What strikes me is none of our defensive line are signed up for the new campaign - only 15 goals lost this season.

Who deserves a new contract?

It’s the effectiveness of the system, more than the individuals in the back four or the goalkeeper, that prevents goals being conceded.

Exactly this.

We arent conceeding goals because we dont give the opposition easy ball.

When a defence of SOD, Gordon, McGinn, Koutroumbis is keeping clean sheets after the evidence of last season, you have to take your hat off to the manager.

Welsh & Longelo improve us playing out from the back, but they arent essential to the shape / structure, as can be seen from the consistency in performance despite squad rotation.

The only 1 that may have better offers will be JK.

I'd expect Mcginn and SOD to both get extensions given the amount they've played

Welsh will most likely be gone.

Gordon I'd expect to leave based on game time and Balmer will be off either in January or the Summer.

January is a sellers market. The only players that will move early are the ones that clubs are actively trying to offload, as such we are definitely going to have to overpay. It will be interesting to see how we approach it. We're miles ahead of where we thought we'd be at this point in "the project."

One thing to keep an eye on is the fight for places in the world cup squads. Maybe there's some fringe players that could become available as they need guaranteed games to try and force their way into international plans. Would selectors care about performance at motherwell?

Hendry might just be unlucky but he should've bagged a few by now, Stam just hasn't got it imo

There must be forwards out there that would improve us which is a good thought

It's hard to judge how other forwards in spl  would do with us ...would Bruce anderson at killie be an upgrade?Just using him as an example. Seems a  busy player , I'm not saying he would, interested to see people's thoughts

It's often hard to judge forwards, or players as there are so many factors in play over and above footballing talent. That's why we often see players over or underperform at different clubs.

Theo Bair is a recent example. This far into his 15 goal season for his he had only scored 2 goals.

So it can be very difficult to predict who is going to settle in and hit form.

Totally, not many teams have the luxury of a " penalty box" striker, a lot of work done in build up etc...as far as that side of thing goes , hendry and stam do OK.

Maybe just looking for that player that can make something from nothing...hendry did thst on sat in 1st half but he choked the shot
