It doesn't matter what style of football you play fans like to moan. Even more so these days when pretty much everything is infused with a sense of entitlement. We put in a better performance against a better team in last year's semi final and the knives came out. It shouldn't surprise anyone. Right now we are Top 6 and got to a semi final. We are playing the best football since David Turnbull was in the side, which is 5 or 6 years ago now. The manager has less than 20 games in charge and we are a work in progress. There is areas we need to improve in but since football perfection can't be achieved by teams spending half a billion in the close season, why don't we just accept that and let the manager try to improve in those areas.14 points

Nuance & perspective are wonderful things! Clearly JBA isnt a Motherwell legend (yet), but he deserves a little more credit than he is being afforded in some quarters. The number of draws we got in the first quarter of the season were a little disappointing given how well we played at times, but they were achieved by a manager and team trying to bed in new players and a totally new system. Mistakes were made and a few wins slipped out of our grasp. Disapppointing but understable. However, we did slowly improve and after the League Cup semi final exit (reaching Hampden seems to have been turned into a negative) we seemed to have unlocked the secret to a water tight defence and results improved. Our record against the top 6 is held up as a weakness this season. Yet we are undefeated against Hearts, have drawn twice against Rangers at home, lost narrowly at Ibrox after a hotly disputed penalty claim. Beaten Celtic resoundingly at Fir Park, lost twice narrowly at Parkhead in keenly contested matches, unbeaten against Hibs home & away. Only Falkirk have got the better of us. So our poor record is actually a myth if you turn it around and ask what the top 6 teams record against Motherwell is. The Aberdeen Cup game was a sore one and Jens has to hold his hands up a little for the starting selection, but the the state of the pitch, weather and 2 red cards are at least mitigating factors. We have broken all sorts of records this season with least goals conceded at home, clean sheets records, longest home run without a defeat, attendances etc etc. Of course the wheels have come off a little bit and you could argue that the pressure of being involved in a potential title race got to us, but you have to factor in the recent injuries, suspensions and some really chronic refereeing decisions. Has Jens been perfect? No. Have the team been perfect? No. But whilst our deficiencies have been shown up in recent weeks, its still the best season I can remember for quality of football and entertainment, and we are still sitting with a GD of +25 in April. Picking holes in an otherwise fantastic season is easy to do and if you ignore the circumstances, you can make a compelling case, but just as circumstances can fall for you, they can also conspire against you, despite you having control over neither.12 points

Not game related but well done to the guys that created the banner for Dougie Imrie, you are a credit to the club. He’s a guy we’ve not had much time for and who’s not had much time for us over the years but what happened goes way beyond silly football rivalry. Well done guys 👏12 points

Wow. You just love getting the boot in. I have said it before and will again, we need to stop and remember where this team was last season and judge JBA on that. Yes we have had a dip in form but to pick apart the season with that statement above is ridiculous. I have absolutely loved this season, it’s the best football I have seen at Fir Park and long may it continue.11 points

It's just amazing how quickly some have forgotten the absolute dross we've watched under previous managers compared to this season. I'm not getting hyped I'm just happy to see the team play football the way it should be played and to great effect most weeks. Christ, we've earned it.10 points

I was in the East Neuk this morning to collect our seafood order when another driver in the car park called me over. It was none other than Stevie Kirk, who had been doing the same. We had a good natter. He's had a few health issues of late but is now back to fitness, I'm pleased to report. He still follows all things claret and amber.10 points

Just new to site. Ancient so expect many Ancell babes references and tales of horror and heroic failures particularly against Sundau's opponents. Feel we have lost a lot of zest recently and clearly see a Slattery effect in how our games are refereed. Hoping for a return to earlier control levels at the very least9 points

I was sorry to learn that John Boyle took unwell and collapsed at Fir Park this afternoon. Hopefully he's ok. Its great that he still takes an interest in us and I still have a lot of time for him. I met him on several occasions and he was always pleasant and approachable. Yes he made huge mistakes, but his heart was in the right place. Hopefully he'll be attending games again in the near future. As I say, I hope he's recovering and its nothing serious.9 points

I’ve not worded that well so I’ll try again. I do enjoy going because it’s a life long passion following Motherwell FC. I know however that I’m not always going to ‘enjoy’ the game because that’s just the way it is and always will be for a club of our stature, but I go regardless and wouldn’t miss it, even though it often has me tearing my hair out. So I’m afraid Motherwell FC are stuck with me.9 points

Spot on Stewart gets banned from Hampden for speaking his mind that upset the sensitive souls at the SFA, yet 10's of thousands of uglies fans spout their bigoted sectarian bile on a regular basis and its radio silence from the SFA., a disgrace of an organisation.8 points

So much negative nonsense on here lately if we were not in games and not competeing then have a serious cry most of our defeats have been by odd goal while being in matches and fighting for everything. This we have been found out, dont know where next win is coming from ffs picture a year ago and picture now where would you rather be regarding Motherwell if you dont understand progress or cant see progress then i dont know what to say to alot of you. Honestly reading posts back you would think we were down the bottom in the mud lol.8 points

We sold out our allocation today because we were quietly confident of a result. That's testament to how well the team has done this season. Unfortunately it didn't materialise due to multiple factors but not for lack of trying. We're brave on the ball and the quality is there for all to see. It's got it's results that sees us sitting pretty in the top six with a realistic chance of European football come the summer. Yes, we're out two cups and that's disappointing but we're still very much a work in progress. The whole fur coat no knickers narrative is simply pish.8 points

4 defeats in the league all season, the first in nearly 3 months and all of a sudden the players are full of themselves or we need X, Y and Z. Sometimes it'll just be an off day or luck won't quite be in your favour. If people can't just accept that without the character assassinations in this season of all seasons then I honestly don't know how you manage to go about your daily life.8 points

The bigger picture is Rangers and Celtic will never field poorer teams than this season and we are better than any other team in the league if we field our strongest eleven. Load management? Hectic schedule? We never played a match for weeks. The whole point of this season is we'll never have a better chance to win a trophy and we've fucked it with a very poor performance against St. Mirren and a crazy selection by the manager for this match. Obviously Askou has done great things but he's not infallible and he got this completely wrong. Trying to make out like there is some mysterious greater purpose to the season that we mere mortal don't understand is just feeble apologia.8 points

If Slattery was fully fit he would have started today. We have to remember that was his 3 rd game in a week after a return from injury. The manager has to manage those situations carefully. The game is won and lost on fine margins. The first, the referee helped to tee the corner up for Saints. The second, Just was unlucky that the ball hit off him and landed as it did. It was a great finish none the less. The 3rd could just as easily have been a great save but the ball looped into the back of the net For me the first goal set the tone and St Mirren managed the game very well from that point onwards. When I take a step back from the obvious disappointment of the evening, I would still rather be watching our brand of football than St Mirrens and I believe by seasons end we will still finish above them.8 points

I know people are upset, but if we're going to abandon everything after a poor game, then we might was well bring back Hammell or Malpas and play "proper" Scottish football. Go back and reed last season's match threads if you want to see what's in store if we go back down that path. I'd rather we keep developing and bring in a few more players that fit in January than go back to Kettle-ball.8 points

Probably wont be back on here until well after the game tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great day. Hopefully we will get the rub of the green and we are not talking about VAR or the officials after it. Fingers crossed we actually perform how we can, we have a big audience watching and would be great to let them see what we've seen most weeks. In the event we do go behind stay with the team, they have it in them to do the unexpected.8 points

I'm starting to think you've never seen youngsters integrated into new teams before. Giving them a 10 minute workout in a game with no pressure is pretty standard. Otherwise you end up with fans posting on websites calling them dug shite because they hadn't got up to speed instantly with their new team mates the first 60 minutes they played.8 points

If the ref had decided on the day that it was simulation - just like diving in the box - the result would have been a yellow. The 4-match suspension is punishment for making the ref and VAR officials look a bunch of twats, not for the offence itself.7 points

I'll add that, the attractive football on display has increased the home attendance by over 50%. This is something that I didn't think would ever happen. This alone, must be of great benefit to the club.7 points

If the team can have a collective off-day and still not lose, we're doing not too bad. I think everyone needs a wee break, not just the players. There seemed to be a collective anxiety around the place on Saturday, with the prospect of losing a third consecutive game at the end of a fortnight that kicked-off with such high hopes and expectations. Maybe a mental reset is needed before the run-in, just as much as a physical rest.7 points

There are 2 counter arguments going on here that can be true at the same time. It is clearly very difficult for a club like ours to hold onto a good manager and good players, because as many have stated, money talks. Players and managers are ambitious so they will always want to test themselves at a higher level (and be remunerated for that). However, just because the manager and our better players will move on, doesnt mean we cant still try and build on that success. If we are smart, we move the players on when it suits us, for fees that allow us to re-invest in the squad and strengthen as a club. We also trust in the process that led us to Jens and try to find someone else who fits the same mould. Obviously, there is an element if luck attached to these things, but just as there is a cost to bad decision making (as we have seen in the past) there can be a benefit to good decision making. With the Well Society now pulling the strings at the club, we have discovered our identity, and we now have a model in place, that if done correctly, can be sustainable. Being the best version of ourselves that we can be is the ambition the club needs to show, and so far its going pretty well.....7 points

Davie Cooper would have been 70 today. Tragically taken from us far too young. Still one of best players I ever saw in a well jersey7 points

I have seen lots of posts like this tonight. The game was massively effected by the red cards, we spent most of the first half trying to adjust to their 11 men and then the last 10 trying to force our way back into the game, there was no rhythm to it due to this. Then JBAs game plan is effected straight after kick off in the 2nd. If it was 11-11 all night and he played poor then fair enough, but throwing players under the bus based on what happened tonight is really unfair in my opinion.7 points

Its a disgrace that they get away with it Dave, the SFA, police Scotland the Scottish government and both of the ugly sisters are culpable yet do nothing. Last year we had people being arrested for wearing T shirts supporting palestinian organisations, the police said were proscribed terrorist groups etc. Yet every week we have thousands singing thr praises of the IRA, UDA, up to their knees in f****n blood etc and feck all gets done, the two of them are Scotlands shame.7 points

Was very close to John, he and my dad went to school together and played badminton to a very high level, I'm sure John represented lanarkshire, and as luck would have it I worked in all his shops, farms, abattoirs, homes and through all of the post '91 upgrades at Fir Park. A fine innings at 93 and a tremendous gentleman to boot. RIP Mr Chapman, without your steady leadership and deep pockets to sign Davie Cooper, we may have had no club to support and no anniversary to celebrate in May.7 points

I watched Welsh, who was on the park at the end of the game. He shook the hands with every Celtic player as they trudged off, a few hugs as well. As soon as they were gone he turned to us in the main stand and fist pumped. He looked every bit as happy as me. His face definitely screamed “get it up them” I don’t see him going back there7 points

Chill out folks. Yes it was a bad day at the office, but we are essentially three months into the season, we have totally transformed our style of play and overall it’s been fantastic so far to watch. We got outfoxed yesterday by a very organised system, it happens. Also I think had we not lost that third goal then an equaliser could have maybe came, but St Mirren easily deserved their victory yesterday. I think the manager has recruited very well and when we get into January then he will have a much clearer understanding of what he might need to bring in during the window. To essentially write this whole project off due to one game seems mental to me, don’t understand what some of our fans want sometimes.7 points

I put this lady on block a year ago because I was fed up with the constant victimhood when things don't go her way. She chips away at people opinions like picking a sore and if the discussion gets to the stage where someone is giving as good as they get, and she has no answer, the tears and snotters and victim card are played with relentless monotony. So far easier for me to put on block , she could do likewise to people she doesn't like or agree with or as has been suggested, if abusive, report. But no we get the full on drama and flouncing away , no doubt to return in a couple of weeks . I would also respectfully suggest if you cannot handle other people opinions and some rather robust opinions a football fan forum is not the place to be. Anyone may call me anything they like , I might not like it , I might not agree with it but I'll forever defend your right to say it.7 points

This post unfairly singles me out. Since our last proper interaction on 30 March 2024, when you sent unsolicited private messages that I ignored, I haven’t engaged with you in any meaningful way. Referencing me here now is misleading and inaccurate. It’s also concerning that you keep dragging me into posts without reason. Frankly, I'm pissed off that your nonsense post has forced me to directly engage with you again. For the record, on 30 March 2024, here and here, we had a bit of a public back-and-forth, after which you sent two private messages. I ignored them and have deliberately avoided debating you since. Your forum behaviour follows a clear pattern. Personal experiences and private matters are brought into football discussions as a defence whenever someone disagrees with you and then the unsolicited private messages start. Stop involving me or making false accusations in future posts.7 points

Just home from pub and buzzing after that performance. I will break down my assessment 1) we have moaned about style for years, we have a new manager trying new style which isn’t good for health but give him time. Brave and 2nd half we were great. 2) Stama - i am still backing him , there is a player there in my opinion 3) goal conceded, mcginn howler but we move on. 4) fullbacks, both excellent and going to be huge players. 5) centre defence - we need at least 2 in. 6) midfield- the triplets were great , slattery set pieces though were brutal. 7) it's miles better than hoofball so let's enjoy the JB revolution COYW6 points
