Olly Whyte scores again.

Not knocking the lad but that’s only his 4th of the season in league 1, three of which have been in the last month.
Great to see him starting to get goals and long may it continue, he’s still only 19 so plenty of time to see him in a Motherwell shirt.

Ah that explains things, still think it’s best to let him develop without pressure away from FP until the management team decides he’s ready.

Whyte and mcallister are the next 2 youth players who have the potential to break into our first team. Whyte's getting games in L1 which will be good for his development and Mcallister is in our matchday squads at the moment so both will hopefully make it here.

Welsh apparently not in Celtic squad tonight.

Must be running scared of us. Was there agenda to weaken us and disrupt a guys career?

I suspect he’ll be back with us next week. Fingers crossed.

I’m not convinced. You know what they are like. They’ll have the biscuit tin open and they will be thinking up of some deal to get shot of him permanently. They could probably get a few hundred grand for him and his £10k pw off their books.

i think they’ll do the proper dirty on the lad.

Robinson ruling himself out of the Aberdeen job, 2-0 down against a 10 man Hearts team.

StMirren heading for relegation troubles.

Or he's trying to get sacked so Aberdeen can get him for free.

Losing a team that played with 10 men for 75 minutes definitely feels like a relegation battle looming.

He'll end up at Aberdeen or Hibs

I bet they’ll play him against Auchinleck and then punt him back to us so he’s cup tied.

I’m never sure who has final say in these matters if it’s club or player. Does it depend on contract wording, or Is it always the player who decides if they want to go along with what club wants or can club just tell them, “we’re still paying your wages (or part of them) so you are going on loan to XYZ” or they can tell player they are being transferred, although i would think, with respect to being sold, the player could decline or at least demand the wages for rest of his contract?

Maybe they will, but they could just as easily stipulate in the loan contract that he cant play in the cup, they dont need to be sneaky about it.

I think its as simple as they had a deadline of Jan 14th to recall him, or we'd have him for the season, while the window is open until Feb 2nd. So it makes sense to call him back so that they have all options available to them, knowing they can loan him out on deadline day if needed.

Exactly this. Celtic are only doing what I hope we would do in a similar position. Having a look at Welsh in training to assess whether he would fit in to the team, is better than they currently have, is better than anyone they can bring in. If none of those apply send him back out on Loan.

I hope he does play against AT. That way I understand he could  not go on Loan to anyone but us. And if some team wants to buy him outright and pay his full wages then so be it.

All this 'Celtic are doing the dirty on us and Welsh' is just nonsense.

Very much this.

The point of a loan is to get a player some game time and improve their prospects of a starting slot at the parent club, or garner some interest in the transfer market.

We got the benefit in the first half of the season, but any time a loan player succeeds the chance of them being recalled significantly increases.
