Orinoco Posted yesterday at 10:19 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 10:19 AM Alot of chat about resting players for this game. Last season the chat was how it appeared we did not take cup games seriously by playing weakened teams. We cant afford to take Stenny lightly they appear to have started their season well. Play our strongest team, win the game early if possible and then withdraw players for rest. Every game we play brings more understandings and relationships between players, which improves the team structure and unity. Something that improves our chances against an up comming top side.

Absolutey. Domestic cups and league are our priority. The Euro run is a bonus.
weeyin Posted yesterday at 03:54 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:54 PM I agree about starting a strong 11, but I don't think putting someone like Whyte in the lineup will weaken us. I'm guessing Hodge will also be making an appearance at some stage too.

Agree that there are benefits to get from playing more games but AJ mentioned in one of his interviews about the drawback of not being able to train and practice the tactics physically. So when you look at how we are playing now, without being able to practice, with our injury list and hopefully with couple new players to be added, we are going to be in for another enjoyable season I think
Kmcalpin
I'd certainly be starting the likes of Connelly, Wilson, Knight Lebel, Whyte and Vogt for this one.
Motherwell Daft
Im all for giving some game time to Whyte, Wells, and a few more young outfield players via some sub minutes but truly Connolly gives me the fear, not a fan, we need to progress here so Id play Poulson all day long. if we stick to our principles of possession control we should win and progress but please no Connolly!

I take your general point but doubt if Wells will feature as he now plays for Linfield. Maybe a bit of game time for Zander McAllister from the bench? Matty Connelly? I must admit I like to see a bit of height between the sticks.

Happyhonest
I take it this will be the same message in house too. Am liking the subtle psychology of it all. Cups are hard remember last year. Also saying he is content with the squad but expects. One or two more. Great messaging to players bringing them together. looking forward to seeing Hodge. Hope one or two are back. Think he said that Thor was back in training though working himself
Stuwell2
I’d definitely like to see some of the youngsters get some game time at least. Did Connelly not play in some of the early cup games last season? Maybe it was the Scottish cup and it’s better to keep our no.1 in while the team settles but in AJ we trust so whatever he thinks is good for me.

I have no issues with Connolly playing, he has played a number of times and done well. He had one mis kick at Pittodrie but otherwise his games have been good, a clean sheet in the last game of last season.

grizzlyg
I would start Wilson, connelly, JKL, Booth, Whyte tomorrow. Give Vogt a start plus Sparrow if fit. Domestic cups are very important but Thursday for me is massive. If things tomorrow not going well after 60 mins then bring the big guns on

Every game is massive, strongest 11 at all times, in their faces ftom the off, press high and move the ball quickly, get the game done by half time. Stuwell2
Don’t agree that Connelly’s not confident playing out from the back, from what I recall apart from a couple of time where he nearly got caught - same as any player - he looked ok and managed well with our style of play. JBA was happy enough with him to let Ox go out on loan which, in my opinion, says something about the lads ability.

Good job Stama not fit and I suggested he starts..🤣🤣🤣
weeyin
Connelly became our number two specifically because he is comfortable playing out from the back. Ox was not. I think people still blame him for the Aberdeen cup loss, but Ward gave away a couple of goals too while generally solid.

ropy
Aye, Connolly is in the squad because of his qualities in playing out from the back.
MJC
Our strongest available starting 11 should play tomorrow. No excuses. We have been stung too many times in Cup ties when we’ve rotated and rested players. Tomorrow is a must win game, anything less is unacceptable. If the favourites win every cup tie we might as well just give Celtic the trophy now and the rest of us can focus on the league.
