Similar in style, but nowhere near as cohesive at this point. Struggling to really impact in the final third. It will improve though. It should be another interesting season. Stuwell2
Delighted with that result, a tight game but we got the job done although some of our slack play was frightening leading to the penalty.
mio
I think ive now watched that 2nd goal about 20 times, what an absolute classic. Even the celebration of him running to the bench with the Well fans in the background…. Epic!! Fast becoming one of my favourite Well players of the past 30 years…. Love the wee loonball!! I did not expect that at all today, would have been delighted with a point. absolutely brilliant… delighted for the fans, players and manager… on to Helsinki
joewarkfanclub
Bit of a mixed bag today. Lots of good stuff, but lots.of mistakes as well, which is to be expected bedding in so many new players. Thought we were comfortable first half, without being exceptional, but produced the only piece of real quality of the half to win the penalty. Second half Hibs pressed much higher and forced us into a lot more mistakes, which is a slight concern and an area we will need to improve. Williams really sells Oscar for the penalty, not much Oscar can do but take the yellow. We did have to dig deep after that, but was quite a pleasing aspect to see that we have that capability if required. The second goal is a thing of beauty. Potentially team goal of the season already. So pleased for Said. He has such an infectious personality that makes you just desperate for him to do well. Overall, a fantastic 3 points and just the result needed to keep confidence high going into a huge game on Thursday. Everyone to Helsinki! 🧡❤️🧡
AllyMax
To me, the issue we had today was connected to the loss of Just and Slattery. The back four plus Oscar and Faddy had the ball a lot. We were very good at getting the ball forward from there. Today we weren't lot of the time which led to the continual turning back into a tighter and tighter area. We need more (and more intelligent) movement from the forward midfielders to play through the way we did before. Still a fantastic result and absolutely worth the period of worry for that second goal 🤣
FirParkCornerExile
Still a bit in disbelief how we won that. The minute Hibs scored we lost our way. Hibs had the freedom of the wings and we won very few second balls. That said we employ defenders and a goalkeeper to keep the opposition out and they did just that. Outstanding backs to the wall defensive display. A good team wins ugly and that's what we did and to do so with 8 debuts in the SPFL at a difficult venue is an outstanding start to the season. Terrific away support again today. Good to see Simon Ramsden in amongst the fans enjoying the win.
mfc
You never know what to expect from the opening game at the best of times but giving the changes were have had to endure, that really is a great 3 points.all the signings seen to be settling in nicely with moorman in particular looking like he could be a real find.i still think we need to sign a midfielder and a striker that will be brought in as first choice picks, which is easier said than done but with the money thats been brought in should hopefully give us a fighting chance to make that happen and get one or two back from injury and theres no reason why we can't keep the feel good factor going this season. joewarkfanclub
I think what Ive noticed so far is that there are less options available to the player on the ball this season. Last year our movement ahead of the ball was fantastic and there were always 3 or 4 options on for a pass, which made it really difficult for teams to press us. This season the movement is less with maybe 1 or 2 options. First half Hibs sat off us a little so that was fine. But second half when they pressed high, it put us under so much extra pressure. Whether it just unfamiliarity at present due to squad turnover or, we just need to run harder as a team, Im not sure, but either way, it will need to improve. Especially against the better teams. wellsince75
Add to that there’s a few guys match fit. No JK and guys like JT and Longelo trying to get up to speed . Watt, just and Slattery all have options previously and will more creative players to come in and give options - hopefully Lowry is one of them
grizzlyg
I think we all need to remember we have lost 5 first team starters and an immense manager and 7 out injured. We have brought replacements in and a manager who i am really warming to and could be a great appointment. It takes time for new players to gel so to win both euro ties and win at easter road is immense
weeyin
I've read a few reports talking about our two "goal line clearances". Which is certainly true, but makes it a sound a lot more dramatic than it looked when I was watching it. Thought they were both pretty comfortable. Big Stall
Brilliant to get the result & while some of it wasnt sparkling, there was plenty good in there including the goal to get excited about. I dont think we are that far away to be honest. Invest some of our war chest in a striker, play tawanda and longello either side & said in the 10 slot. Easier said than done of course & we may lose some of them before the window closes. That would seem to me to be a pretty formidable front line. Kmcalpin
An important win although a tight one. AJ has done a sterling job so far, in difficult circumstances, with mass injuries and players departing for pastures new. Performance wise, a mixed bag with some dodgy defending and powder puff attack. The players dug in though and showed character (Big Jock would have been proud). Still we won at a difficult venue and competed well with Hibs. Our winning goal was a team effort and a thing of beauty. More of that please. On the plus side, more minutes in legs and the new lads got more gametime together under AJ. Our performance was a bit clunky but that should improve as the new players bed in and gel. We do need to add a bit of experience in the midfield and firepower up front. I'm confident JA and ND will bring in a couple of new faces to bolster our options. .
