I agree with what you say. I remember feeling slightly sorry for Lennon Miler at the time because it did seem like a big move for such a young guy. Italy can be just as dark, just as wet, just as cold in the winter months and for a young guy to have the motivation to do it speaks highly of him. All the more reason that it is a real shame that his commitment has not been rewarding by a Scotland call up. In nobody"s world is a regular Serie A midfield player an inferior option to a Manchester Utd reserve with little to no first team experience yet here we are. If as Weeyin suggests Clarke has picked Fletcher to make some sort of point then he should be nowhere near the Scotland managers job because he is effectively putting his own interests in front of the national interest. I suspect that Lennon's comments about wanting to be the best Scotland player will not have helped. In some cultures that type of ambition would be celebrated but I am certain those comments will not have gone down well with the ever frowning Mr Clarke. In answer to your question I played professional table tennis (recently retired) I had family in Rome so moved here as at that time was easier to get around continental Europe and to travel to SE Asia than being based in Scotland. All of your points are very valid. Udine is a beautiful city but can be very cold and wet in the Winter. Very different than being in Bologna for example. Next year is a big season for him - probably a make or break season in terms of pushing on at Udinese.

fizoxy
Think the best he got was some bench appearances. Think we still had Max Johnstone at that point.

If they'd actually sold Welsh, they might have had some money to spend. I'm still baffled by that one.

The story was they agreed to cancel his contract as a favour because he had helped Celtic win the league. Could be absolute journo nonsense of course, but makes marginally more sense than the tightest team in the league letting him go for free. Stuwell2
More likely they’re happy to get 500k off their wage bill
mio
I think that’s definitely journo nonsense. If there is a chance for Celtic to make money they’d do it. i think it was more that he had 2yrs to run on a contract and getting £10k a week. The likelihood any bids coming in would be from Scottish teams and he wanted to leave Scotland. Celtic probably weighed up how much it’d cost them to pay him and farm him out on loan and the fact their fans think he’s rubbish anyway that they decided to cut him free.
