Thanks for clearing that up, Willy.
Kmcalpin
The March review shows mjust how big a problem refereeing/VAR actually is. Totally inconsistent. I don't get the comment about Callum Slattery. Are they looking at footage from the St Mirren game? If so, thats downright ridiculous. If we're going to review decisions from a month ago how far back do they go? If so, that should open the floodgates.
joewarkfanclub
Only got round to watching this last night as there was hee haw on the tv. Im acually raging about the tackle on Just by Oxlade - Chamberlain now. Never thought too much of it at the time and felt a yellow was probably about right, but when you see the pictures that were available to VAR and the intitial point of contact, I just cant fathom how they dont think thats a red card. Especially when Beaton tells them he has a mark on his shin! Least said about the Gordon red card the better. Totally pointless exercise now as they are just using the review to justify decisions and save face, rather than admit mistakes and actually improve the standard of officiating.

Spot on, Gollum actually says on the video re the Just tackle, "if the referee had shown a straight red card to the Celtic player Var would not have overturned it" ffs the whole set up is a corrupt, incompetent shambles.

Previously he's said if the leg bends (as it this case) it's a red. They also said he's in control of the ball, he's not even looking at it. weeyin
No surprise that the VAR review quickly turned into the VAR Justification Show.
santheman
It's simply not fit for purpose and that's been proved time after time since it's inception. You would think that things would improve through time but if anything the decision making is getting worse each season and that's worrying.

It's got so bad that, as yesterday, I don't stand up spontaneously to celebrate a goal much any more: I often await the probable VAR review. So am I getting the wrong impression when I think that the OF aren't affected to the same extent by VAR decisions 🤔?

The OF are subjected to the same delays, but it's at least worth the wait for them. Of all the issues, I think removing the spontaneity of a goal celebration is VAR's biggest crime. It's literally what we pay our money to experience.

I really don't know as they seem to have as many problems with bad decisions for or against them. Maybe someones keeping a record somewhere? I've got friends who are OF fans and they moan about VAR as much as me but because of who they are they get more media coverage. VAR is just shit and why I love going to the odd local WOSL game.

weeyin
From The Guardian - no surprise here but the numbers are in: New survey finds 91% of fans believe football is better off without VAR Only 2% thought VAR ‘makes football more enjoyable’ 81% prefer watching games without video technology In a poll of more than 7,000 fans, the vast majority of whom attend matches, only 2% agreed with the statement that VAR “makes football more enjoyable”, and 3% said it made the experience of attending a match better, while 91% disagreed. Of those polled, 81% said they preferred watching matches without video technology. For fans cited in the survey, the biggest specific problem with VAR was the delay in reaching decisions: 96% of those polled disagreed with the statement that VAR decisions are “generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time”. Meanwhile, 92% agreed with the statement that “VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations”.
