Exactly this. We arent conceeding goals because we dont give the opposition easy ball. When a defence of SOD, Gordon, McGinn, Koutroumbis is keeping clean sheets after the evidence of last season, you have to take your hat off to the manager. Welsh & Longelo improve us playing out from the back, but they arent essential to the shape / structure, as can be seen from the consistency in performance despite squad rotation.

Gordon I'd expect to leave based on game time and Balmer will be off either in January or the Summer.

Orinoco
We need a very fast mobile striker with abit of presence. Problem with that is every team, apart from maybe Hearts, are looking for a striker. Would be good to get players in early in the window. fizoxy
January is a sellers market. The only players that will move early are the ones that clubs are actively trying to offload, as such we are definitely going to have to overpay. It will be interesting to see how we approach it. We're miles ahead of where we thought we'd be at this point in "the project." One thing to keep an eye on is the fight for places in the world cup squads. Maybe there's some fringe players that could become available as they need guaranteed games to try and force their way into international plans. Would selectors care about performance at motherwell? Hendry might just be unlucky but he should've bagged a few by now, Stam just hasn't got it imo There must be forwards out there that would improve us which is a good thought It's hard to judge how other forwards in spl would do with us ...would Bruce anderson at killie be an upgrade?Just using him as an example. Seems a busy player , I'm not saying he would, interested to see people's thoughts
weeyin
It's often hard to judge forwards, or players as there are so many factors in play over and above footballing talent. That's why we often see players over or underperform at different clubs. Theo Bair is a recent example. This far into his 15 goal season for his he had only scored 2 goals. So it can be very difficult to predict who is going to settle in and hit form.

Totally, not many teams have the luxury of a " penalty box" striker, a lot of work done in build up etc...as far as that side of thing goes , hendry and stam do OK. Maybe just looking for that player that can make something from nothing...hendry did thst on sat in 1st half but he choked the shot

Big Stall
Did any if us honestly have Just, Fadinger, Said or even Watt (from our own league) on their radar? Im guessing very few of us. I'de like to think the manager has a few irons in the fire that we wont have a clue about.

If the last six months have taught us anything, it’s that JBA knows exactly what he’s doing at Motherwell, so I fully expect a good January transfer window.

To be honest, at this stage in the 'project' i'd have expected us to suffer a few heavy defeats as the players bedded in. The fact that we've progressed so far in the time available, I think is nothing short or remarkable. I'm positive that the manager can see where the issues lie and how to address them much better tha anyone on here can. I can't really imagine him not having something in mind for the transfer window that will suit the way we play.

This, plus I expected to concede 4 or 5 goals from misplaced passes when we're knocking it around across the edge of the penalty box. I thought it was early January. I would like to see us strengthen but think we should be committing folk to further contracts. Then build again in the summer. Sign assets onto long term contracts to protect the club in the long run. The ugly sisters and hearts are going to spend big money to outdo each other for the title. Think they said that with the LM money it was going to be a long term project so can’t really see us doing any business

Orinoco
Even if you combined AP, Hendry and Osong they would struggle to make the grade. It cant continue. Play cooke through middle until we bring someone in.

wellfan
We’re a proper number 9 away from this being an outstanding season. Hopefully the board push the boat out and give JBA the backing to sign one in January. Otherwise, we’ll look back on this season and wonder what might have been. mfc
A number 9 is a must in January but for me a left back should also be a priority, longelo clearly offers something going forward but defensively he hasn't got it,he gets caught out of position far to easy then doesn't have the desire to get back,I would be all for giving him a go further up the park and sign a proper left back. thewelllfan
Folk on twitter seem to think we're signing Ronan Hale I mean I certainly wouldn't say no based on his goal tally from last season as long as the fee is minimal. I think we need 4/5 in January and to let 4/5 go. We need a LB or to recall Wilson as cover/competition. We need a CB to replace Balmer and potentially another if Welsh is recalled. St as mentioned by near enough everyone. Terminate Osong's loan and try punt Stuperavic and Robinson. A CM if Halliday is to leave as expected. And personally we need a number 10 to link the game better than Slattery can at let Just play off the side where he has far more impact for me
