  1. Not game related but well done to the guys that created the banner for Dougie Imrie, you are a credit to the club. He’s a guy we’ve not had much time for and who’s not had much time for us over the years but what happened goes way beyond silly football rivalry. Well done guys 👏

  3. Jesus we have some amount of bed sh1tters in our fan base. We are 5 games into a season with a new manager, playing the best football Ive seen Motherwell play in 50yrs. We are sitting 6th but I think everyone knows with a little bit of fortune we would be sitting 3rd. I think folk should take a chill pill and calm down. Our manager also talks sense and it’s never word soup and I have every faith we’ll be in a Hampden semi final by this time next week.

  4. Just back from the game and I'm seriously pissed off and I'm annoyed at myself for being pissed off because we are a good watch and but for another dreadful defensive laps wed have won. That's 5 games played and we've been the better team in every game. During the GA and SK era Id have bitten your hand off for what I'm watching now ....but ....there's always a but...the final third is woeful AP just doesn't cut it for me, Said does a ton of work but fuck me dithers about in possession and quite often loses it in great positions. If Manwanhise is the player we think he is he should be burying that one on one, no composure piss poor effort straight at the keeper. Defensively we still gift goals that would embarrass a pub team. That was a hard take , at half time we were an absolute joy but by full time we gifted an utterly woeful Dundee a point and could have lost it. So so frustrating.

  5. I'm curious about other peoples opinions on this. For the life of me I cannot understand fans of clubs that flirt with European qualification every 5 / 6 years or even longer wanting the regular qualifiers to do well in Europe to improve the co efficient. All an improved co efficient does is put multi millions of pounds into clubs already with a big financial advantage over us and put the OF straight into the league stages and for what ?the scraps of an extra conference place and periodic qualification. An improved co efficient for me hurts clubs like ours , OK we may get into Europe ourselves now and again but that in no way will compensate financially for the money the regular qualifiers get. Our only real hope of success is the domestic cups do we really want to make that harder by hoping another 3 or 4 clubs out with the OF are significantly financially strengthened, over and above the financial gap even as it is now. Had Hibs got through last night they'd have got a minimum of £5 million and potentially £8 million. Same goes for Aberdeen and Dundee Utd had they gone through. Even now 3 of them get another bite of the financial cherry. Am I alone in hoping they all get fucked out as early as possible. Frankly I don't give a monkeys what anyone abroad thinks if our game , they dont go, they don't pay and their opinion changes fuck all on my matchday experiences and never will. When I read social media I feel like I'm the only person whose starting position is fuck the co efficient 😂 . Am I the only one that thinks like this , am I warped 😂

  8. Interested to start a discussion on how our new Chairman's vision of the club going forward has been taken on board by the fan base . He certainly comes accross well in interviews and seems very honest and transparent with his answers to questions. Feel it's a much tighter ship now as not much gets leaked as seen with transfers incoming and out going . For me I'm on board . He like many of our support were not happy with many aspects re. the football side and in particular the style of play adopted by the managers appointed pre Wimmer . Hes gone about changing that completely by being bold with European type coaches who have different ways of looking at how the game is played and also different mindsets/mentality . Pre Wimmer it was doubtful I'd have renewed my ST as the football was an awful watch imo . I've been going to FP for 58 years and it would have been a wrench to stop but this fresh approach has been a breath of fresh air . How will we do this season ? . Position wise don't think it will be much different to any other season say 5th to 8th kinda thing but I'm 100% convinced it'll be a much better watch So to conclude I'm delighted the Chairman has taken this bold step and should be given enormous credit for his decisions so far in changing the direction of the club .

  11. AP has 6 goals in 25 games for us, and 20 in 40 for his last team. To say there's little evidence of his ability to score is lazy and incorrect. He had 2 injuries last season, on top of literally moving from the other side of the world, at the same time his baby was born. It's well known that it takes players from other countries an extended time to settle. Never mind when the club changes manager twice and overhaul the style. In addition, he works his arse off, leads the line well, is solid on the ball, puts himself about, and frequently gets himself into good positions. All attributes that tend to buy players time, but for some reason AP isn't getting the benefit of that from some. JBA said that it will take time for the forward players to gel, which makes sense. No one knows for sure how it will play out for him, but there's no evidence to suggest we should cut bait on him when signing a goalscorer is proven to be one of the hardest things for a club to do, and our market is the likes of Callum Hendry. We just came off of losing two managers in a season and having to reshape a bloated and unbalanced squad that looked dead on its feet at the start if fhe yead, and we've managed to make a good start of it, so I don't think now is the time to nitpick on individuals.

  13. Can I just say the football we are playing right now is an absolute joy to watch. We are totally dominating teams in terms of possession and are brave in all areas of the park. We need to be more clinical but that will come. All I can say is I was really struggling the last few years watching Motherwell - it was a real chore at times, but now it’s fantastic to see us play actual football and get the rewards for being brave.

  16. He is not injury prone, he has a shoulder condition that requires surgery, played his whole time in Belgium with it and no ill effects, incidentally Mechelen played everything through him so can see why we've got him. The operation is scheduled for May. Blackburn Rovers were keen to take him on loan too.

  18. Good luck to young Wilson, i understand the reasoning for going out on loan and I think he’ll do well at Raith. There’s a talent there and playing every week will develop him. I can honestly see him coming back a better player. I know a few of you have panned him but I’ve felt the last couple of times he came on he did ok. anyway, good luck Ewan

  20. I just don't get the hatred towards Kettlewell. He saved us from relegation in his first season in charge, there is almost no doubt about that. We got our first league win at Ibrox in many years. He got the best out of KVV, turned Theo Bair into a sellable asset and introduced Lennon Miller to the first team squad. It is generally agreed that he worked his socks off for the club to the point where it all got too much in the end. When the fans turned on him in the last few games ( as they did very vocally) he reacted in kind and made some ill judged decision. It happens with human beings under considerable pressure. Would any one of us want him back as manager of our club? No. Does he really deserve to be slaughtered for contributing to the continued SPFL status of our club, a status that allows JBA to now do his thing? I don't think he does. There were some comments over the last few weeks about Dougie Imrie being the pantomime villain and how tragedy shows how shallow those negative emotions actually are. Do we really need Kettlewell to be another pantomime villain so that we can enjoy the football and feel validated in our opinions?

  21. Watch the 3rd goal back. AP runs back towards the halfway line and drags his centre half with him, whilst doing this he's pointing exactly where SOD's ball needs to go. I think AP should be doing better with the few chances he gets but it looks like he's doing exactly what Askou wants him to do for the benefit of the team right now. The goals will come.

  22. A year on from the big board room coup, I think a lot of things have become evident. 1. Getting "real control" of the club was paramount to everything that has happened in the last year! 2. We now have a young, innovative chairman in place and a much younger board with fresh modern ideas. We also have a CEO who is aligned to these principles. 3. Many fans talked about the need for investement, and that may still come. But the chairman talked about some "easy wins" whereby we could actually grow the club and make it more attractive to investors. 4. Getting in a young modern manager who wants to play attractive attacking football has already seen attendances rise. If that continues to improve, so will stadium revenue. 5. Signing policy is much more forward thinking. Younger, fitter players who are able to play an expansive game and tied down on contracts that give them a residual value. This should see us grow our transfer revenue as players move on to bigger and better things. This in itself will make us more attractive for future signings as they will see us as a good club to facilitate their development. 6. Improvements to communication and in other areas of the club and around the stadium give the impression of a club that knows its identity and is constantly looking to improve. This and the continuing emphasis on community work will make us more attractive to sponsors and in theory should also allow us to grow that revenue stream as well. There is still a lot of room for improvement, and some mistakes have been made along the way. But I dont think Ive been this excited and genuinely delighted to be a Motherwell fan in a very long time. Erik Barmack anyone?

  24. Why do folk on here get so animated about MJC's predictions. So what if he thinks we will get beat every game, its that's his opinion that's his opinion. Be a bloody dull world if we all thought alike.

  25. You've decided he is shite. As have one or two others. You may turn out to be right. But I would say based on the body of evidence to date, it is inconclusive. He spent most of last season injured. He is now on his 3rd manager in a year and a brand new style of play. If we get to December and he/we dont look any better in the goals for column then you might be proved right. Until then, how about we cut him some slack and give him a little support?

  26. Makes no difference to him. Play a ball in to his feet or in front of him and his next touch is a tackle. IMO He’s been poor irrespective of what we feed him and continues to be.

  28. I’m very pro our style of football and again thought we were excellent in the first half . our midfield is so much stronger than I can remember in the majority of the 45+ years of following us . the final third for me is an issue and I’m not just saying AP who looks devoid of confidence . we have a lots of players who’s final ball is pretty dreadful and that’s an issue. Several flatter to decisive a little, they have pace and strength but lack the same quality of the midfield . perhaps it will all come together but the majority of our forwards I don’t think offer that much . just to be clear I’m not slagging off any players here nor have any doom and gloom - a little frustrated yes and would like to see a touch better quality in the final 3rd

  31. Bobby Graham and Wullie Pettigrew were the first strikers I remember from when I started watching Motherwell. So I grew up thinking the way they played was normal, and all the strikers I would see at Fir Park would the the same. If only I knew...

  32. Very sad news and condolences to his family and friends. An amazing player, who struck up a telepathic understanding with Willie Pettigrew. I believe that came about by chance. I seem to recall he was a quiet, under the radar, type of player with his prolific sidekick receiving more publicity. Bobby had the knack of having great foresight and positional awareness and brought out the best in others. RIP Bobby.

  33. This ties now got a lot tougher. Aberdeen have signed Scotland international Armstrong on free. Along with Nisbet and Swedish winger that they acquired previously. They will now be much better team.

  34. You think our fans would have learned by now not to judge any signing based on performances for previous clubs. We've seen often enough previous form accounts for fuck all with our signings. If he signs it's a signing we need and I welcome him and reserve judgement until I've seen him a few times. Christ Davie Cooper was playing for Rangers reserves when we signed him.

  37. Your posts always come across as similar to a film critic reviewing a new release rather than a football fan who enjoys going to support their team. ”It was a fairly low budget production which delivered the standard of film you would expect, wasn’t brilliant but it certainly wasn’t terrible either. The way the audience reacted to it was a disgrace, but not surprising. Totally ungrateful and lacking basic understanding of the movie industry and the online reviews only reinforces this. It has to be said that so many cinema goers really are deplorable people with no common sense whatsoever. At the end of the day it was well written and credit goes to the producer…Graham Alexander.”

  38. No matter where we are tonight no one, absolutely no one, can say this Motherwell team isn't worth going to watch. Hopefully that will be reflected in a decent home support for the Kilmarnock game.

  39. Keep the heid folks. It was a very good result. A very tough start to the new campaign and we're unbeaten in 3. Forget about losing 3 late goals; we were always going to concede and Hearts fully deserved their point, as did we. Yes, disappointing to lose 3 but thats football. The big plus for me is that we played Hearts today with over a week of the window to go. It would be far worse to have recorded this result next Saturday. Hopefully, we'll look back on today in 6 months time and say it was a very positive result. JBA has now seen our defence at its worst and should know by now that he has to strengthen the defence and whats more has over a week to do it. He will already have been looking at defenders and Hearts comeback today should crystallise and galvanise his thoughts. All this, and we played some really entertaining football.

  40. See if you had just stopped your post there...... It wasnt a bottle job. It was naive tactically from the manager and a mixture of tiredness, poor discipline and bad decision making from the players. Also, we may not have won a league game yet, but we are also undefeated against 3 of the better teams in the league at 2 of the harder venues. For the first 60 minutes thats as good as Ive seen us play in a long long time. The 3rd goal is an absolute thing of beauty. For a brand new team and manager its always going to be a work in progress at this stage. Today IS a sore one because of the circumsrances and we DO need to learn from the mistakes we are making, but how enjoyable is it to watch compared to last year?
    3 points
  41. No arguments there and again we have shown some really promising stuff, the type of which was never evident under our previous three managers. You can see what JBA is doing and he is building a competitive team which we need to hope comes good, but as I said we need to make that count by turning draws into wins. It’s early days though still. To take a step back, looking at our opening fixtures…Rangers(H), St.Mirren and Heats(A) to come through that unbeaten is commendable. However as I said context is important with draws and I’m afraid 3-0 up with 20 to go and end up hanging on for a point isn’t good enough. Next week at home against Kilmarnock is crucial, we NEED to pick up all three points.

  42. Another benefit of playing this new style is it really sucks the life out of the opposition fans. There's not much for them to get excited about when we are pinging the ball around.

  43. I'm very much of the same view. A successful forum needs all manner of views. It's important not to be an echo chamber. Some posters are optimists and some are pessimists. Most are somewhere in between. All views should be welcomed providing they adhere to message board rules.

  44. People can make excuses for any player if they like as far as I'm concerned. He had a tough season last year for various reasons and I don't think it's in doubt that he puts a shift in. Hopefully the signing of Hendry will help too but there's a long way to go before the end of the season. He plays for Motherwell - I'll back him

  46. Well I don’t know too much about any of those instances but I have seen up front with my own eyes the behaviour of Celtic fans inside and outside of Fir Park and I have seen the damage they have caused to the ground, which is far worst than anything Rangers fans have done to Fir Park in recent times.

  47. I'm not sure where to put this comment - but those writing AP off with certainty I think are wrong. If we are to be patient with our new style, I think we can be patient enough to at least see AP over the first ten league games. Theo Bair was a running joke in his first x games for us. Plenty more I can add to that too. There's a player in there, and it could go either way. To add - I have more doubts about Said than AP in terms of future prominence - but again ten games and I can add more.

  49. I got to admit I'm in a minority of one I think. I didn't think at the game the SOD incident was a penalty and even if there was contact the way he over egged his fall to convince the ref would have got a 0.1 at the Diving Olympics. It looked too contrived and that put enough doubt in the Refs mind it wasn't, even if on another day another ref might have given it. It was balanced out for me when he didn't give St J a penalty with the very last touch of the ball, I've seen them given. So as some have said , he was shite for both teams. Didn't detract from another good game by SOD, and the fact the Saints fans at the end were giving him pelters shows he was doing something right, even if my nerves struggle with the new style. The way he was winding them up after the final whistle just topped off another good team effort. I moaned like fuck during the GA and SK years that it was mind numbing pish we were watching so I'll take the nerves with the decent football. Its been many years since I looked forward as much to going to see us cos its entertaining. Hope it keeps going.
