although the squad is lighter than anyone would like it's great that the younger players got brought into the mix. Will be great for their development and may help bleed more of them into the 1st team squad.

Agreed.

Good to see young Ferrie getting gametime and I would love to see Lennon Miller making real strides forward this year. He has been around the first team squad long enough now. Time to start finding out what he has got.

Hopefully the League Cup games will provide the right environment for that.

Agreed, and the positive is on Kettlewell.

I know we scored six, but the level of the opposition looked like an equivalent to a Scottish Junior side?

You mean the kind of side Aberdeen got put out of the Scottish Cup by ?

Do we have any friendlies arranged in Scotland?

Didn't we give up on those for a while - partly because some teams tried to kick us off the park and partly because there was a strange rule that said if you were booked or sent off in a friendly played under SFA jurisdiction those carried over into the league.

Don't know if that's still in play, though.

That goes back to when Terry butcher was manager and David Clarkson was sent off at qos for nothing and therefore suspended for first league game and butcher said then that we wouldn't be playing any more friendlies in Scotland.

That's what usually happens in these games.

Yeah I certainly wouldn’t trust any Motherwell team to get a result against Airdrie. The same goes for games against Accies. We always go into games like that as though getting a result isn’t as important to us as it is to them.

I think what Dave was referring to was the 'men vs boys' aspect. In the literal not the metaphorical sense...

Yes  that's right Greg. We usually field very young teams and the likes of Airdrie and Hamilton play older and more experienced ones, maybe to get a result. The only important factor is getting our lads gametime.

According to the Scotsman, a supercomputer pre-season predictions has us finishing in the top 6. It has predicted the final table to be:

1. Celtic

2. Rangers

3. Hearts

4. Aberdeen

5. Hibs

6. Motherwell

7. St Mirren

8. Kilmarnock

9. Livingston

10. St Johnstone

11. Ross County

12. Dundee

I would be happy with a top 6 finish as long as its not 6th, a shot at a European place would be nice.

Sixth would be an improvement on last season though. There's no quick fix for our squad and SK will need a couple of years to move players on and make improvements.

Not sure how the super computer can predict anything when the majority of clubs havent got anywhere near their full squads sorted out yet. Surely your league position depends mostly on how successful you are in the transfer market and what your squad looks like at the end of it.

It's the OLBG supercomputer, which probably bases its predictions on historic betting trends and results data. Also, the Scotsman is shite.
