  1. It's not a risk worth taking though, Dundee utd are the perfect example of this. Had boys on 5yr contracts, brought in 10m plus on transfers and it still left them riddled with debt. Even now, contracts mean next to nothing the players and agents actually have so much power. If they want away, they will be away. Motherwell as a rule, don't do to badly on that front, from this years pool we lost Hastie, from a group of 5-6 players. The younger boys, Mckinstry and Mcalear we are pretty powerless with, as are most clubs in scotland, Rangers and Celtic included.
  2. Glenn whelan, if he does sign, shouldn't be a worry for us, I would be very surprised if he was chucked in a day or two after signing without a pre-season.
  3. I think regardless of there start to the season, they are facing up against 16 and 17 year old boys, David goodwillie gave our first team the run around only last summer, in fact Clyde gave our first team a very nervous 90 minutes last summer. I understand the Jamie Semple point, but you would have to think there is a reason for this, cornelius as well wasn't in either squad however did Maurice Ross not mention last week that even at the early stages of there career these boys were training with the first team more often than not and weren't viewed as reserves/u21/colts despite there age?
  4. When you look at the difference in the teams between last night and last season, it's incredible. Last years team had Rohan ferguson, Jake hastie, David Turnbull, James scott, Barry mcguire, Liam Brown, Mbulu, we even seen Alex gorrin, and Jamie semple was the youngster, fast forward a year and it's a team of 16 year old boys. I personally think your review above is absolutely ridiculous.
  5. we charge £24.00, so this really doesn't bother me in the slightest. It is 100% more expensive than it should be but that won't change. You tend to find every club has the same band of supporters who will go regardless to most games so reducing ticket prices isn't going to all of a sudden bring thousands more through the gates to make it worth while..
  6. We more or less lost the spine of our team, Carson, Hartley, cadden, Moult and a few others, all at the same time after those 3 games against celtic.
  7. Jesus, I should have known better to be fair haha!!
  8. I was very much on the same boat, however after reading the article it kind of makes sense, first of all he was released by Ross county because they weren't entering a team in the reserve league but by all accounts I think he was rated. with regards to him taking the spot of Cornelius, he is being being signed to take Reece mcclears spot in the reserves, a one in one out style transfer.
  9. see FWIW, I think Turnbull's delivery from set pieces can be a bit suspect at times, going to put it down to wanting to give the other team a chance. Other than that he will win the balon d'or by 2021.
  10. I can understand where he is coming from, you see sharp, you think man utd, you see candy you think Liverpool, kind of similar to us with Ian Skelly unfortunately sponsors at our level have went down a different path and clubs are sponsored by all sorts of wild companies, tony macaroni at livingston, Binn group whatever at st johnstone etc so that iconic look is gone. I think there is definitely a place for sponsors at high end clubs, PSG, Chelsea, Man utd Barcelona but having the local chippy branded on the front of a motherwell top takes the appeal away.
  11. I don't ever understand the view some people have of the MLS, especially now. The league is definitely on the up, They pay fairly well, The quality of life is streets ahead of anything on offer in england, and as someone said above is it really much of a step down on what he'd get in england? the chance to play in some massive stadiums in front of very good crowds and from a personal point of view, he has no commitments and it is a chance to see america and experience the lifestlye. New York, Chicago, Orlando or Doncaster, Rotherham and Shrewsbury.
  12. Wouldn't wish a knee injury on anyone, the single most horrible experience ever. The mental side of things is by far the hardest part.
  13. Again, this might just be me, but testing '2 banks of ball winners' against a piss poor dumbarton to prepare us for games against Celtic and Rangers is chocolate tea pot patter. What is the point in having these match winners to suit them on a bench against the big games, if your game plan is to sit in and try contain them with the hope of catching them on the break then we sure as hell won't be doing that with Liam Polworth breaking away. Who cares if he would get blown over by a strong wind, if he gets one on one with any fullback in the league he's leaving them for dead.
  14. Not sure if you picked me up correctly, however I wasn't putting up an 'argument' for not objecting to gambling sponsors. I was saying that I think it's quite a dangerous topic to discuss because people have so many different experiences of Gambling. I personally have no issue with us being sponsored by paddy power, I don't care about who's name is plastered on the front of our shirt, even better that we no one this year but I can see why people would feel incredibly strong against having sort of relation with these types of companies. I certainly wasn't putting up any sort of PRO gambling sponsors advert.
  15. I think the whole debate as to whether or not Gambling/alcohol sponsors should or shouldn't be allowed is quite a dangerous subject, i'm sure we can all agree we would rather they weren't involved but the effects both have on everyone can vary from none at all to the absolute extreme. I for example have never had any bad experiences with gambling or know anyone who has so I don't see a huge issue with having a betting company on the kit other than personal preference as it doesn't steer me towards gambling etc however I can appreciate there is a flip side to that, without knowing what it is, the sponsor will really not sit well with people.
  16. Is this the startin 11 you fancy for the season, or for the Dumbarton Game? either way I have so many issues with both teams, Sloth playing right midfiield in your 4-4-2 for one is absolutely wild considering we have two ridiculously entertaining WINGERS, why play a centre mid there?
  17. I'd love another stab at europe, although I admit it would take for a lot of things going our way !! I was at that awkward stage of still in school and not having a job when the decent european fixtures were around, Levante fell the day before my first ever pay cheque and the year after we got landed with Krasnodar in the arse end of Russia. It would be nice but i'm not counting on it.
  18. Surely you're at it ? Ariybi has already been ruled out by robinson and the comments about james scott were nothing more than a tongue and cheek comment, in no way reeks of desperation.
  19. Bobby Moore no play at fir park for west ham as well?
  20. Djibril Cisse I think lined up against us twice, for krasnodar and panathanikos? was pretty good in his day.
  21. https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/14711158.tom-leighton-the-scottish-youngster-on-his-time-at-benfica-and-becoming-the-next-oliver-burke/ Not doubting you, just seen this article before.
  22. He was on Trial with benfica as well at one point and got sent home early injured I believe. I suppose if Robinson views Maguire and Donnelly as playing further up the park it does leave it us a bit light at the back, i doubt his wage demands would break the bank he could be useful to have around. Saying that I doubt he is the one player Robinson refers to, I would imagine the marquee signing would be a striker.
  23. I Believe so, Long is missing through concussion, Capser sloth has been allowed back to Denmark to deal with a personal issue and Devante Cole is a doubt.
