember which) about 5mins before getting came off.1 point

100% Lost our deep-lying, controlling pivot when Watt went off. I was expecting Maswanhise, Ap Stam and Said off. Still, the single reason we didn't win was horrific goalkeeping.1 point

Always possible he's just discovered he doesn't enjoy living and playing abroad. If so, no point making himself miserable for another couple of years when he can make the same (or better) money closer to home.1 point

For context, I've been watching Motherwell for over 35 years and I've seen much worse starts to the season than this. We got a point against Rangers that wasn't expected. Some fans also didn't think we would get points against St Mirren I actually feel right now that you can say nothing positive about the manager or the club - that's not a you you by the way - a general you Am I happy with four points from four games - yes I am. Better than zero from four0 points
