A problem entirely of their own making, i assume its not the Celtic fans allegedly harrassing Beaton, which is totally unacceprable under any circumstances.

So why does Beaton keep getting Celtic games given the  issues involving him.

The statement condems everyone else but fails to mention any intention to resolve the main issue, ie incompetent match and Var officials continuously getting decisions wrong.

I get what you’re saying but regardless of how bad decisions are in a game there is no justification whatsoever for that to lead to the man’s home and family having to live in fear of some thug harming them or damaging their home.

i do agree 100% our officiating/VAR needs help to drastically improve. Having said that though, how fkn difficult is it to understand and implement “only get involved for clear and obvious error”

no wild cries for handball pk from the Celtic fans or the Celtic players. It’s not 100% certain it is handball. Why the fk did VAR poke their nose in? I blame them more than Beaton.  they put him in an impossible Position such that whatever call he goes with, he’s going to get crucified

Not that I feel in any way sorry for Beaton but my target in all this is Dallas. No one other than this clown saw anything and it was him in Beatons ear that made him go to the monitor. I heard it mentioned by someone on the radio that he’s put Beaton in an impossible position. I can only imagine things would be 100 times worse for him if he went to the monitor and knocked it back.

regardless of all this, and regardless of his thinking, Beaton should have been strong enough to say it wasn’t…. Or take longer than the 15secs he took to check properly

I agree about VAR officials being the main culprits

From a purely human psychology perspective, it was easier for Beaton to award the pen knowing Hearts could still win the title at the weekend vs. knocking it back and effectively handing to to Hearts.

I watched the Arsenal game live that everyone was comparing this one to. The late VAR decision was critical for both teams. Arsenal, because it would have a direct impact on their title challenge. West Ham, because it would have a direct impact on their relegation battle.

The VAR officials reviewed it in great detail before asking the ref to watch. Then they had him review it in great detail. Then after he made the decision - which looked to be correct under the current laws - the reasoning was made known to the fans.

I still want VAR punted, but at least they followed a sensible process in that game.

VAR is to blame, not the officials. They are given basic tools to their jobs and then have to make a call on decisions from poor angles and poor cameras.

It should never have been introduced into our game until we had the infrastructure. But here we are.

Imagine the fallout if Rangers were in Hearts position on Wednesday.

I also agree with their statement on the hysteria around this. The statement we put out today was poor regarding our game being a joke. That is very harsh, considering the EPL announced today that 29 mistakes have been made by VAR down there this season and they have about 100 cameras per game and a far more advanced system than us.

No conspiracies, no dodgy refs, this is essentially down to a poor VAR system that doesn’t work.

Nobody should have to suffer abuse in any  way shape or form however this is all on the cloak and dagger  SFA thats ment to be running a professional league but doing it so so amateurly its embarassing.

Maybe they should make the Referee and Var teams available after a game to speak about certain decsions so we can all hear why it was made.

its time the SFA put hands in pocket and refs went full time?

Something needs to be done cause week after week we are seeing so much similar events happen on the pitch where one is a Red card and one isnt there is no level playing field its all over the place.

This wont end cause what ever the outcome on Saturday its going to make Wednesday night seem timid.

England has far superior technology in use for VAR, professional referees that use it well and very rarely make a mistake, decisions are explained by the refs to the crowd as they happen. Compare this with the incompetent amateurs who take no reasponsibility or accountabillity, explain nothing running the poundshop Var in Scotland and its no wonder its a shitshow.

Agree with previous posts. No matter how angry we were with the decision at end of day Beaton is a human being with a family and should never be put in a frightening situation.

I hope Hearts get the result they need tomorrow as hopefully we can thrn just move on.   The penalty didn't change our situation ahead of tomorrow's game but it denied us a point and great chance to scupper sellik title hopes

On one level the SFA statement is quite breathtaking yet on another utterly predictable. Mr Beaton and his family  in the past seem to have been targeted by Celtic fans because he gave decisions Brendan Rodgers didn't like, and nothing seems to have been said or done about it by the "authorities", which is really poor.

Now there seem to be  claims that Beaton has been subject to harassment and threats from others (obviously not Celtic fans) since the Motherwell game  and  the SFA suddenly  clutch their pearls and throw a hysterical strop to throw up a smokescreen and set hares running to deflect from the  obvious  wrongs of Wednesday night.

Any personal threats to officials, players and managers is to be utterly  deplored but I find the "Nelson eye" apparently deployed previously to Celtic fans utterly hypocritical and quite sinister.

I expect the churnalists and presstitutes among Scottish sport journalists  to run with the SFA response to ensure they  stay on message and maintain their "contacts".

As an  old Scotsman once said, "Oh, what a dangled web we weave/ when first we practise to deceive."

The SFA seems to be intent on bringing all of  Scottish football down with them into the gutter.

'Mon The Jambos!

They still make plenty of mistakes, but they do at least follow a consistent process.

English football, or at least the EPL has taken a strange turn. They implemented a more reasonable implementation of the handball rule this season, and also try to avoid awarding pens when strikers look for contact with a defender. Both good ideas.

Where they have massively failed is in their handling of all the shirt pulling, blocking, shoving and wrestling that happens on every corner kick. Not just the trivial cases, but even when players are being hauled to the ground, they are often happy to ignore it.

I read they are going to try and resolve that for next season, but it was totally out of hand this season.

There is nothing new in this sadly. I have said on here a few times before that my family were good friends with a prominent referee back in the 1980's and they had to be moved out of their house for a week after a controversial decision in a Celtic v Dundee Utd game. Needless to say it was not the Dundee Utd fans that targeted the family. That was long before the days of VAR.

It was a very scary situation for them at the time. As I have also said before this particular referee was a Motherwell fan and I remember him saying that when he looked back on his career he felt that he refereed Motherwell more strictly than other teams almost like a unconscious overcompensation so that he could never be accused of favouritism.

Did they get Kettlewell to write that statement. Deflect the issue away from the real one. Make it harassment instead.  After years of of mistakes AND bias he should be sacked. Yes I am still angry and we all knew from history with this guy something shady would likely happen.

I am really disappointed in the Well Society didn't release anything at all about this to get the ball rolling its a bit too late now very very poor if you ask me ment to be to voice of the club but nothing not a peep.

I'm not disappointed that nothing was released, it would only have come across as a reaction to the decision that night. What I'd rather they do is garner support from throughout the league and then have a group of clubs approach the governing body about the generally abysmal state of refereeing and get them to commit to change.

A single statement will do nothing, there needs to be a coordinated campaign by the vast majority of clubs to apply sufficient pressure to force  change for the better.
