Why Can't Some Of Our Fans See The Bigger Picture?
Malky79 replied to nethertonwellfan's topic in Club Chat
What is the bigger picture we are meant to be seeing? I was encouraged by the start Gannon made and he has perhaps made a rod for his own back seeming to work early miracles but at the moment there is no sense of a team evolving. There is no clear idea of what out best XI is. People are in and out of the team. Sure some injuries haven't helped but we currently look all at sea. With january coming up who knows who is coming and going and whilst I'm all for passing the ball on the deck we have been startlingly chronic to watch for at least 3 months regardless of results. Settled teams tend to do better than ones that chop and change, so frankly I hope we can get that and see results pick up. I can't say I'm overly confident but it is clearly far to early to call for the managers head but I can see why people are getting incredibly frustrated we do look as poor as we did under Malpas lately and that really is a level no one wants to see revisited. I'm grateful we have some points in the bag to affors us this bad spell but again that only reminds us also of the opportunity lost of competing further up the league. A few decent results in the next month can make all this go away not least a good cup win flung into the bargain but given we don't tend to win much in way of silverware I do also want to see a bit of entertainment in way we play and that as much as anything else is what is making this season become incredibly grim! -
After watching that garbage today I think the question should be why not how!

I remember Townsley went months looking awful and played like a worthy contender for this worst XI but he very much came onto a game and was more than decent. He somewhat blotted his copybook by buggering of to Hibs on a free transfer after rejecting our offer, scoring a belter of a freekick and celebrating by running the length of the east stand getting it right up fans who had given him absolute pelters and those that stuck up for him alike.
-
Yeah I have to agree Soloy was a decent player and swap Fagan who wasn't great for John Davies who was a nightmare and you prob got a winning XI for the worst team of that era and a good shout for worst team ever!
-

Only thing I could find on his transfer to Spain suggested about 950,000 euros which is still not bad but I'd be stunned if he'd went for 9 million. Was a decent player though and one would have liked to see stay.

LMAO I knew that would get a reaction but he was still a good player for us and reckon he'd do well in the team I picked. Despite the goal return never being what you'd hope from someone earning so much he was a class act often made to look mediocre by the players around him not being on the same wave level. And can hardly blame him for taking the money that was offered, as for the court case and what not well I don't know the ins and outs but I suspect Nevin was largely to blame for fannying around and tossing money hand over fist.

Just be grateful after that long a phone call with Frazzle talking about Motherwell it didn't end up in a mutual suicide pact!

Come on nethertonwellfan surely you can easily see the difference between Tommy Coyne and Owen Coyle and likes of McGeady and McCarthy! The former 2 had been over looked for years by Scotland and no one begrudged them making using of a family link to to play international fitba and in Coyne's case go to a World Cup final. I cheered Coyne on and was delighted for him. The latter two as 16 years olds flicked the V sign to their own country and made mealy mouthed excuses about being overlooked a whole world of difference. O'Brien and McLean got some stick for similar decisions also but no one ever really thought they were that good so hardly bothered, still a bit twatty though making the decision at such a young age.

Team for saturday, changes? I'd like to see a team along the lines of. GK-Ruddy LB- Reynolds RB- Hately CB- Hutchison CB- Craigan CM- Lasley CM- Jennings CM- Forbes LW- O'Brien CF- Murphy (maybe not right up top but played through the middle) CF - Jutkiewicz
-
Didn't think Boyd was getting near it, if he was though then it worth the yellow. Bit of a let off there, take 1-0 at HT given how poorly we started.
-
Was playing then stopped, blank now. Ah well not that bothered.
-
Ruddy is the pick of the bunch, Hately has been a nifty signing for someone seemingly going nowhere. Jutkiewicz has worked out pretty well and again a signing that shows how much shite people talk on this(or any other) forum when it comes to which players are or aren't good enough. I thought he looked ok but rusty and a bit greedy at the start but since he gotten a few games under his belt and got a goal or two he has proved to be a very decent forward for us. Not entirely sure what convinced Moyes he was worth £1m but certainly good enough for the SPL. I reckon we'll finish 6th. Sticky patch just now and some uncertainty in january to overcome but think we will get back to picking up points, hopefully today, but if not then maybe starting with St. Johnstone. Hard to say, he'll be here until the summer how long after that depends on how successful he is. It no mean feat to get a team the size of Motherwell into say the top 3 or 4 in Scotland and if can keep a nucleus of squad together and build on it even fairly short term I reckon Gannon could do it maybe next season but if he does he'll be off as I can't see a strategy for longer term success ever coming about. Even with a successful youth policy we struggle to hold onto real talent for very long and must be frustrating for any manager given the financial limitations.

Meeting expectations. I liked the sound of his appointment, looked like a manager on the up that we were quick lucky to get. With something of a clean slate I felt he'd be in a position to put his stamp on the team nice and early. I like the fact he is willing to give young players their chance, good to see he seems to be getting Murphy back on track. I'm not impressed with his handling of the senior players so much. Certainly not bothered that he willing to drop them, you only as good as your last game and all that but he appears to be a bit confrontational and only likes players that say won't talk back so much. That isn't maybe entirely the case you never really know what goes on but whilst he has done well with some of the younger lads I think he hasn't got the best out of some of the senior players and that partly contributed to us sitting in mid table safety but currently out of the hunt for euro places which on the face of it might seem over ambitious but having watched the dross around about us is something we should be in the mix for even if we ultimately fell short. Hibs have spanked us but Utd look like nothing special at all.
-
Weaver no chance, Utd would be keeping him if they could afford to. Flood is a decent player and certainly could be available on loan but suspect it would be to a club with deeper pockets than ourselves.
-
I mind when it seemed to guarantee pretty much a sell out. I remember back when we used to only get some of the main stand, the enclosure and a small section of the East stand. As a young lad I went to a few games against Rangers/Celtic when it was like that in all 3 areas and we were hugely outnumbered and it was arguably quite an intimidating atmosphere. It hardly a family friendly kind of game even now but it is a whole lot less intimidating or as poisonous so I don't understand why we seem to get increasingly less of a home support to these games. Certainly it is nothing like it was and I'm constantly disappointed at Motherwell fans not turning up to these games. Used to be you could guarantee bit of atmosphere, now even these games are flat. Of all the matches we play you'd think fans would get up for them given how objectionable those lots are.
-
So does theirs from spaces I could see all round the ground.

Live on the telly a couple of weeks before christmas it doesn't suprise me though.
-

Best game ever! Check out the size of our support compared to now as well. Was at that game myself reckon it is my all time favourite, even more than winning the Cup was. The joys of watching Kirk making Pressley look like a dumpling as well.

Are we not talking something like three sub appearances since that speculation came out? I didn't see him against Hibs but seemingly just about everyone was terrible and the two previous games against Aberdeen and Utd I didn't think he was that terrible, not brilliant or at his best but hardly disgraced himself either. I reckon in the context of Gannon's stranges subs and how those games turned out alongside the impression that he is off has coloured peoples perceptions. Not saying he actually played really well but up until Gannon dropped him to the bench he was a fairly consistent and useful performer. If he has said he away or wants to then I don't blame Gannon for not picking him, but unless he's made that overtly clear I wouldn't have dropped him in the first place it only added fuel to the fire. Or even if he had and Gannon wanted to get more out of him he should have stuck by him until the performances tailed off, not drop him and then watch his form start go as he gets asked to take Forbes role off the bench. We'll get by with out him as he isn't that good but our loss will be someone elses gain until we get someone in to replace him as we've certainly started to look a weaker team in recent weeks. I'm curious to see how muc hthe team is going to change again in January.
-

That doesn't mean he isn't finished at Motherwell, just that there hasn't been an argument.
-

Can guarantee I wouldn't be having a moan if that were the case, well unless we'd resigned Bob Malcolm!
-

Don't have time to go into detail but I'm watching a team going backwards rather than progressing. Ups and downs I expect but come january we could be having to adapt to likely loss of likes of Ruddy and Juskiewicz and I get the feeling that Gannon's man management and handling of senior players is questionable at best, on top of aggravating the referees when we largely been getting rub of the green(albeit he isn't wrong about how bad they are) I'm seeing a difficult 2nd half of season that isn't goingto build on what seemed a highly promising start. And in a season of arguably seriously mediocre quality it is looking like a big opportunity lost. Could well be wrong and things will turn again but I'm sceptical.

Nutter alert, I suppose likes of Butcher and McLean wanted us to lose against Rangers and Malpas had us lie down to Dundee Utd. Thank feck we never qualified for europe under Kampan we'd only have thrown any potential rematch with MyPa 47. That seems much more likely than trying to win games against clubs where you have previous or percieved loyalties to as a means of progressing your career!
